Shapeshift choice: Raven. Flight, wide range of food options, and corvids are intelligent so I could communicate with and get detailed information from similar birds.
Loving that thumbnail whoever did the work on the beast has some serious talent.
Strangely enough I’ve had reoccurring dreams of turning into a werewolf-like beast and attacking people trying to hurt me (robbers, pervs, serial killers, ect) ever since probably middle school.
My option of shape-shift living animals around today: wolf

I would love to shape shift in a wolf. I know cliche but I really love wolves they are amazing, and beautiful they can have two different sides to them one is calm and the other is powerful.

Sounds like one of the wolves visited OP in his dreams, the fear someone gives off it fuels their lust for the hunt. So, if you had marks like those it means they want you to remember you're not ever safe not in your dreams nor awake.

Well she woke me up at about 2 am , our rooms are on the top floor , she stayed by the doorway and told me she wanted me to walk her to the bathroom. I said okay and as I got up she turned and went toward the staircase when I got to the stairs I noticed the lights were still off, which was odd cuz she is terrified of the dark. I walked down and all the lights were off, she wasnt down there, came back up and she was fast asleep, so I thought maybe I was groggy and dreamt it. The next day I asked her about it and she said she didn't get up, what bothered me about it was that my husband at the time said" What? I heard her come in and ask then you got up" so I knew it happened. It only became more relevant for me when my oldest two days later freaked out saying my eight year old was jumping In the living room and when she yelled for her watched her run under the dinning room table. She followed her and she wasn't in there. She had been watching TV in her room. Plus some things my other child told me. So I dont know replica? Ghost? Glitch, who knows.

If I could shapeshift into any animal, my initial thought would be something like a snow leopard, or black panther, some kind of big cat..... But.... then I thought about the animal that a certain Untitled game proved is the single most dominant creature to ever live.... and for that reason, I'm going to have to go with a Goose.

So an octopus can change their shape even it's skin color and texture to hide from predators. I've seen video of one turn from a normal red 8 tentacles to a green algae covered rock. Algae texture and all. Anyway does that make them a shape shifter? Or just master's of camouflage?

My eyes naturally go in different directions and I had to have vision therapy* to make them work together. I guess it's different for chameleons because they're meant to do that, but I think it would still be annoying.
Personally I would shapeshift into a frog so I could save a ton of money on a pool by getting a toddler size one while still having plenty of room to swim.
*Like physical therapy for eyes. Lots of reading with weird lenses and finding hidden pictures.
I was going to say that the large black cat sounds like a panther (far outside of its habitat, granted), but the description of the "light from within" is very familiar. When my brother & I were kids we knew a boy who, long story short, was possessed and his eyes had a very particular color of yellow with an inner glow. That's not something that you forget.

My shape-shifting options:
Modernly living during the time humans existed - short faced bear or dire wolf
Ancient - largest pterosaur named after quezalqualtal (probably spelling it wrong), or something similar to a T-rex.
Mythical - dragon.
Wanna be a big predator, that humans can't kill as easily.....
Not to much into the wolf man or dog man where wolf's , I'm more of SASQUCH BIG FOOT HAIRY MAN ,only because I lived up in Northern California in the mid 80's this older gentlemen told me a story about a Hairy people as he called them. I didn't even know until year's later TH-cam came out and saw heard stories similar to what the old man told me he lived out in the middle of miles from the nearest town he had no cable T.V. he had T.V. but limited stations. Radio is what most people listen to. That's why I relate more to those stories. All the hiking camping trips I been on with my brother's. I think twice about going now. How nyeve I was back then.

I understand as a shapeshifter a creature that can change its body in any form at will. This would be pretty cool, if it would allow me to heal wounds, or change my face.
If I had to chose one animal which I could transform into, it would be a bird, possibly a raven (few enemies, very inconspicuous, unlike an eagle or owl). That is obviously assuming that I could change my weight class, but that ability opens a rabbit hole of its own...
If I had to maintain my weight class, birds are out of question, even the gliding dinosaurs AFAIK. I could be a Panther (though heavy for a leopard, or average for a jaguar) or some kind of fish. None of it would be too compelling... Sure, both would grant me mobility I could only otherwise dream of, but it would put a big target on my back...
