What I like about Chuck is that he is so enthusiastic. You watch some of these other guys and they will put you to sleep. Chuck makes you want to go to work!
Yes he does. Unfortunately I am still waiting on my supplies to get in. So, I end up thinking of other stuff I want to try and I can't stop buying more stuff to get into leather working lol.
Well, I’ve watched this video three times and I finally came away with one thought. In order to make a pattern, you just have to jump in and do it. One of two things will happen. Either it will come out good or bad. Chuck mentioned the word we all need, confidence. Where do you get that stuff, confidence? By just doing it. If it comes out good, well you got confidence! If it comes out bad, well you through it out and start over again. Good luck everyone!
Chuck, I really appreciate the tips you give us in this video. I tend to over complicate, so the easy to understand guidance here are very much welcomed. Thank you for making this video and for all you do to keep this craft alive and fun!
I try to be as eco friendly as possible, so I use Strathmore watercolor 300lb weight paper for patterns instead of plastic. I've found graph paper is very helpful for making small patterns from scratch.
Prototyping is an easy way to avoid so many frustrating mistakes...been there, done that, with many different materials. Thanks for the informative demo!
Thanks Chuck. This helps me a lot. I usually end up making things just a tad too small after assembly. This video will help to figure out what I am doing wrong. Now maybe the next project will be like I imagine it to be.
Amazing Chuck! It’s really a great way of coming up with our own designs. Close? Yeah maybe but then especially in fashion nothing is really new. and putting your own spin on things makes it so much more personal.
Very good video on making patterns Chuck. Do you think you can address lining that same bag only adding a divider in the middle from gusset to gusset? And maybe adding an inside pocket on each side? Thank You Kindly Chuck!
Hey Chuck, you've mentioned that you put non-slip tape on your straight edge rulers. Is it a special kind? The kind I'm thinking of I'm worried it'd scratch up leather.
Hi Dan, It's the kind that is more spongey, not rough. We'll link the one we use here: www.weaverleathersupply.com/catalog/item-detail/77-7325/non-slip-tape-1-x-4/pr_54884
Thank you for your advise. I am starting to get into leather work. I will be making my own patterns. this is something that I wanted to get into. Now that I am retired , I will be watching your videos. Do you have a store outlet in Canada.
We will link them here for you, Chuck uses the 12" x 24" and just uses however many he needs to cover the work area. www.weaverleathersupply.com/products/silent-poundo-board?variant=40906075373708

I recently found your channel and have been watching a bunch of your masterwork . I have a question; is it better to glue first, then tool; or should I tool first and then glue? Edit: I apologize my question has nothing to do with the video in which I am commenting 😅
Hi David, See if this series helps - Chuck goes over making a journal cover from start to finish. th-cam.com/play/PLzvwlO3D_z7cG72Z0db3uqFJdGsrLK-Fu.html
Useful articles cannot be copywritten in the US. Only the decorative elements incorporated into the design of the useful articles that can be identified separately from, and are capable of existing independently from the article can be copywritten. So you can't copy something like a carving, but you can take pretty much anything else. This was determined by the Supreme Court in 2017

Thank you so much, youve managed to settle some fears for me that were halting me from making patterns.

@@WeaverLeatherSupply awesome. Thank you.
Thank you!
I'm a beginner at this and I was wondering what is a great first project to do a wallet or something bigger like a bag
Hi Curtis,
Something like a card wallet is pretty simple and not a whole lot of hand stitching for your first project.
Chuck, I am a novice at this and I would like to know the best way to choose the weight of leather for a project?

what do you do with your left over dye after you dip dye?
Hi Verna,
You can pour it back into the bottle using a funnel.
