And thank you for this. Always amazing to grasp the technology available to an average Ham user. Communications from one location to another via a satellite in orbit. Wild..... I've worked some of the FM birds, but you have peeked my interest in the Linear side of things. Dan KL1JP (Alaska)
Another great video! Thank you for teaching all of us how to do this. Working satellites is definitely an art and you have it. I’d like to use this video as part of a satellite series of videos and I’ll be sure to Credit DX Engineering as well as you in the video. They’ll be a description to the deck since hearing TH-cam channel in the description for people to watch more content. Thank you so much for explaining in layman‘s terms how to work satellites. Thank you so much for your videos Sean. I'm brazilian ham (Eduardo PY2QZ) and I have some questions: 1- Is there any software that shows which satellites cover Brazil? 2- Could you use more modern radios that already run cross link and full duplex? 3- What is your opinion about Eggbatter antennas for base operations? Finally, I would like you to say something about Ham Radio Deluxe as it seems that it controls the compensation of the Doppler effect by the software itself. Again, I really appreciate your time and willingness to teach us. 73
Very cool example of sat work. I've only ever done FM on a dual band ICOM mobile rig and mobile antenna on my Jeep. What do you enjoy more, people staring at you and calling you in to homeland security, or working sats from home? ;)
Really superb Sean. I am about to ‘step up’ to linear sats. I note you use vox. Do you find much problem setting up levels so as to avoid wind-induced key-up of the TX. Tnx Nick M1DDD
Hello. I have a question. Regarding the call by Satellites you can say CQ Satellite and then our call sign. I ask you why they say you don't have to say CQ when you try to make a contact on Satellites. This is true or not? Thanks.
I appreciate these videos, i do wish he would take the time to go over his radio gear, cables and how it is all hooked up "in detail" some Amazon links would be nice. Maybe that is yet to come? I have struggled on which headset I should buy to hook up to the Sony recorder and TH-D72A Radio AND I still have not made a purchase... Don't want something cheap/uncomfortable. Anyone have a suggestion (s) ?? I have messaged a few of these Ham Sat experts but never get any response.. Maybe DX Engineering will put out a youtube video of a few Radio -Recorder - Headset examples from items they sell. Wouldn't that be helpful!! KA7MUB WA.
It looks like it is clipping at some point... In sound enginering we call that structure gain... where you wouldn't put your living room amp all the way up and plug your cell phone in it at 10% volume, you would end up in a lot of baground hiss or hum. If you also overdrive your amp input... you're gonna have distortion. on complex signal path, proper gain structure across every switching point from a device to another is critical to ensure maximized signal to noise ratio while avoiding clipping and distortion. I guess it is sometimes hard to master over a live event like that where the satellite will only be there for a few minutes... and where you can't prepare in advance like bands do soundcheck and rehearsal before the show.
This is a very good series for people like me, who are considering working satellites. Thanks for this very well made series.

Again, fantastic! 73 PA5BAS
Hmmm... unable to find XW-2A satellite. Still operational?
Where can I get that wall map for grid squares?
Only thing that would make this video series better is a little Grateful Dead playing softly in the background lol "Ripple" Maybe.

What about RS-44 for example where up linki fixed do we tune our self for receive than?
Excellent Video!! I'm curious as to the cables your using. I'm using a cheap set from Amazon and feel I can do better. What do you recommend?
Thank you for this and Dx Engineering. I have yaesu fit-847 I know radio is made for this. But can I use ft-991a for this to?
Thank you

What headset would u recommend for yeasu hand held
So, you are holding the Downlink freq. stable, on say 145.675? or something other in the bandwidth?

N = NOVEMBER, not Nancy. You're setting a poor example by encouraging the use of incorrect phonetics (and, I suspect, other procedures)
Your channel has no content.... Please keep it that way !!!!
Really...? Nancy is a Public Safety Phonetic not and ITU.
I dont EVER answer anyone that doesnt use standard phonetics
