I had the Tandy strap cutter always getting loose on me. Not my idea but I glued a piece of sandpaper to the big round part of the screw clamp thing and put a dap of blue locktite on the threads. massive improvement! Your mini looks awesome, but advice for those who are having similar experiences with their strap cutter. A magnet in the sewing machine is great for the snips if you find yourself misplacing them as often as I do lol.
Another great list 🤓 I was love the sewing machine 😁 The slicker is amazing too. Thank you for mentioning using what you can afford at the end. I've been making incredible pieces with very cheap tools. Now I can start to think about upgrading. Big hugs from Nova Scotia 🐿️
You can use also use the sewing machine to pre stitch instead of pricking it…that can save a lot of time. I do this making belts. Slow and steady with hand support on the wheel is still faster then pricking it. Especially if the seam is just seen on one side.
An articulating desk lamp with a built-in magnifier is my favourite tool. I use it on every project, just clamp it onto my kitchen counter and my “shop” is up and running. About $80 CAD at Lee valley tools
It really depends on the style of leather work. I do not stamp, and I like finished edges. I have French edge beveler edge skiver French stitching chisels in different hole sizes (3.0, 3.38, 3.83) Dremel with burner and sander adapter Prefer vinymo threads in different sizes but i also have regular waxed threads in 4 sizes usb rechargeable thread burner from Amazon that looks like a long slim lighter. And my favorite tool is my portable stitching pony that clamps and swivels. I bought the small one and its about 6"-8" tall when folded. It comes in 3 sizes. Mine fits in a small handbag. Expensive but worth it. Nice grip plus magnet in the wood holds a needle during stitching. A guy in Russia makes them and a guy in S. Korea makes them. You can find a lot of variations on the market. I bought the one from S. Korea by "Dream Factory" in 2018 and paid $100.00 with shipping. You might be able to find it cheaper. Buckle guy sells a similar model but it is bigger than the one I have. I have too many tools. I plan to gather all of them and sell most of them. I didn't know much about leather work and bought what was suggested. Plus, some of the tools came in kits, and some came from classes i participated in.
I am starting in leatherwork, i got a few tools about a month ago and have already gotten to the point where people have asked me to buy one. How can I start making money with this? thanks.
The mini strap cutter looks a lot like a better quality version of the wooden Stripease that Tandy used to sell 50 years ago but unfortunately discontinued.
This reminded me to go get your brass knife.. Been using my Exacto for two years and I really gotta upgrade. Buckleguy really puts out quality tools and hardware. Thank you for the video as always! Got me into the craft and always get to learn from videos.
Eric doesn't do a whole lot of tooling, so I'm not sure he'd be into that--I actually don't think I've ever seen a tooling video from him. But if tooling is a part of your shop process, it looks neat! (I have Questions about the shading cartridge and suspect you can get more detail with a pear shader / thumbprint tool and a maul, but I also haven't laid my hands on one, so my skepticism could be wildly misplaced)
Mr. Corter thank you for these amazing videos but please also fulfill the orders you take on website, i placed in order in Oct but till now no response or update, if you can't fulfil, please refund my money. Also its really frustrating to see you are fully active on TH-cam and insta but then completely ignore my messages on these platforms. PLEASE REFUND MY MONEY!
Hey there! If you want two shoot over a message on insta I'm happy to help get your order to you, I can't tell what your order is by the user name. thanks!

Two things that I've purchased from Buckleguy that you showed on a video were the small strap cutter and the hand press. Thanks for showing them.

What would you buy now if you are getting started, knowing what you already know.

It is just a rebranded craft plus strip ease, you can still get a strip ease online for cheaper than the buckleguy one. Nothing new

1:43 then make sure you have a spare! Else you’ll be out of sorts if it breaks/gets misplaced. 😂
Have you thought about the leather tattoo machine that Weaver sells?
