Fuck yeah buddy, that series is seriously underappreciated. The first Soul Reaver is one of my very first memories of gaming. My parents had it on PC for some reason, they were never really gamers so I don't know what made them get it, and I played it way more than they ever did. It also had a dope ass demo disc in the sleeve, with the entire first area of Deus fuckin Ex on it. Good ass times.

That game still holds up today in my opinion and have bought every version on the PS2, PS3, PS Vita and PS4 and have beaten them all 100 percent except the PS Vita version.
Iron Shark PA gta 3 I was a junior in high school. Every single male you walked by in the halls from bell to bell would be talking about gta with his homies.

GTA 3 prolonged my adolescence, making me younger by at least 10 years. Seriously, only when my back started to hurt everyday, some years later, I was eventually forced to take notice of my biological age.
2001 was definitely one of the greatest years in video gaming. It really gave a sense of what games were capable of doing and doing it in ways people could only dream of in the years prior. Many of the games from that time set the standards by which we rate and enjoy games today. Definitely a nice throwback.

It didn't revolutionize bullet time. It invented it afaik, it is called bullet time in game and that is where the name comes from that everyone still uses to describe it today
im glad i was born 1999 so i could watch my mother play these gems that i have been collecting from my memory and replay my past. i miss these games so much and would want them back

I had actually just did a run through of MGS on the PS1 because the cover story for this on Game Informer had me very interested and I thought I needed to play 1 to understand 2 lmao. Imagine my surprise when I fired up Sons of Liberty. It's legit the only stealth focused game I love. It was exciting to beat it because I honestly don't often finish games. I tend to get bored before the end, but this was one of those games that had me thinking and strategizing in class and then spending all night after school playing through my strategies. MGS2, FFX and GoW were the few non-Xbox games I dedicated weeks to. I beat them and loved em for how fun they were. FFX is still the only Final Fantasy game that kept me intrigued to the end. I actually was upset it ended lol. That game was a marvel to look at back then. Shit, I'm sure you remember being blown away by their cutscenes
Your list was perfect but 2 of my all time favorite isn’t there : Gran Turismo 3 and Onimusha Warlords. 2001 was one of my all time favorite year alongside 2011.
Picked up a copy from Goodwill a couple years back before they started cataloging and selling their shit to local game shops. Been meaning to play it for awhile now.
Max Payne was an absolutely wonderful story, and the production was entirely unique, to me. I'll never forget that game. I'm not a die-hard fan of GTA by any means, but I will never forget some of that music. And man, Ico is one of my all-time favorite games.
I will ways hate that. I still own a couple. And I own a ton of games where there's a install disk and play disk. My current PC doesn't have a CD dive so yeah. I still play Unreal tournament 2004 and GTA San andreas on my laptop tho

Still to this day, one of my favorite games/series of games is Onimusha Warlords!!!! There is nothing like that first game!! I did enjoy the next 3 installments, but they still couldn’t top the first! I still replay the first game to this day! I’m sure I’m not alone when I say, “GIVE US A NEW ONIMUSHA!!!!!”
Jack Grimm same that game was amazing lost myself for an entire snowy winters weekend once. Bought it Friday completed it twice before work on Monday . This was before this 📱 was invented simple stuff captivated us for much much longer back then and we had the concentration to loose yourself no distractions etc .
So many of these games still look so good, especially for that long ago, I would still like to catch up and play Jade Empire from 2003. I still have it, never completed it, but need a XBox to play it on
Final Fantasy 10 was an absolute treat. It's one of few games I have replayed more than a handful of times. Jak and Daxter was a really fun game. Monsters Inc. Scream Team and Rayman 2 are two others which I have a lot of nostalgia for!
It's the only FF game I finished lol. I was so hooked, especially by the Yuna story. Man they had me hooked the whole game and I played through it again last year on my Switch. Just as much fun as I remember and I loved every second of playing it again. I'm gonna get FFXII for the Switch. I had started that game, but didn't even get halfway through when my Xbox took a crap and I had to give my friend back his PS2 (we traded systems and my Xbox had a dirty lens. After I cleaned it, it worked like brand new) and never got to play it again
Loved conkers bad fur day since i was a little kid, I legit thought no one knew about this game! I still have it plus 50 other games and N64 to this day
I had a copy that I lucked out on getting FOR FREE from a friend of mine, but ended up losing it along with the N64 and the rest of my collection of games in a storage unit that went unpaid. Still hurts years later.
I don't think that it is even close. HALO: COMBAT EVOLVED not only started a massive franchise, but it made the Xbox worth buying. Even today, Halo PC (the PC port of the game) is still played by many thousands of players each day. While GTA3 was a good game, it didn't define a genre, a console or a franchise.

I actually still have the demo disc of FF 10 that you got from the Official Playstation magazine and SSX Tricky is one of my top 10 games of all time 👍
I wish they’d make a re-release of Metal Gear Solid 1, 2, 3, & 4, so that I could play them on the PS4. I especially have been wanting to play 1 & 2 lately.
Well you can stream 4 with PS Now, but it sucks balls. Maybe it's just me, but the games are pixelated on a good internet connection, ps4 pro and a 4k monitor. You can try though, see how it goes.
@@jacobross735 I only tried RDR 1 since I never owned a PS3 but I gave up seconds into the game, exactly as you said, they look 240p. Here's to hoping ps5 will have backwards compatibility for every generation and an early ps5 pro release.
Well I do have MGS 4 on my PS3. I also own the METAL GEAR SOLID LEGACY COLLECTION for PS3 and my PS3 still works and is in good condition. But I would love to play the whole MGS Series on the PS4 again :(

Oh man I remember the hype when mgs 2 was announced and then finally playing the first level opening on the tanker in awful weather with next level graphics!!! Threw each and every guard overboard like a boss before finding young Asian ladies on posters while hiding bodies in the lockers indoors. What a game series.
I literally just beat the first DMC for the first time and it was really amazing. Enjoyed every second of it. Not enjoying DMC2 as much but its got its own little charm
Okay, are mine (mostly PC games though): Empire Earth, Battle Realms, Stronghold Crusader, Tropico, Operation Flashpoint, Gothic, GTA III, Final Fantasy X, Conker's Bad Fur Day, Super Smash Bros. Melee.
Metal Gear Solid 2 was my game! I remember one weekend, I think during the Cali wildfires, I decided to beat it. I filled a cooler full of beer and pulled my chair in front of the TV and sat there until I finished. Love that game.
Max Payne, Medal of Honor rising sun, and those hit man games are probably my favorite from my childhood. Then halo of course when I was in high school
Was never able to own a copy myself but remember spending ages just trying to set everyone on fire with the taser at a friends house... Would love a HD Remaster of that.
Because most of these fools JUST started gaming on Ps2 and have Zero knowledge of Conker. I liked the part when you fight the big doo doo monster, and when you have to pee on those rock people in the club.
I was blown away by Halo, but even moreso by Project Gotham Racing, a skill based drift racing game. I had just moved into my first house with my gf, now wife, had a full time job & bills, skateboard collecting dust. Was such a nice distraction to have the Xbox with those titles, oh and Morrowind a few months into the next year.
Nano Crowley yeah I don’t really understand enslaving your daughter because of your lust for power. I know pre sequel is not a well received game. But it did help you understand why jack is the way he is. And you can empathize with him a little bit.
None of those come close to any game on this list.. They're decent games, but none of them are legendary status. Two of them are just expansions, not even actual games...

I'm amazed at how many of these I own and love! Surely I couldn't have gotten them all back in 2001 - unless my parents just decided to give me a new game, every few months.. Must be a glitch in the matrix, I think. Great list!
Gothic is iconic and not forgotten. Arcanum is a really the game we do not forgot in present. The project Another Arcanum by Multiverse Team still works with this game: restore data, improve stability, fixing a bugs and make a new content.
2001 I was literally over seas protecting ppl. I do recall some of these games though. I remember buying 'Cool Boarders way after the release. Very solid video 👏
I defend DMC 2. Sure it's not as good as 1 but for what it had going against it it could have been a lot worse. It also was the beginning of so much innovative concepts in the genre. For that reason I appreciate it.
Same, but it was too dang easy. Especially after 1. Then they released 3 and it was too hard. The new editions after the 1st run of DMC is perfectly balanced, but I'm still proud of my progress in 3, even if I didn't have time to finish it. They apparently had a book that is set right before DMC V that goes back to 2's island and characters. To this day my wife has a drawing of the female lead she thought was a Dynasty Warriors character.
Yep, I kinda liked DMC 2 also. 5 is easily my favourite with the remake coming in a close second, but 2 was pretty aight, good memories playing that one.
@@M7S4I5L8V2A Sorry yes, DmC: Devil May Cry. As a longtime fan of the original games, I actually really liked that one, it was different and very stylish in its own way, the art style and world design was awesome, and the combat had a great flow to it with very intuitive controls.
@@takoshihitsamaru4675 Yeah I wasn't sure if you meant the reboot or RE2 since that's semi related to DMC, nothing wrong with liking the reboot though. It's a solid game that tries more than some in the genre, it copied all of it sure but it's mechanically good. I don't think the Angel Demon weapon system is good but there was one good game that uses the system, I think it's called Attack Spy. Unfortunately the game is only available on PC. Edit:It's called Assault Spy.

And Dragon Quest 8 blows FFx out of the water, i like ffx but DQ8 is miles ahead, beautiful open world with so much content.

Just as much fun as I remember and I loved every second of playing it again. I'm gonna get FFXII for the Switch. I had started that game, but didn't even get halfway through when my Xbox took a crap and I had to give my friend back his PS2 (we traded systems and my Xbox had a dirty lens. After I cleaned it, it worked like brand new) and never got to play it again
Loved conkers bad fur day since i was a little kid, I legit thought no one knew about this game! I still have it plus 50 other games and N64 to this day

I had a copy that I lucked out on getting FOR FREE from a friend of mine, but ended up losing it along with the N64 and the rest of my collection of games in a storage unit that went unpaid. Still hurts years later.

I don't think that it is even close. HALO: COMBAT EVOLVED not only started a massive franchise, but it made the Xbox worth buying. Even today, Halo PC (the PC port of the game) is still played by many thousands of players each day. While GTA3 was a good game, it didn't define a genre, a console or a franchise.

Well you can stream 4 with PS Now, but it sucks balls. Maybe it's just me, but the games are pixelated on a good internet connection, ps4 pro and a 4k monitor. You can try though, see how it goes.

@@jacobross735 I only tried RDR 1 since I never owned a PS3 but I gave up seconds into the game, exactly as you said, they look 240p. Here's to hoping ps5 will have backwards compatibility for every generation and an early ps5 pro release.
Well I do have MGS 4 on my PS3. I also own the METAL GEAR SOLID LEGACY COLLECTION for PS3 and my PS3 still works and is in good condition. But I would love to play the whole MGS Series on the PS4 again :(

Oh man I remember the hype when mgs 2 was announced and then finally playing the first level opening on the tanker in awful weather with next level graphics!!! Threw each and every guard overboard like a boss before finding young Asian ladies on posters while hiding bodies in the lockers indoors. What a game series.

Metal Gear Solid 2 was my game! I remember one weekend, I think during the Cali wildfires, I decided to beat it. I filled a cooler full of beer and pulled my chair in front of the TV and sat there until I finished. Love that game.
Max Payne, Medal of Honor rising sun, and those hit man games are probably my favorite from my childhood. Then halo of course when I was in high school

I was blown away by Halo, but even moreso by Project Gotham Racing, a skill based drift racing game.
I had just moved into my first house with my gf, now wife, had a full time job & bills, skateboard collecting dust. Was such a nice distraction to have the Xbox with those titles, oh and Morrowind a few months into the next year.

Gothic is iconic and not forgotten. Arcanum is a really the game we do not forgot in present. The project Another Arcanum by Multiverse Team still works with this game: restore data, improve stability, fixing a bugs and make a new content.

I defend DMC 2. Sure it's not as good as 1 but for what it had going against it it could have been a lot worse. It also was the beginning of so much innovative concepts in the genre. For that reason I appreciate it.
Same, but it was too dang easy. Especially after 1. Then they released 3 and it was too hard. The new editions after the 1st run of DMC is perfectly balanced, but I'm still proud of my progress in 3, even if I didn't have time to finish it. They apparently had a book that is set right before DMC V that goes back to 2's island and characters. To this day my wife has a drawing of the female lead she thought was a Dynasty Warriors character.
Yep, I kinda liked DMC 2 also. 5 is easily my favourite with the remake coming in a close second, but 2 was pretty aight, good memories playing that one.

As a longtime fan of the original games, I actually really liked that one, it was different and very stylish in its own way, the art style and world design was awesome, and the combat had a great flow to it with very intuitive controls.
@@takoshihitsamaru4675 Yeah I wasn't sure if you meant the reboot or RE2 since that's semi related to DMC, nothing wrong with liking the reboot though. It's a solid game that tries more than some in the genre, it copied all of it sure but it's mechanically good.
I don't think the Angel Demon weapon system is good but there was one good game that uses the system, I think it's called Attack Spy. Unfortunately the game is only available on PC.
