    I have watched more than 1 channel with mechanical and engine themes. But this one is EXTREMELY GENIUS. I can only shake my head in awe of what this brother did. With every detail very fine and precise measurements. I really love this channel. Hopefully in the future videos I can see you driving your motorbike with your single mini jet engine. gbu brother. brilliant job..👍🏻👍🏻❤️❤️

    • @NStone79
      @NStone79 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great build, but how well will it hold up though? The balls are constraining the shaft to move in 1 dimension, but it's riding on 2 rather sharp edges that are the keyway shoulders. I'm sure it will suffice for intermittent use, but why not a ball nose end-mill of exact same diameter as the retaining balls for increased contact area?..... Also.... No lift on the return stroke? Regardless, great build, keep up the good work!

    • @Argosh
      @Argosh ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NStone79 there's so many places where this falls short, but it's not meant as a serious machine tool. If they use it at all it'll be fine for the job.

    • @paradiselost9946
      @paradiselost9946 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Argosh it wouldnt get used at all, i dare say. gotta clamp the mount down. then go get motor from shelf, clamp that down. fiddle fiddle, tinker tinker, adjust and tweak... spend half an hour setting up, when you could drop the bar straight into the toolpost and do it by hand in a minute.
      then pull it all off and shove it back on the shelf to do the next operation... thats not a useful tool.
      its so slow and clunky it wouldnt be helpful if doing several, either.
      like everything made on this channel. its a facade. flashy editing, dramatic music... but the actual engineering is absolutely pathetic. nothing is done properly. rather than watch it fascinated... you already see that theres some failings... try and pick up on just how many aspects of each and every design he gets wrong... whole backlog of videos with these janky contraptions that serve no real purpose other than make views.
      "he"... its a whole team of people... at least three. everything planned and thought out but nothings actually... "thought out". other than "how to make video".
      am i being too negative?
      naw. this is one of those channels that i try not to watch as it simply pisses me off. like bashing my head against a brick wall :)

    You're a star ! - At 10:37 you just showed an amazing trick to hold square bar in a 3 jaw lathe chuck by using a bit of tubing to get around the 3 jaw problem - I sadly didn't think of this before I bought and installed expensive 4 jaw self centering chucks on all my lathes just to have the privilege of being able to turn down square bar stock without having to use a 4 jaw independent chuck and mess around with clocks to get it dead center ! - Well done - Great project and video man ! 👍👍👍👍👍

  • @boltonky
    @boltonky ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Love the build you always give my mind something to think about engineering wise, only thing i might do different is add a clapperbox but get that given yours rotates it could become a problem. Other option is adding a horizontal drill attachment which some lathes already have attachments for.
    Great work and only dream of a day i can afford steel when its not for a paid job haha

    G’day guys, you make THE MOST AMAZING projects on TH-cam without a doubt! I became a boilermaker straight from school and have learned machining reasonably well. I make a lot of things in my shed, but you guys are on another level! I am ALWAYS totally amazed. Shows that you need more than the actual metal skills to be really good at ‘metalwork’. Really really good!
    I watch a lot of sites like yours, but none really compare.
    Quick questions now that I’ve stopped with the hero worship, lol, Are you worried the bearings will quickly were the groove as they are much harder. Is there a reason you didn’t use pillow blocks or linear bearing cylinders? - I prefer your make it yourself so I’m not being critical, just curious.
    I’m just an old disabled pensioner in Australia now, but I’m still going to see if I can support you somehow, seems fair since I get so much enjoyment from your work. The videos could be a little more frequent though, you tend to ‘disappear’ occasionally. I’ve been watching since your “Extreme Pipe Notcher” Got me hooked immediately!
    Anyways, all the best mate. 🍻 Michael

      I can't help but think, given the time taken to knock that up and the resultant flex you could see on the cutter in one of the shots...
      It probably would have been quicker to mount two motors on the x and y wheels and just bolt a cutter into the tool post.
      I guess I only think so because for me it's trivial to control a couple of steppers.
      To each their own.

    Nice build, however, something has me puzzled:
    Why did you make it so that you can indicate the plunger in various angles while it can only be used effectively when the tool is aligned with the feed direction of the cross slide? Wouldn't it be easier to have it fixed and indicate the position by indexing the part itself with the spindle?

One question that I'd like to know the answer; I use similar tooling to yours, but what ever I do I end up with relentless birds nests of continuous unbroken swarf, very unlike your easily manageable fragmented swarf. Is it the inserts that you're using, or the speed as well? Out of interest what are your choice of speeds and insert?
