      *I'm likely much older than the typical viewer here so it's a big brain shift. Everything used to come easily to me but apparently more patience & practice required now. Learned wire weaving & later micro macrame before the friendship type of knotting. I guess segment knotting was my technique & is still preferred. Excited about the creative possibilities of converting BB patterns now. Thanks for your help! Love & hugs from the US ❤️

    • @Lexi_Con
      @Lexi_Con 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm still a bit nervous about more complex designs though - afraid I will screw up the color order later in the pattern. To clarify, I understand about color shifts, but some designs aren't conducive to consistent placement, if that makes sense. Hopefully the variation tab on BB will help with that - I didn't know what I didn't know! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    I self taught myself to make the chevron back when I first started making bracelets and I've never done it the way this pattern shows! I would pick 4 colors and cut 2 strings of each color. Then I would tie them all together in a knot and arrange them in a mirror image pattern. For example, I'd do blue, purple, pink, yellow on the left, and then yellow, pink, purple, blue on the right side. Then starting on the left with the blue, I'd do forward knots on the purple, pink, and yellow, and then stop and go to the right side starting with blue and make backward knots until it met in the middle and then a forward or backward knot on the two blue strings to pull them together. Then move on to the next color and do the same thing! It turned out great but I never realized until just now that that wasn't the actual pattern lol! But back then I had no idea that patterns even existed! I was like 8 yrs old! I guess I was segment knotting and didn't even realize it!

    Oh my goodness, thanks for this video! I just found friendship-bracelets.net a few weeks ago when I was looking for more complicated patterns than the chevrons I knew... And BraceletBook is so much easier to use! I love how interactive the patterns are, and how everything is interlinked, and you can make variations... I had been downloading the patterns to my computer and manually changing the colours in an image editor! Plus, there are patterns with gaps in them, which is what I had been looking for in the first place. I'm so excited!

      This will definitely get better with practice and yes using the same tension will help a lot too. I try to make my knots as tight as possible. It makes stiff bracelets (they aren’t very floppy) but it helps a lot with them looking consistent. Also, masha has posted a video on a technique she uses to help keep the edges of her bracelets straight if you’d like to check that out and maybe give it a shot. I personally don’t use the technique because i find uniform tension to be enough for me, but it might help you out. Hope this helped at least a little!

    Apparently, when I try and follow you I end up being completely off. It's really hard for me and I don't know why. I've been doing this for about 2 years and never have been able to do a pattern or alpha.

    I know this is really old, but I was wondering, can every bracelet be done in the row by row method? I feel like I'd mess something up doing the segment knotting because I still don't quite understand it.

    I have a question... if you do row by row method, how do you fix the top of the bracelet after you've finished? like what do you do with the strings at the top above the tape?

    Often when I work with a normal pattern my knots don’t fit well into the row above. There is a bit of string (an anchor thread) and then the knot. How can I fix this?

    • @MashaKnots
      @MashaKnots  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The knot itself consists of two parts: the first one positions the knot, the second secures it in place. What you’re describing should be fixed by doing the first half of the knot tighter, positioning it closer to the row above. The second knot will secure that in place

    • @tobyross9731
      @tobyross9731 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MashaKnots Thank you so much for replying. I have tried that but the knot still seems to want to slip of position...especially at the far left and far right of the bracelet. The centre seems to work perfectly. I will try pulling the first part of the knot even tighter and see if that does the trick.

    What would you consider this method as? I see the first orange v and I make that then I make the yellow v and so on! What method is that considered? And how should I apply this to other patterns I’m interested in. (Sorry I’m a beginner!)
