+H0ll0w360 the xbox is updated to nearly the same as the pc maybe one update at most behind so the method he showed will work since the hooks are in game only thing different is you have to hold B to attack target while having the spyglass out so i recommend putting the spyglass in a quick slot such as the D pad down, up, left or right as the other quick slots would be more time consuming with having to already hold B to issue the command

Or now with the addition of extinction fly just above the quetzal and freeze with the owl. The quetzal will fall and even walk around on the ground for a bit after thawing, allowing you to quickly lay some dino gates down on top of it

When you're hanging from your bird, try to reel out a bit more line. then use a parachute to avoid a lot of spazzing when your bird is chasing it. Works like a charm. :-)

same here but i was taming a rex and lost a 180 rex which was genna get +60 lvl cause i starved it and then gave it kibble lost the rex and about 80 kibble
I knocked mine out by a stream next to the redwood forest. Long story short, it landed right in the center of a fight between hyenadons and terror birds. It died.

Good stuff. Been playing a lot of single player ark recently and loving it. I tried this for the first time tonight and got a level 8 quetz down! With the new group commands its even easier because I can actually whistle the argent(which I had alone in group#5) to move towards a specific area as well. This helps a lot when you lose a quetzal in the trees or if it goes out of range of your spyglass cause you were too busy trying to get that 2nd shot off!

I finally tamed a quetzal solo. Crossbow and Grappling hook, parachute, high level argentavis. Had some arrows, water bottle, bullets for the long rifle, 90 stacks of cooked food, fur armor for warmth, some meat for the argent and 58 kibble. I saw a low level 20 quetz, i had 50 tranqs. used up 32 darts, i hit my bird few times. Once on the ground i had to later kill one saber, one rapter, an argent that attacked it. And again killed 2 sabers and argent, and scorpion that were too close. I could not place spkes due to its PvE and too close to enemy structures. I put color code stickers on my key board on = (equals, attack this target) and ; (semicolon, passive) so i can quickly find the buttons. It was my third attempt. first i fell to my death, second i lost the quetzal on different days. The hard part was protecting the quetzal more than taking it down. Once it came down i was nervous as heck trying to protect it; cause i did not want to fail.

3:55 you can tell the bird to attack it, then when you get closer to it, put it on passive, then shoot the sleeping darts at it, or arrows

This still works, just got one tonight full solo! I tried the scorpion method weeks ago and just couldn't get one down even though the scorpion had a high damage percentage. Thx for the great video (though I would have killed the scorpion and raptor at the end with the Argy, then they won't come back)

The hitboxes in this game absolutely suck.
Yea watching people play online I've seen so many times where I go "Um, what's the firing arc of that gun, any closer and you might as well use a thermometer..."
The hit boxes are 100% fine on most of the dinosaurs. Dimorphodons are the only ones that seem off. The rest of the time you need to account for projectile speed, drop, range, etc. It's not hard to do.
SouskueMadara That's inaccurate. I can't tell you how many times I hit the dino but don't get the hitmarker authorization from the server.

I'm super late on this reply to your video. But I managed to reel myself in with method 4 (or 5 idr) but the trick was reloading the hook. I did some field testing on my solo profile and I found out you can reload quick enough to grapple the argent before falling too far away. Takes some practice to do but it's possible and if you manage to bounce off the wing to get a little bit more air time you have enough time for a second shot if you miss. As always I prepared by taking parachutes, spy glass, extra tranquil darts etc etc. it's been over a year since I got my first quetzal and just today I grabbed my first female quetz (after quitting for a few months). Takes practice but I was proud of getting it without cheating. Great guide man.

That's how I got one of my Quetzals, my scorpion just kept killing them so I tried the method of jumping off onto its wings back before it was patched and it DID work. I had an argy follow me. After that point it's easy to solo tame future ones because you can always build a quetzal cage on your current one.

This is cool. I recently solo tamed a lvl 64 quetz using tranq darts fired from the ground. I used light attacks from a fast, low level ptera to "encourage" the quetz to fly closer to the ground, then tranq, chase, bite from above, get in front of it, land, fire again. The issue with missing long shots comes about from the tranq darts having a much longer travel time than bullets rather than too short a range. Leading a distant target will help (ie, fire at where it's going to be, not where it is. judging this takes practice.)
I have this tame saved as a highlight on twitch as I was streaming at the time, but I could upload it to youtube too if any wants to see it :)

+nooblets.com wasn't luck! it was up waaay to high when I found it but I chased it lower with pecks froma weak ptera. because they're passive it just kept running away. after 5 minutes I'd forced it close enough to the ground to tranq it out fairly easily. Uploading it now, you'll see what I mean.
There's one strategy that worked for me 2 / 2 times: board front seat on tapejara and command it to attack the quetz through a spyglass and when it gets close to the quetz,command it to be on passive and shoot the quetz,and repeat until it gets down. Basically,the same thing as with the grappling hook+argent but with more accuracy
This totally worked today :D was intimidated cuz of being solo but got my quetzal :D

On single player I actually used that method of Argi+Scorpion to tame it after the nerf. It was a pretty low level one, but I managed to do it successfully :).

On number five you have to have your bird set to attack target so when you shoot it it will chase it and then you can just do whistle passive

So I solo tamed a Quetz with the Grapple on the Argen idea on Primitive Plus, just had to have a spyglass as well to look at the Quetz and whistle "Attack this target" and the Argen would chase after it, then when you get close, you just whistle "Passive", rinse and repeat
FYI, idk if it's changed but last I played darts have a slow travel time and also bullet drop similar to arrows from a bow/crossbow.
The Parachute Method works. Nowadays, using a Grappling Hook is the best option, but they are relatively new items (v245). If you want to get a feel of the old days, give it a try.
There are a lot of videos, but the one I remember features PeteZahHutt. As stated in the video, jump near the Quetzal and don't shot it from afar. Wait to see if it flies back to you, and if not, get back on your mount and repeat.

Make a box on the back of a quetzal (if you already have one) out of thatch. Leave the back open. Shoot the wild quetzal to make it fly away and quickly fly in front of it so it flies into the box and you can knock it out and tame while in the air :) I've done this many times

You need a Argentavis. Carry with him your team mate.
best way I have found is to use a wyvern and follow the quetz then when you get close you can dismount the wyvern and you stay on its back and then shoot the quetz then remount and repeat.

I personally had success on xbox one with the scorpion and bird method post nerf but it took about an hour and was very finicky and frustrating
IF you are using the mod Annunaki Genesis, I find the best way to do it is to tame a lower level Poison Pteranodon, then chase down the Quetzal. Poison creatures in that mod are usually Green and some yellow, and they inflict a good amount of Torpor. Also, if you throw all your points into Melee damage, it will inflict more! I got mine up to over 2k% Melee damage (adjusted % given per level to 20% each level) and it can 2 shot knock out a Giga.

Here's my method: first of all you need to tame a tapejara. After you've done that be sure it has a saddle. Then you'll take the tapajara and take it to the quetzal you want to tame. Land it and get off. Go to the front passenger seat and tell it to attack the quetzal. There speed is almost the same so It will only hit the quetzal 2 or 3 times. While being on the front seat you're allowed to pull out a gun. Pull out your rifle and start shooting the quetz. Lower level quetzals are easier to tame so try taming a low level then try taming a high level with the quetz you already tamed. Hope this helped anyone

Guys, this no longer works. And the newer 2017 strategy that is using the tapejara is also patched.
He signed off the parachute strategy as something that doesn't work, but he was doing it wrong. It is now the only one that works as of now, if you don't already have a quetzal.
You need to have around two argentavises set to follow to pick you up as you glide down.
After it picked you up, fly over the quetzal again, and parachute down and tranq it some more.
Unless you have a ballista mounted to the back of a quetzal platform saddle, this is the only method that works as of now.

I have used this method successfully however I have one peice of advice I learned the hard way. Instead of pressing the key for passive when your argy is close, press the U key which will stop the argy from attacking. The difference is if your argy slams you into a cliff side while chasing the Quetz and you die your argy will be on neutral and will defend itself until you return. If you used the passive key previously your argy will sit there and can be killed. I lost a good argy that way.

A much better way is to sit on the front seat of a tapejara and whistle it attack, its slightly faster then a questzal so you just occasionally whistle passive whilst all the while shooting it
Historians now say this bird did not fly much. Wing span was not enough for it's size. I guess you can't tell a penguin to fly either lol. They are claiming this bird was almost flightless, but used it's head and long beak. So i guess it was good at ground combat, and it's size was a scary factor.

you cant tame a quetz with something smaller than a Compy Scorp is Way Better than a Trodon

That scorpion method still works I have knocked out 4 quetzals with it and it still works just fine

Equals key is "attack my target". So alternate Semicolon (passive), And equals (attack my target). Thus avoiding having to pull out the spyglass.
I don't think that will work as 'attack my target' is defined as "They will terminate their current attacks and will defend themselves if they are attacked, but will prioritize attacking whatever you attack.". 'Attack This Target' might work as it is defined as "All dinosaurs within a certain radius will attack whatever target you are looking at" but.. a Quetzal typically flies out of range pretty fast so I think you would still have to use the spyglass.
You don't need the spyglass to do this, you can whistle the argy w/o it. The way I do it is right after I take aim with my longneck, I hit whistle attack this target a fraction of second before I shoot. That way the dart finds its mark and the argy is already on the way so you waste less time and the Quetz's torpor doesn't go back down as much.
oh and also to start the process, better to land first and hook yourself to the chest of your argy then use the spyglass to whislte attack for the 1st time. After, adjust the length of your cable to a healthy distance and off you go.
I only play on Hardcore pvp and I tamed many quetz using this method.

In my ark world are at the red Tower 5-7quetzal i have Tamed Two of them it is very nice to Farm Metal with it
scorp method used to work really well for me. i tamed at least a dozen that way with high level scorps. now i come back after not playing for months and the scorp wont attack anything while its carried
It will, but the radius is seriously nerfed. Downed 3 pteras this way before bolas were added.
Yeah it used to be the best way imo, but Wildcard hates solo players, unfortunately.
I believe they nerfed the damage and attack radius of scorpions because of how dangerous they were to new players.
Nonetheless, yes, they don't like solo players.
I don't like to play alone as well, but finding a good group to play with is even harder most of the time.

By west 2 there is a common quetzal spawn point where a titanosaur can reach with a platform saddle thats how I did it
For the grapple hook, try targeting it with the argy then shoot it
Just a BTW narc darts drop over a distance like an arrow, from the way you were aiming at it from the difference it looked like you didnt know this.

An extra tip, if you deploy a parachute whilst being grappled to your bird it takes a little of the jittery-ness away. It was easier for me to do it scorpion method, high level scorp only leveled in melee, and a high level bird with awesome speed worked the best on a lvl 16 quetz. On Xbox. Awesome vid as usual.

Fred Gamer If you are on an singleplayer world. 1. Get another controller and join with splitscreen 2. Grab ur friend with L2 on ur controller and fly to the quetzel 3. Make sure ur friend has Tranq arrows and a bow/crossbow and bam. You fly Towards him while ur friend shoots. Hope it helped

Keep in mind that some arrows have a tendency to glitch into your own Pteranodon therefore costing you a bunch of arrows. I'd suggest make around 50+ to compensate for this annoying glitch.
(If you didn’t hear that part) you can find them at the island flying around the snow mountain with the beam or at a random desert
They are often found next to high or places with a cliff
i’ve only ever seen one quetzal in 2 years playing and i saw it for 7 seconds and it despawned
