    Great work as usual man! That is a sharp looking unit, and looks like good build. I like the back panel, plenty of inputs, and nice layout. Thanks for the "under the hood" look. I like that isolation for the digital circuitry. I looks like it has some really decent internal components, especially for the price point. I have used Denon AVR's for years, and have always had a great experience with them. Thanks for this video, and have a great one man!

    • @MrPINKFL0YD
      @MrPINKFL0YD 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In my book imagining is the placement of the individual instruments in the sound stage of the speaker. The more defined in space the better. Warm is a full tube like sound. People mistake it with bass. It's not. Neutral has no color added in and is Analytical and is best for the recording studio. This is all my views, after decades of listening to music and it's like describing color...

    Great review as usual Sean UR Da man ! Your boy Ron never got back to me on my questions on the Parasound Intergrated. Obviously I still bought it and I'm enjoying it quite a bit even without the S400s I believe it was a great investment and will match up well once they arrive.
    Just for anyone interested including you I hooked up my iMac to the Hint 6 via the usb input and the built in ESS Sabre32 Reference DAC ES9018K2M is pretty sweet. It accepts up to 32 bit 384kHz native DSD & DoP I'm loving my digital library. This bit of info no pun intended on the dac hadn't been reviewed to my knowledge. I was not aware of the Dac's performance. I don't believe Ron in his review of the previous model did a critique in the DAC section. The balance and flat sounding description... well that helped me to decide. Many people like warm sounds, but when a person's speaker is warm, that it's going to be a mismatch. What is not clear is the soundstage of this piece as well as the clarity and openness. I'm happy to know that you like tone controls; that's my main criteria for a good preamp of integrated amp. Not all music comes in perfect recording, and if you can't adjust it to your taste after spending $$$ or if you have to get a hernia unplugging and replugging in different speakers and gears... Sigh it's really an anti-climax and frankly very very tedious. And again, thank you Sean so much for doing what you do. You are dangerous, your mention of the Onkyo - well, it's on it's way to my home. One of my trips to the U.S. well, I hope I can route it to your home - one day.

    • @ZeroFidelity
      @ZeroFidelity  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You bring up a good point regarding clarity and openness. This is a very tricky thing for me to navigate because it all hinges on your personal reference points. For example, if you are new to this hobby, then a full-featured integrated like this one may showcase information that you never knew existed! It'll sound ridiculously clear! However, if you're somebody who has owned tons of integrated amps, then you'll likely notice that full-featured integrated amps rarely sound as open and as clear as a more-simple, purpose-built audiophile solution. I outright mentioned that in the review, but I suppose I could have done a better job of adding context. But meh, covering all bases would require scripted videos, and I'm not about that life. :D

    • @wiebl5266
      @wiebl5266 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ZeroFidelity All solid state amps sound exactly the same, as long as it's not being pushed to the point of distortion. This is a widespread misconception that amplifiers have sound characteristics when in reality there is none. Hundreds of blind AB tests have been conducted, and countless measurements. A good few decades ago some amplifiers had different methods of gaining the signal, and as a result some sounded pretty bad. But these days 99% of all solid state amp companies use tried and tested amplifier designs. There's no difference in sound between a $1000 100watt amp and a $100,000 100 watt amp.

      @@jeanpierresnyman652 I wish I could co-sign on that thought. Run it off of 240 volts 60HZ if it is switchable
    from 120 volts 60 HZ.
    If you heard that on 250 50 hz overseas in like
    say France.
    240 volts 60 HZ wakes things up big time.
    Some are only switchable inside.
    Depends on brand and models

    Hey Sean, saw this review last night.
    That is a very interesting piece for $500 from Denon. One thing I did not expect is the ability to shut off the unused inputs such as digital, not for $500. While Denon and Marantz are both under the umbrella of DM Holdings it looks like Denon borrowed from Marantz on that one. My Marantz ND8006 has that feature and more, but it is also about twice the price and it is source as opposed to amp. I can see how easy it would be to recommend that Denon to someone for either a stop over while saving for something on a higher rung or to simply fulfill a need.
    What is also interesting is the native signature sound difference between the two. I would have thought the Marantz to best the Denon, but it seems the other way around in this case. I am one who prefers a balanced sound. That said, I strongly suspect that as one moves up the Marantz chain it would be a different story with Marantz out-performing Denon. (Two different build philosophies in the upper levels). Of course, then we are talking about products with cost where one would be better served procuring a dealer rather than going through a Best Buy or something.
    Yes, then there are speakers with some pairing better for one or the other. Yes, ones such as Paradigm and Revel would go well with the Marantz and likely allow to tame the signature sound to balance. I know my Paradigms, which happen to be the Studio 100 V5 would do well, then again, they do well with almost anything! (The discontinued studio line from Paradigm are not tilted, in fact, they are extremely efficient and balanced, not to mention revealing. As for the Monitor line and new more expensive lines….all I can say, is what the heck happened? Talk about tilted)! I digress..

      Truth be told, I expected the Denon 800 to be a bust. As in, I'd return the unit with no review kind of a bust. Glad that things didn't go in that direction. It's a good piece!

    • @jbbevan
      @jbbevan 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have Paradigm dual 8" towers which I've had for some time...but I have found them to be excellent and virtually free of coloration. I am strongly considering the PM6006 to replace my original Sprout, so I am glad you feel that that is a good pairing...but, as you say, the Paradigms (in my case) have worked very nicely with four different amplifiers in the past. I listen almost exclusively to classical...or at least "natural" instruments...so I'm interested in flat frequency response.

    • @ericelliott227
      @ericelliott227 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jbbevan Are you talking about the Paradigm Prestige line? I have not heard those, but I can tell you that the Personas are severely tilted (colored) and the Monitors are tilted as well, but not quite as much, but still noticeable. I run Paradigm Studio 100 v5 and since all speakers do have some color (we can say the same about amps), I can say though that the Studios (discontinued sadly) are very balanced and will play with almost anything. As to synergy, well, that is anyone's guess and is unknown until tried. As for response, it is really the speakers doing most of that work, but a little part is the signal fed from the amp and of course the recording. Tone controls can be your friends in severe situations. I have never had to use tone controls for balanced frequency purposes with my Studios no matter the amp. For a small few recordings though is another story.
      I listen to everything from Bach to Rock except today's pop, rap, hip hop and what they try top pass off as Country.

      @jbbevan 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ericelliott227 Yes, the Studio Line (straight up towers...no tilt). I've had them about 20 years...but no sign of fatigue.

    I had the Denon PMA800NE hooked up to my Klipsch RP600M and it was a great match. Now the Denon is paired with KEF Q-150`s and a REL t-zero sub in a small room (10 X 12) and it sounds pretty damn good. Actually the Denon 800 series including the CD player and network player works very well and like ZF mentioned in this review, pairs very well with a wide variety of speakers.

      @@AromaFrank I would say the Klipsch. The Denon is a very muscular sounding integrated that doesn't have the most refined top end but the RP-600's balance that out in my opinion.

      @@AromaFrank I also think the KEF Q 150's are overpriced. I got mine on sale for $299 which you can get them on sale now and that is a real bargain. The 600's are also on sale now and also a bargain. The KEF's are a small speaker and have their limits and they do work well in a small to medium room at moderate listening levels otherwise they will distort as the volumes moves to the right.

      @deputy3690 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AromaFrank Glad I can help out. I also have the KEF 350's and I find them a bit "boomy" as I have them on a shelf about 10 inches from the wall and I know better that is way too close. They are much better on stands 2 or 3 feet away from any wall, but that is not my situation right now. I actually prefer the 150's over the 350's in a small room close to a wall. I just purchased a pair of the Jamo's Concert series 93 II after seeing Zero Fidelity's review and I prefer them over the Klipsch 600's also. They are on sale now at Crutchfield for $399.00! Very huge sounstage, I love them. Also for $75.00 are the Sony core series SS-C5's or something like that.... they are VERY NICE as well and on sale at Best Buy. All of these are rear ported but I think they are okay against the wall say 8 to 12 inches away... not ideal but they all sound very good for the money!

      Sadly, I did not. However, I am familiar with the Burr Brown DAC that they use. In short: Much like the sound of the PMA 800 NE, this chipset doesn't give you a whole lot of aural fireworks. What it gives you is a balanced, slightly warm presentation that makes for easy listening.

    I appreciate your approach, who is this for, what's typical at the price point.... early Denons had a nice warm sound but lacked a beautiful midrage. It took me years of listening and swapping gear to learn to hear that. There is something attractive about a basic integrated. Maybe less beautiful sound but less expensive and demanding of my time, if that makes sense.

    In the 90s and early 2000's things were the other way around. At that price point the Marantz would be the more 'neutral' and balanced sounding amp compared to the Denon. I have experienced this myself when I bought my Marantz PM7200 (which I still own) Its competitor, the slightly more expensive Denon PMA 1500MKII was more bassy and trebly, at the expense of a clear midrange. The Denons in the budget and mid price range always were more powerful than the Marantzs, better at driving more difficult speakers. This still is the case I think. But Marantz then already went a bit further in the high-end with their product line than Denon did.

      It sounded like other amps with twice the rated power and even more than the 2nd hand Aiwa i had before which was rated at 55 wrms.
      The sales guy kept at me about it even though i kept saying 25w rms wasnt enough to drive my speakers.

    Also the no sub output is no big deal. As a lot of audio experts would agree the best way to hook up a sub in a two channel stereo setup is to connect the sub to the speaker outputs in parallel with the main speakers. Since the input impedance is very high in a subwoofers hi level speaker input it doesnt load down and draw any power from the amplifier. In this way it allows the subwoofer to take of the sound characteristics of the amp itself!
