About Black Swan: They ARE talking about losing their love and passion for music. From what we know after the release of Map of Soul: 7 and the World tour they had planned(Black Swan belongs to this album) the group was meant to take a break since they hadn’t had one since they debuted in 2013. RM has said that they struggled to find a new message to convey. By now you may have noticed that BTS is not about just comercial bops, but actual deep lyrics. So when they felt they didn’t have a specific message to express, they had sort of an existential crisis. Then came the pandemic and we had new music that was upbeat and comforting, it was their new reason to create even though they hadn’t planned for that to happen. Fast forward to the FESTA 2022 (Festas are like events to commemorate their anniversary since they debuted) and RM specifically said they felt they had to discover themselves because they had been running non-stop since 2013 (I’m, of course, giving you an extremely short summary). It was painful to watch and to hear, but it was also so admirable to confirm once again that music means so much to them (you see how losing that passion was going to be their first death? It’s not exaggeration for them). Thankfully it seems they are having that time to find their spark and passion again as they're doing solo for now, and I’m sure when they comeback from their military service they will have many more stories to tell in the form of amazing music.
ON is my top motivational get-up-and-face-the-day song. The underlying message is a relatable “no pain, no gain, so welcome the pain”, but also “you don’t have to face the pain alone (find me and I’m gonna bleed with you). From a personal perspective as artists/superstars it shares there are dark, physically and mentally exhausting aspects to their level of success, but they recognize those things “come with the territory” & ARE part of their lives now because this is what they chose to do & what they still WANT to do so they will keep facing/overcoming those shadows in order to be here for us. IMO it’s a reassuring follow-up to Black Swan.
Realizing that the little girl in ‘on’ mv represent armys gives me goosebumps.. you can see in this mv they're putting down the cloth from her eyes to see the light of life.. it resembles that they're giving us(army) hope and motivation along with themselves.
Lyrics are what pulled me down the rabbit hole. I agree with you - all you seem to get these days are dating and break-up songs over and over again. Not interested. I love that BTS primarily write and sing about their own struggles, how they perceive the world, what they strive to change and, of course, loving yourself. But even when the subject matter is hard they always give you hope in their music too. They are just different and I love that. Thanks for reacting to these 2 amazing songs and 3 videos. So glad you liked them!
I love both these songs. Thanks for reacting to them. They all shine in both of these songs, and Jimin's dancing in Black Swan and Jung Kook's solo part in ON are outstanding. All of these were MVs were filmed in beautiful places in California. Black Swan was filmed at the Los Angeles Theater; ON MV was filmed at the Vasquez Rocks Natural Area Park,' and ON Manifesto Film at the Sepulveda Dam in Van Nuys. Another performance I really enjoy seeing and you may want to react to is their Proof mini concert. It was filmed in the Mojave Desert. They performed three songs, Yet To Come, Born Singer, and For Youth. 💜💜
Great reaction! Also I like that you don't have just the same insights that other reactors have to their videos. It's nice to see. Also your cat is adorable, looks like he/she was looking for pets, pet them man! ☺💜💜💜
Loved your reaction and interest in BTS. Depth of lyrics and artistic detail, there is so much in any of their MV I need to watch multiple times to catch just how much there is in each. The songs are great to listen too and the choice or blend of voice is perfect for each, but then you add the visual, the choreography and... it's pure art the likes of which is rare nowadays. They deserve their success and the praise, they are raising the standards in the industry.
*Jungkook the "Golden Maknae" is releasing his first Solo Album called "GOLDEN" this November 3. He has already released 2 singles "Seven" which topped #1 Billboard hot 100 and broke the record for biggest song by a male in 2023 and "3D" as the second record-breaking single. Tune in for the Ace of BTS in his first full album*
Pls react to JIMIN'S and other members solo projects as well, for JIMIN he released his most recent ep “Face” title track named “LIKE CRAZY" is the first song by an k-pop SOLOIST to debut #1 on Billboard hot100 and 2nd asian male SOLOIST overall, all of jimin's discography is so versatile and unique to him honestly I can't pick a fav yet but filter, serendipity and like crazy are my favs as of now
9:54 I love the dancing in Black Swan too and yes, this move is insane. I love that Jimin got so much solo dancing in this MV when it's more of contemporary dance that is one of his specialities. There is a Bangtan Bomb (behind the scenes video) of Jimin's solo dancing in Black Swan if you wanna watch for yourself or react to it But Black Swan's lyrics, dancing, location, instrumental, all the dancing, every members vocal/rap parts of the song, everything is just beautiful. The live performances are so beautiful too and the different instrumentals they have used for different live performances too. I love Black Swan!
It will always amaze me with On how so many ARMYs seem detached from the meaning of the lyrics and are more concerned with showcasing what in essence is a performance video. I am not poo pooing the Kinetic Manifesto. It is fantastic. What I am highlighting is how in most cases fans are first exposed to a music video then the performance so connection to what the song is saying to some degree exists prior to seeing the performance. Big Hit for whatever reasons decided to put out the Kinetic Manifesto first and a wonderfully allegorical music video connected intimately to the song's deeper meaning wound up relegated in most fans' minds top being an also ran. Very sad. In the case of Black Swan, Big Hit first released a modern dance performance by a Slovenian dance troupe with its own choreography which laid down a base for interpreting the later BTS music video. Fans while not always getting the song's connections to the psychology of Karl Jung, were able to meld elements of both forming explanations at their own level. I am sure the Martha Graham quote from the Slovenian performance will appear in this comment section. In my mind, Black Swan to some extent gets interpreted for meaning whereas the Kinetic Manifesto functions as a circus which has left the track On relatively uninterpreted. This is unfortunate because On is a deep song. But circus causes eyes to bulge. You just have to look at how Black Pink attracts fans to see well done circus. They have successful careers without needing to relate deep meanings. BTS is a bit different in that they pack messages, stories, and deep meanings often tied to cultural elements into tracks, then supplement it with circus. RM said while he writes meanings for people, more often than not fans really are not interested in the words. He even said he can be guilty of such behavior when listening to others' tracks. So I am afraid ARMY will keep pushing spectacle with On and the reasoning behind the existence of On will remain hidden to all but the most inquisitive. Good on you for going the extra mile.
Black Swan was inspired by a quote from a famous ballerina’s memoirs. In it she says that dancers die two deaths. The first is when they can no longer dance. And it’s this death that is by far the hardest. BTS used this but applied to not just dance but the entire music creation and delivery.
Your comments, as always are so thoughtful and on point! I love it! (On a side note, i never respect the reactors who dont give that little ooooh to Jimins nipslip lol)
Hi I am back. Good reaction, ty. This one has beautiful deep meaning of their lyrics. As you notice like lines " It would be my first death. That's what I'm afraid of ." It has that emotional theme of an artist fear for losing their passion for what they do. With this song BTS dives deep into their inner selves as artists and faces the shadows they had once hidden. The song lends voice to their fears that one day music will no longer be able to move or touch them. The very moment they come face to face with the ‘Black Swan’ within themselves, however, they are stricken with a paradoxical realization that music is all they have. It is a confession of an artist who has truly learned what music means to himself. It's also inspired from Martha Graham, who said “A dancer dies twice once when they stop dancing, and this first death is more painful.” Now with the band on a break from group work and focusing more on solo projects (solo albums). We know this was also a hint to us that they were struggling. I hope u watch all the performances for this song. =0] Stay safe. - 2019 ARMY NY USA 💜 Jen W said on 6/7/22 Black Swan ballet: changing from white to black swan - growing up, losing innocence. Black Swan: Mainly written by RM, the one you like, is about their fears of losing all passion for music, either writing it or performing on stage. It's also based on a quote by Martha Graham who was an important figure in the world of modern dance, "A dancer dies twice. Once when they stop dancing and this death is more painful." They've been doing this for a long time now and for some of them it's all they've ever done from a young age but realized music is their life. MsBeatrice_81 said on 3/19/22 Fun fact: Before BTS began doing it, it wasn't normal at all for Korean idol groups to release songs with deeper meanings, discuss serious topics in their songs, acknowledge issues of vulnerability like burnout, depression or mental illness. It wasn't normal for idols to open up about their personal troubles at all. In fact, doing so got some idols thrown out of their companies. It was also not normal or common to have a running storyline/theme that is carried through multiple albums and/or MVs and songs. But BTS did it all so successfully, and broke those stigmas, to the point that now many other Korean idol groups have started trying to do those things, with varying degrees of sincerity and success. This song, its lyrics and MV are part of the "Shadow" portion of BTS's Map of the Soul era, in which they released albums and songs based on Carl Jung's theories regarding the Persona, Shadow, and Ego. This track is an exploration of their "shadow" selves' fear that they may someday lose their passion for their art - they ask if perhaps they are already losing it- and they wonder what comes after that "first death" of the loss of passion. In the end, they continue to fight for their passion and their art, claiming they won't be swept away by these fears again. I would encourage you to think about how counter-cultural BTS is being in songs like this: Not only are they dealing with topics that were taboo only a few years ago, but they're being unbelievably personally vulnerable, sincere and open. Most of bts song have a meaning and almost everyone is relate to it . The song can help you a lot with their beautiful lyric . Also bts products every kind of song that you can alway find to light up your mood
For ON they say it’s supposed to be a continuation of their early song NO. NO is about fighting the establishment and those trying to tie you down. ON is about fighting yourself and the restraints you put on yourself and not falling victim to hubris or the your own doubts.
I think maybe it’s both a continuation of N.O. and No More Dream because it is probably all that you mentioned plus the message to follow your dream like how they said at the end of the video :)
kinetic energy is energy constantly in motion, so I have always thought that the Kinetic Manifesto was a dance performance for them rather than a normal music video (even though they made one for ON anyway). Science lesson mixed with BTS😂
You are right……BTS doesn’t dance like other kpop groups……particularly due to 3J…….Jimin, JHope, and Jungkook! JHope is the dance leader and an incredible street / hip hop dancer. Jungkook brings a power and strength to their dances that is so cool. But Jimin…..ah Jimin…..he is the #1 dancer in kpop because he is a completely uniquely talented, beautiful dancer. He is trained in contemporary dance, popping and locking, and has a strong background in martial arts. All of these blended together give you a dancer like no other…..the irreplaceable Park Jimin💜
Ohh god one more time you came with BTS💜💜💜💜💜💜 I watched this video 3 times but still cant get over from it . I am a BTS army and cant tell you that how i am waiting for for next BTS reaction video 💜💜💜💜💜💜
Thanks for your reactions here - I loved them and you are pretty spot on. Some people struggle with Black Swan, but yes, you're right, It's about the fear that they may lose their passion for music, which has been their life for over 10 years. You're not wrong about On either but I'll add some background that you probably are aware of. Since before their debut, people and the Kpop industry have been actively taking action to make success harder for BTS. Nowadays you might think they are too big for this to be possible, but attempts continue. Only yesterday I saw a post about "Korean netizens" lambasting Yoongi for not entering military service as an active duty recruit but instead going in as a community service officer, stating that in 2020 he tested as fully fit. The post failed to fully acknowledge the malicious and toxic nature of those claims, stating that only a few ARMYs knew about his shoulder problem. But millions of us knew, and it must have been common knowledge even at that time in Korea. When in training he was in a road accident with a car when he was a delivery driver That damaged his shoulder : did not ask for treatment because he was scared of being cut from training but tried to manage despite the injury. He got some surgery a ew years later but it wasn't very successful In 2021 (?) he was unable to hold that arm above his shoulder without intense pain and he underwent further surgery and 3 months rehab. After that it improved but even then it was assessed this condition would affect his ability to use a rifle - so Community Service Recruit. All this is common knowledge but the haters tried to imply he has somehow avoided appropriate service - the implication being using connections r bribery. Because you loved these MVs so much I encourage you to watch any one of the various live performances : ON Jimmy Fallon in Grand Central Station, Black Swan - Jimmy Fallon show (he had a BTS week during lockdown and they performed live.
Thank you for your reaction, it's really interesting to watch when we already know all the song, lyrics, MV and all the work they did for this comeback because you have a new point of view, news questions, you're not overeact and try to understand everything with a new perspective. It's really interesting for me who love BTS and always try to catch and understand their arts. Maybe if you want to react to more old music to understand their style and their past I recommend No more dream (their really first sont and MV), Danger, I need you, Fire You can also watch DNA and IDOL, those MV are piece of arts (don't forget to breath) For dance choregraphy I'll recommend to watch RUN BTS And for b-side please listen to Cypher pt3 (rap line), House of Cards (vocal line), Pied Piper (really interesting lyrics), Silver Spoon/Baepsae (my fav) 😁

Just peaked back in hoping to find an ARMY who would prove my prior comment wrong regarding On. As a Map of the Soul song on an album with tracks such as Persona, Shadow, and Ego I was hoping someone might mention Karl Jung's concept of individuation which is a big part of On. Even the No More Dream switching to Dream (despite the debut track of the same No More Dream) speaks to individuation as the wall is passed through and "pride rock" is scaled. On, the other 3 tracks, and indeed Black Swan all are literally psychology lessons using Jung's theories in applied contexts related to BTS' members' emotions. I just hoped a few intellectual ARMY's would enter the discussion as you seem to be an intellectual guy. But I guess I got what I expected. As you are an intelligent person who enjoys understanding lyrics, I will recommend the DKDKTV explanation video. I know it will impress you.
Ur cat looks like Jimin! i love it. Cat's actually like BTS songs it's a thing. Loved seeing ur cat begging u for pets and u just ignored it. Poor Kitty!
If you need to, theres a good explanation video for the ON MV and all of its symbolism. Tho I think an ARMY with better memory than mine might have to give you a link. 😆

kinetic energy is energy constantly in motion, so I have always thought that the Kinetic Manifesto was a dance performance for them rather than a normal music video (even though they made one for ON anyway). Science lesson mixed with BTS😂
Cute cat. You are discovering that every song is your favourite. We've all been there.
Felicitări BTS dor de voi

please react to bts dance practices! It's crazy how good they are at their dances too
Congratulations on reaching 15K subs
Seventeen next... i am requesting this group since your first video

Cypher plzz all 4 parts
Thank you for your reaction, it's really interesting to watch when we already know all the song, lyrics, MV and all the work they did for this comeback because you have a new point of view, news questions, you're not overeact and try to understand everything with a new perspective. It's really interesting for me who love BTS and always try to catch and understand their arts.
Maybe if you want to react to more old music to understand their style and their past I recommend No more dream (their really first sont and MV), Danger, I need you, Fire
You can also watch DNA and IDOL, those MV are piece of arts (don't forget to breath)
For dance choregraphy I'll recommend to watch RUN BTS
And for b-side please listen to Cypher pt3 (rap line), House of Cards (vocal line), Pied Piper (really interesting lyrics), Silver Spoon/Baepsae (my fav) 😁
plz do on bts pied piper+dimple live performancs

Poor Kitty!
You need to watch BTS in live ❤
This song is about their losing passion for something....if they would lose it then it would be their first death.
💜

If you need to, theres a good explanation video for the ON MV and all of its symbolism. Tho I think an ARMY with better memory than mine might have to give you a link. 😆
