    I made a music video of the song Longer and sent it to Dan, it was made in Honolulu, I used to work at TV Station as a Technical Director I have since retired from TV Production. I saw him once in concert in Honolulu, can't recall what year it was. I also made a Wedding video with his songs , Longer was my Wedding Song it was done in 1989. Looking for a Lady was perhaps the song that got me hooked on Dan Fogelberg, still have his albums, I am now 65 soon to be 66 in Nov. 2020, but I have a terminal illness, as I approach my time up, I listen to his songs and remember the good old days, great video thank you.

    Great songs, great singers, great players. No theatrics or production needed. Fool's Gold harmonies spot on, steel player smokin' yet tasty, bass player perfect, and the drummer PLAYED THE SONGS without dominating. This is how a live band does it, kids. And this is what well written songs sound like. Real deal.

      I agree....I commented that the "live" version sound really close to the studio version. Proof he was that talented and a great singer/ musician

    Dan fogelberg and fool's gold was my very first concert I was 11 years old it was 1974 his album captured angel just came out wow I'm 54 now and still remember it well fool's gold opened up played some songs then Dan came out Sat in a chair with a acoustic guitar and it was like heaven in a voice he lit up a joint took a couple puffs and someone yelled PICK ALL NIGHT! He cracked up thru the joint down and did just that played all night I've never forgotten my first they don't have music like this anymore this recording made me so emotional I cried long live the 70's

    I have always loved Dan. I bought several albums back in the seventies. Never got the chance to see him live. It was his beautiful voice that drew me in, I never realized what an accomplished guitarist he was. Wow.

    • @edgrigsby8610
      @edgrigsby8610 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      He was equally accomplished in the piano. Most artists, I can figure their score note for note.....but Dan's piano pieces are so unique and intricate, I can't duplicate his. I've tried several, like same old Lang syne....I gave up! LoL.

    • @seanbuckley1553
      @seanbuckley1553 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      An underrated guitar player. The solo on These Days alone is a great illustration of that as well as the acoustic stuff. And yes his piano playing, which was like influenced by his mom and dad who were musicians, is stellar.

    Beautiful music. retrospectively rather dark content-wise. I was right there mid-seventies, heart-crushed by divorce and betrayal so a perfect soundtrack then. Glad now is not then but musically Dan has to still be counted among the best. Hopefully he knew the Lord so we can celebrate musically in heaven.

    I guess, I was about 13 yrs.old when my sister bought his album "Netherlands"; the cover was blue & had a silhouette picture of his face on it...Anyway, that was my introduction to this Amazing ~ One of a Kind ~ Musical Heartthrob! And boy, was that quite an Impression!!! I knew he and I would meet one day, & I would be sooo good to him :- ) (lol) that I'd knock his socks-off!!! And He Would Marry Me!!! And I'd knock his socks-off again & again and we'd be so happy!!! Funny, I still have that dream today! Our world was a better place with him gracing us with his gifts! I know he was too good of a man to live here in this crazy, mixed-up place, but I know he made my life better; and his bright example & legacy will "Forever LIVE".... "He is ALIVE" ~ Especially when we listen to his music & share his stories. When we do these things, he graces us over & over again! Even-though, I wish I got to know him, I still feel in a way that I had; maybe because he so freely shared his life through the stories he tells in his songs! Thank you, Dan, for sharing so much & giving so much. He was "Love", so in a ways......
    ~ peace

      That is exactly how I feel about Cory Wells of Three Dog Night! At age 13, I just KNEW he would wait for me and we would be married one day. No way to look things up about people back then like it is now, on a computer, so it was many years later that I was heartbroken to find out he was married already and had two daughters and he was married 50 years when he passed away 4 yrs ago! But, no one can ever take away my lifelong memories of Cory. I've already told my daughter that, when they put me in that coffin, I want my Three Dog Night albums (I have all of them) and Cory's solo albums buried with me at my feet, I want no one to have them. That is how strongly he influenced my entire life.

    Was at this concert with my ex-wife and some friends. Remember it so well. When Dan introduced "Next Time", and dedicated it to the Minnesota Vikngs, they had just lost the Super Bowl to my Pittsburgh Steelers. I also remember much of the crowd holding up lit lighters as he sang "Let it Shine". It sent chills up and down my spine as I watched this video. Dan's higher power had a better plan for him. I'm sure he is the "Leader of the Band" wherever he is. Thanks so much for the memories Dan.

    Dan and Tim Weisberg did the "Twin Sons... " tour in 1977 and played at Dane County Coliseum in Madison in Dec.
    They closed half the arena off and did the concert " in the round".
    Weisberg came out and did a handful of songs.
    Then after 5 minutes of dark silence, the opening notes of "Netherlands" began.
    One of the most surreal concert intros ever.

    Love and Miss Dan! Souvenirs was the one that got me hooked, but they did play a track off of his first album which I eventually bought, Anyway I Love you. I often wondered about his love of classical music and influence, so wasn't surprised that he was trained in that. He was in Paris when he was in his first band. Netherlands was also very classically influenced. He explained that his one song, off Innocent Age, Another Old Ang Syne was the melody of the 1812 Overture. Crafty! Gone too soon, but what an impact!

    Nola west: he not only made your life better, he made this world better. As a lyricist and musician his words were beautiful. Sometimes sad, but we could all relate to them, and is voice was fantastic. His lyrics were so meaningful. I miss him greatly but don't ever realize how much until I hear one of his songs again. His song "Looking for a lady" inspired me to play acoustic guitar and I learned much more of his,music after that. In college playing his music got me in the door of many a young college girl's dorm room😁😅. God bless him and may his music live forever. He died way too young. RIP Dan Fogelberg. Still missing him these many years later and his music never will lose the quality it is. God bless his wife Jean also. Must have been a great treat to be serenaded by such an amazing musician.

    I just came across something I think all Dan Fogelberg fans might be interested in which is an announcement about a Broadway Show featuring his music. It is called: "Part of the Plan"; and will be premiering in Nashville at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center starting on Sept. 9th, 2017 for it's first run.Here is the link I spotted: www.broadwayworld.com/nashville/article/Photo-Coverage-Dan-Fogelberg-Musical-PART-OF-THE-PLAN-Preps-for-Nashville-Opening-98-20170901I had the special privilege of touring with him from 1975-1977; and actually played in this particular concert which I think captures him extremely well. He was an absolutely unique talent in every way; and I am so glad to see this renewed interest in his work for in my humble opinion it is so long over due.Adios my old friend; sail on!

    I first heard Dan Fogelberg on PLR in Connecticut about a year before this concert in 1975 while stationed at the sub base in New London. I think he had 3 albums out at this time, and I bought them all. I saw him live 3 times. He was uniquely talented. He left us way too early... and oddly 10 years to the day after we lost another tremendous talent... Nicolette Larson.

    Fool's Gold put out at least two albums which are great. They did several songs that Dan did as well on his solo albums...Ed

      I know I have one Fool's Gold album on vinyl. I have to see if I have any others I might have forgotten. I got the album, not knowing they were Fogelberg's backup musicians. I need to dig the album up and play it 50 times.

    I dont know who these musicians are, but here are the band member names from another TH-cam, user Gene Tourangeau.
    DAN FOGELBERG
    Piano, acoustic & electric guitars, vocals
    FOOL'S GOLD
    Ron Grinel, drums; Tom Kelly, bass and vocals; Denny Henson, piano, acoustic guitar and vocals and Doug Livingston, pedal steel (I've been informed by Dave Pearlman, that he played pedal steel and Richard Bowden played guitar- I don't remember where I saw the credits but I have no way of verifying this so I will list all for the listener to sort out)
    Note that Big Bad John was sung by guest Richard Bowden.

    I saw this very talented musician in New Orleans.He performed solo.No band.He was not feeling well and put on a hell of a show.I wonder what it would have sounded like had he been well.

    Hoo. Love "Big Bad John", what a neat surprise that this colleague of DF's wrote it. Had always thought it was an older song, maybe late '50s. (I can see where the words were changed...and why!)

    Saw him at the FOX in Atlanta. Although the music from later in his career (after Netherlands) lost most of its appeal for me, he shaped my musical career & performances.

    Pedal steel player (Doug Livingston I think) rules and carries the whole show.
