    Great job David. I think I need to tweak my hook position like you’re doing, but definitely like the half hitches. Thanks for sharing.

      It's helps your hook up ratio for sure.

    I see your leaders are around 18 inches long. Do you feel a leader that is 30-40 inches could be no long? What is the idea length?
    Great Video

      The way I rig herring there is no need to have a long leader. 12 inches is fine. If you're going to use whole herring or squid and you're using half hitches then I would suggest 18 inches. There's really no reason for a long leader. Sturgeon don't mind chewing on bait with a piece of lead nearby.

    Great video! I see you have the Reactor 40 Kicker autopilot. I’m looking to adding that to my boat this spring. How do you like it so far? Did you do the install yourself of have it done at a shop? Thanks!

      I'm going to do a video on Reactor 40 soon. It's an awesome tool. Had it installed at Portland Marine Electronics.

    Would you recommend adding any type of scents or keep it natural?

      I usually put Bloody tuna on herring but lately I've mostly used it without scent. With squid I don't usually put scent on. I don't think scent can hurt... Sturgeon are following a scent trail to your bait.

    What kind of swivel are you using for the weight?

    • @DavidPyle
      @DavidPyle  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My terminal gear is two bead chains held together with a split ring. The weight dropper attaches to the split ring. This setup keeps my main line from "spinning" and "curling".

    What rods are you using

    • @DavidPyle
      @DavidPyle  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Shimano Trevala and Ugly stick. You can use a heavy salmon rod (8-9 foot). I did that for years and never had a problem.
