At the start of this video toward the end of the field, was my home of 40 plus years, we were in the (over 1000) year flood plain. which means never to likely happen. actually, told by insurance company, we would never need flood insurance. This scene is beyond heartbreaking a lifetime of saving, working and living gone in a few hours. This will forever be my home, as I feel God placed us in this little house and community. We fully understand no flood insurance no help. But just trying to survive every day and hear our government has given more money to another country is maddening. We have been so blessed by our fellow Americas help, friends and neighbors we have never met. And we say THANK YOU. We are not asking for a handout just a hand up. You may have heard some say we have been forgotten; we have by the so-called leaders of this country. But not by its people.
Thank you so very much for sharing what has happened in you home area. This part of North Carolina is like second home to me. It hurts to see the damage done, but one must not turn a blind eye to the suffering of the local folks.
Another great video-looks like things are going slow but steady. Your camera work and editing is outstanding. Please keep posting these high quality videos. The national media is doing nothing, and these videos are the only way to follow what is going on.
As always, thank you so much for showing those of us who treasure this area so much, regular glimpses of how it is as the recovery effort moves forward! Although a video can’t convey just how devastating this event has been- and is, for the souls of that region, it drives home the incredible power that swept through there! As we say goodbye to a year that we’ll never forget, we welcome a new year with hope, love and continued prayers!
Happy New Year! It's been a tough year for this area! I hope 2025 gives back some of what it took from everyone this year. Great footage again and it's really nice to see how it was last year and how it is this year and the recovery work being done to make things somewhat better again. It gives hope. And it still shows how much help is still needed after 90 days.
Wow incredible editing and the before and after’s are jaw dropping. But thank you for the reminder of what was and what will be again. Hard to picture after so many days seeing only destruction. Gives hope.
Happy New Year to you and all the wonderful mountain people in WNC! This is one of your best videos yet. That intro was stunningly beautiful! You've made great advances in your editing and composition since you've started. Thank you for continuing to document the progress.
Green Mountain got it name after my Great great grandfather. They called Greenberry 😢,Green. His father gave to his natural son this area of land called Green Mountain. There never been a storm as bad as Herlene. I was there at Woody Cemetery in August. The North Toe was low. But there it was raining. It did for days before Herlene. People didn't think the water would rise like it did. Taking everything down. I love this area of God's country. Praying one day it will be rebuild. To my kin love
I drove up through Asheville along the French Broad to check on the status of the NS A.S. line from Asheville up to Newport on New Years Day since I had the day off of work. Thankfully, all the roads I take (including the back roads) were open and I was able to see what work was still to be done on Norfolk Southern's line. Needless, it pales in comparison to what happened to the Clinchfield line. I flew my drone about a few miles south along the siding between Ivy and Volga where some empty double stack rail cars were sitting on the siding. It kept the rail from going into the river but still washed away several chunks to the point where I do not know how NS will fill in the gaps when rail cars are already sitting on the washed out tracks. I will say too that the amount of vegetation that was washed away and the amount of debris in the river (islands and banks) is staggering. I assume the signal at the 10:20 minute mark is the siding signal for the interlocking at North End Green Mountain?
It's so sad and breaks my heart of the damage and destruction that caused Gods blessing to everyone in these towns and for the family's left without there loved ones Gods blessing to you all
I know it doesnt really sound appropriate to those poor folk affected by Helene but happy new year, god bless & wish all of you the very best in getting your lives back on track. ❤🙏🏻
I have wondered, and I hope the local officials have given some thought to - what is ahead with the winter snow melt and spring rains. A lot of the hillsides are disrupted, and the soil could repeat the slides experienced during Helene. Just the rain this past weekend washed out numerous foot bridges.
I keep reading and hearing people worried about the tourists. I don't think anyone has to worry about tourists for a few years. This is going to be a long time of healing ahead for these poor people.😢
You know folk's i just can,t get it out of my head about something,,,, and it's all the damns thats above bat cave and chimeny rock. and every time i think about it i get angry,,,, i was told that one damn was in danger of giving away. now with this in mind,, could it be that they open the gates to far? idk that thought will always be in the back of my mind. and let me say this: someone needs to always keep an eye on the weather for rain. and yes like one person said,,, keep an eye also on melting snow,,, it brakes my heart to see what i loved gone,,, and all the people that are still missing and for thoses who are suffering. some nights i can't sleep with this on my mind,,, and i have a bad heart as well,,, folk's this doesn't need to happen again. got to find that common ground,,, and what i mean by that is to stay alert at all times especially during the fall and winter months and know what to do. God bless you all,, iam praying for you all every day and trying to keep up with updates when i can get them. i have plans to come up in May if my heart is doing ok,, ya'll stay safe and watch the weather or listen to it so you will know whats coming and prepare for it. I LOVE YOU ALL
Thank you again for a wonderful report. You are continuing to show the struggles the businesses and families have ahead of them. It's a shame our country has so many resources that are not being used to help. To heck with the red tape. HELP IS NEEDED !!!
The "debris site" is supposedly run by a company called Debris Tech and they are going to mulch it and truck it to TN. I can't verify that so I didn't want to mention it in the video.
Our state could have done better. The people out there did really good. But, state authorities, just blows. Everytime there is a big storm or the power goes out. They scramble around like there confused. Something needs to change soon.
Maybe your Democrat Governor Copper could find ways to help the citizens of this disaster instead of commuting death row prisoners to life imprisonment in order for the taxpayers can support these criminals
Yes coming out pretty good . I hate to say this but it takes time . Looks like they getting ready to rebuild the bridge . The toe and Nolachucky took out a lot of bridges in NC and TN . What kind of plant it across the river from the store ? Keep em coming . Ill be over there Saturday taking supplies to Bakersville . I try to fill niches to what they need .
Happy New Year (as they say) to everyone! Please like and subscribe! ❤
Happy New Year Jeff! Be blessed in your work here1 💚

Thank you for showing before pictures, so those of us who are not familiar with the area can see how total this disaster is.

It must be so frustrating to see progress going so slow. Excellent coverage from a bird's eye.

Indeed it is..
Thank you for sharing. Happy New Year👍
It's so sad. For families that will never have closure, because so many of the dead will never be found. For years, if ever...

The spring is going to wreak havoc on us... barring a miracle. I feel like we are just the little builder guys from Fraggle Rock.

Damns above Bat Cave ??????
@walterfarley9230 yes sir,, back toward Asheville
“Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.”

YES!!
Will they be burning all the trash piles? Doesn’t seem like there is would be enough room in dumps for all that stuff. So sad…

They will have to be selective what and were they burn, lots of toxicity in the debris.
I’ve seen quite a few burn piles on the way in and out of town. As long as the weather permits, many folks have burn pits/piles/barrels.
The "debris site" is supposedly run by a company called Debris Tech and they are going to mulch it and truck it to TN. I can't verify that so I didn't want to mention it in the video.
Insurance agent in Burnsville told me we have 864k acres of timber down so 3 times the size of Atlanta ga so we’ll be burning
Hi i would like to find a way to volunteer to help down there im from Pennsylvania I can drive and run equipment but have no idea where to ask thanks

It appears to have been the mining company Sabelco's barrel filling operation.
