- We are making a dessert that is perfect for your holiday dessert tray. We are baking PECAN PIE TARTLETS DESSERT., also called pecan tassies. These mini pecan pies are bite-sized and are made without corn syrup. Each tart has a sweet and chewy pecan filling with a buttery pastry crust. These pecan pie tarts are one of my all-time favorite Southern Christmas dessert treats.

PECAN PIE TARTLESTS DESSERT
for the crust
olive oil, to coat pecans with
pecan halves (6-ounces)
nonstick baker's spray
1/3 cup packed brown sugar
1 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
2 2/3 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp salt
for the filling
1/2 cup sugar (or substitute)
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
3 eggs, at room temperature
1/4 cup maple syrup
2 Tbsp unsalted butter, melted
2 Tbsp rum (or bourbon), optional
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 tsp salt
pecan halves, to top tartlets with
kosher salt, to taste
1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Lightly coat pecans with olive oil. Toast in preheated oven until fragrant, 8 - 10 minutes. Allow pecans to cool. Coarsely chop and set aside. Coat mini muffin pan with nonstick baker's spray.
2. Make crust. Cream butter and brown sugar with a stand mixer. Add flour and salt. Mix until crumbled. Place a little over 1 Tbsp dough into a prepared muffin pan. Shape up the sides. Bake 10 - 12 minutes, or until set and golden around the edges. Remove from the oven and pat bottoms down with your fingers or with the bottom side of a spoon.
3. Make filling. In a large bowl whisk sugar, brown sugar, eggs, syrup, butter, rum (or bourbon), vanilla and salt. Pour in chopped pecans. Fully combine.
4. Pour 1 Tbsp filling into each shell. Top each tartlet with a pecan half. Bake 15 - 20 minutes, until filling is set and crust is slightly browned. Cool on countertop 15 minutes. To remove, run a knife around each tartlet and carefully lift out. Sit on a wire rack and sprinkle with kosher salt.
NOTES
1. Make large PECAN PIE TARTLETS using a standard sized muffin pan. Follow the same recipe. However, fill the muffin pan's wells with enough dough to shape the sides and fill the bottom. Bake dough 12 - 15 minutes. Add 1/4 cup filling to each shell. Place 2 pecans halves on each tartlet. Bake tartlets 20 - 25 minutes, or until filling is set and crust is slightly browned.
If you are looking for a great dessert with a nutty flavor, make these pecan pie tarts. Pressing the dough into the wells of your muffin pan will take a little elbow grease. However, once you eat one tartlet you will realize the effort was worth it. These are great for parties, potlucks, an after-dinner dessert or you can give them away as a perfect holiday gift.
