Muc-Off Pressure Washer Review - OMG! Did We Kill This Bike? No, It's Totally Fine.

  • With a relatively compact size and weight of less than seven pounds, the Muc-Off Pressure Washer is a small yet powerful enough unit that will handle your dirtiest adventures on two wheels. While it’s certainly lower pressure than other options you’d find at Home Depot from tool brands like Ryobi and the like, those lower pressure numbers help ensure a careless or distracted user won’t do too much damage to the bike. If you want something to power wash your driveway or deck, as well as wash your bike, the Muc-Off Pressure Washer will get it done, it just may take a little more time on your home projects than a 2,000PSI washer.
    We realize home chores aren’t what this bike-specific pressure washer was designed for, it was specifically designed for washing bikes, however we realize many people may not want to own two such units and take up that valuable extra space in the garage. When it comes to washing our bikes, the washer has just enough pressure to knock dried and crusted up mud and rinse away debris without stripping the paint. When it comes to using a pressure washer on your bicycle, care should be used when aiming in crevices, bearings and other sealed areas. That being said, if you live in an area where you regularly encounter nasty conditions or you just love having a showroom clean bike, the Muc-Off Pressure Washer and Cleaning Kit is something that we absolutely love and use regularly. The benefit of buying the kit is worth it as you get a nice case that holds the power washer plus your soap, towels, brushes, and other accessories that come in the kit and would likely add up to being more if bought individually. Plus, if your bike is only moderately dirty or dusty, you can just use the soap from the spray bottle and wash it the old fashioned way for touch ups between heavy duty washes. It may sound silly, but our crew has infinitely more fun washing our bike with the Muc-Off power washer, which means we’re caring for and maintaining our bikes more than if we didn’t have it - after all a clean bike is a happy bike.

    So at the start we see a dirty bike but you then proceed to test it on what looks like a clean bike, makes little sense.

    The concentrate is ment to be mixed up with 1 parts of concentrate and 3 parts of water before using it in the pressure washer

    I got a Worx battery powered option with a suction hose. Super convenient as you can just throw it in the trunk with a jerry-can full of water and you can use it anywhere even without a source of water.

    • @TheLoamWolf
      @TheLoamWolf  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Right on. We used to have a similar battery powered one as well and while it's great for using on the road or washing a filthy bike before putting it in the van to come home, we don't think it would work on a truly dried and muddy bike like these.

  • @mynock250
    @mynock250 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Not sure, did you check the wheel bearings. That specific muc off cleaner has been known to easily remove the grease from bearings. The pressure washing was very low pressure so no issue with that, but the bearings in the wheels no bueno.

    My LBS has one of these and did a demo in the parking lot. Worked really well. I use muc off bike wash but I go through that stuff like crazy. I bought a gallon of concentrate last time instead of the small spray bottle.

    • @TheLoamWolf
      @TheLoamWolf  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh nice! Yeah going with the concentrate is definitely the way to go if you're burning through it a lot! Keep supporting that local shop! but if they're ever out of stock, try using LOAMWOLF15 at the link above as you may get 15% off on qualifying refills of Muc-Off, and other product at competitivecyclist.

  • @khai6101
    @khai6101 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    It's a neat setup for sure - but I wonder how fast one would burn though that bottle of concentrate? I use Muc Off in the manual spray bottle and try not to use too much. I might get better/faster results if I was more liberal with it, but that snow cannon (while cool) seems like it would burn through that bottle in no time flat!

    • @TheLoamWolf
      @TheLoamWolf  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It lasts surprisingly well. The other option is, dilute the mixture even more and stretch it further. It's plenty strong enough so you'd be fine watering it down a bit. In our experience, it lasts way longer than the spray bottles we use!! By a lot.

      @@TheLoamWolf That's good to know! I picked up a similar device years ago that has a water tank and runs off a rechargeable battery or the 12v vehicle cigarette lighter - fantastic for hosing off a muddy bike at the trailhead before bringing it home. :)

    • @daibhiseaghdha153
      @daibhiseaghdha153 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      the bike manufacturer must know better, how about just a water hose supply, with a spray nozzle instead, at a safe distance.those cleaner chemicals, more than likely dissolve the lubricants, which is not good.

      Well, i used muc-off on my black Rockshox Pike, they are now gray...Since then i started to use "Grumme tvättsåpa" instead on my bike, works wonders, it's made out of "Tall oil"/"liquid rosin"/"pine oil"-soap or whatever it's called in english, works wonders, especially on the drivetrain; it gets superclean

    I thought high water pressure is exactly what you should not be doing to your bearings

    • @Jeppelelle
      @Jeppelelle 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Old myth that for some reason lives on, GCN tested this, they had to aim straight on the bearing from 1 inch away for 3 minutes straight before they even saw any evidence of water ingress and who cleans their bike like that? Also, that myth made very little sense to begin with, its not like if i turn on my pressure washer here in Sweden & aim towards China some poor fella will get dosed with high pressure water in their face, so somewhere between Sweden & China the pressure will have reduced to garden hose levels & that is within meters, so just take a step back. Also, alot of washers have adjustable nozzles so just use the one that is not a pointy stream of water when cleaning near the bearings

    • @TheLoamWolf
      @TheLoamWolf  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      As long as you are conscious of what you're doing and pay attention to the angles at which you spray and don't focus the full stream/power right into seals, you'll be fine! Less harm than putting the bike on a bike rack and driving down the freeway at 70mph in a rainstorm!

    • @shardlake
      @shardlake 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Jeppelelle Agreed I have the K2 with foam attachment and vario lance, that you can turn the power right down, if you already own a Karcher getting those 2 attachments is a cheaper option than buying a bike specific unit.
