Historically, Early Hoplites only covered themselves with cloth like togas and they bear shield big enough to cover their entire torso and some variety of spears one as twice of their height (generally for defensive formation such as phalanx) and short one for Skirmisher. Apart from that, they also carried sword for spare weapon in case if the spear has broken.
@@htf5555 sort of lol. The actual battle was called "battle of Thermopylae" and the Spartan didn't just fight by themselves, There were actually at least 5000 soldiers that fought against Tens to hundred Thousands of Persian (approximately 70-120 thousands). The Greek Armies were consisted of 300 Elite Spartans (it's highly believe that they are king Leonidas elite guards) along with 1000 Boeotian (Arcadian), 1000 Thespian and thousands more from various city states including Thebes and Corinth.
@@alpergames_aom1 I still prefer to stick to heavy unless I absolutely need the extra stats lol. I tend to stick with heavy for everybody tbh. Just looks better in my opinion.
From a competetive standpoint it would be nice if weapons and shield, maybe even the helmet only changes via armory upgrades, not like a copper shield looks like heavy with hearvy infantry upgrade.
No vertical crest for the Heavy hoplite? BRING IT BACK! Also, the copper and bronze shield patterns are lame af. Honestly. the iron shield pattern is okay.
I'm sorry but this was the main reason for me to request a refund. Why is the first guy naked? Can't he at least afford a shirt. But ok, that can be artistic choice. But why is he pretending to hold an invisible shield? Why is he holding an short wooden stick like that? Meanwhile the guy with the massive twohanded axe also holds a shield after the upgrade. How is that supposed to work? If they wanted to make upgradeable units they should give them individual styles. The naked wood stick guy could be a nervous militia boy for instance. The way they did it just seems really lazy. Bad first impression.
1. He's shirtless because its in the Classical Age, where you're just starting to train troops, so of course he looks bare chested. Not to mention it was like this in the original. 2. Again, it was like that in the original. 3. Ditto. 4. Did you not play the original? 5. Refunded the game something so trivial. Lol.
I also wish their equipment would get new effects with the different divine upgrades
I had absolutely no idea the basic Hoplites are shirtless! These dudes are buffed!

They were in the original too it just wasn't very clear.

@@deandeathstrike9398wait so 300 wasn’t entirely bullshit?

@@deandeathstrike9398 well yeah of course, but what I meant was hoplites not wearing armor lol
I love how he holds his arm up when he's shieldless, like he's trying to stop an oncoming axe with his forearm.
👍👍
I wish they gave all unupgraded units some low-level shield, like a wooden buckler or wicker or something.
Yes it could have been
It's better than stopping axes with your chest

I remember in the original Age of Mythology I used to never go to champion tier because I just hated the gold armour lol. Heavy was my favourite.
Now ?

so true! The heavy ones look soo badass
I had this to the Egyptian spearmen.I am loving the heavy they had and no the gold yellow armor they had.
Man, hoplites are ripped!
Wow, they even gave him nipples! What great detail, right there!
You makes me realize that the basic hoplite is shirtless 😮
I miss the vertical crests that the original heavy hoplites had😢 but other than that, it looks pretty good!

me too, I hope a mod will be made that will bring it back,
I would make the mod myself, but I don't know how to 3d modeling for now

Campaign
@@alpergames_aom1 Why is it different? Is that a particular map?
I'll have to check because in the old game only heroes like Ajax or Chiron had the SPC version
I think it was made for cinematic videos because it has no attack
Maybe someone with information can write
oof not even a tunic on the basic hoplites that just bad design... the no shield was bad enough in og AoM (Hoplites get their name from their shield)
Yeah, they could easily get a plain wooden shield for the level prior to copper.
That's what the upgrades are for. AOM is literally Age of Empires but with gods and monsters.
What kind of Hoplite doesnt have a shield 😂
In the old game, the unupgraded hoplite had no shield
A concept of a hoplite
@@crimsoncrusader4829 lmao, "I have a concept of a hoplite! It's a very good shieldless hoplite! Some say it's the greatest hoplite. Shieldless." lol
I kinda wish there was more diversity in the helmets and the shields, meaby some facial hair variations with the first two tiers
