Regarding the sprint, I only go off the distance counter at the top. I think it is impossible to judge the distance from looking at the map or ahead. My experience shows that people tend to start sprinting somewhere between the 300m and 200m mark. Depends on how long you can hold your sprint.

I’m a long sprinter! I need to keep a closer eye on the counter and figure out what distance suits me 👍

@@tillyonabike Cat A races, especially strong cat A races, tend to feature many long sprinters, and they start an acceleration at 400m to go or so. Mind you, that acceleration is enough to be a full sprint for many, but these riders will have a second kick with 150m to go, usually above 900 W until the end. It can also change from race to race depending on the course. For example, any race that finishes in the sprint inside the volcano, as there's a 5% ramp that gets you to 400m to go, and then a couple of 2% inclines during the final 200m, which makes it very tough and it's usually better for 1-minute pulls.

I just stumbled across your channel. I'm loving seeing these Tiny Races...without having to go through that pain myself 😂. And I agree...that whirly curve climb is pure hell. I don't know why, but my avatar always seems to get stuck on the outside and lose all sorts of positions. So annoying.

Super strong Tilly! Best "try hard" face in the game.

I'm pretty sure it's also best 'psycho-killer'-face as well. I hope my suffering would look like that as well, i look just miserable.

Starting slingshot from about 400m out helps with final position. Good race still.

Just so you know, there is just about the same draft benefit being close to the back of a pack as in the middle-I use Sauce for Zwift so can see the draft number. Yes, your sprint should be winding up around 400-300 metres to have a chance of chasing anyone down.

I find that climb far harder than the distance / gradient would suggest too.

wanting to actually commit to proper training next year for several reasons ... would you say zwift is a good way to train like could i swap sessions out for zwift racing?

Sweetspot/FTP work is something in which Zwift races work quite well. All are pretty much the same, 20-60minutes of sweetspot no matter the format. There might be one harder effort with early breakaway with longer races, but things settle in sweetspot. Shorter ones, like 20minute crits, are pretty much steady effort in one big blob and things tend to get heated in 1km mark.
If you are in higher end of your grade and race to win (=hang in mid-pack and sprint for finish with fresh legs) then you might race too easy for it to benefit your fitness, but if you race hard and don't shy away from pulling the group at times you will get good training.
If you are at lower end of your grade (or race in higher grade) and you might just struggle to hang in the group, so you surely will get good training effect.
Only sprint distances are more intense, but there you don't accumulate enough time on one go to make real gains. What Tilly does here, is to race several in row which does provide good training effect.

If you'd want an even harder workout, then you should join at 10am CET (half of the a cat is actually A+ 🥵)

How do you find your 1 min max power or 5 or 20 min power? Is it on Strava or somewhere in zwift?

I know so many people who use exercise bikes and cannot ride a real pushbike for more than a mile .
The difference is day and night.
You want real exercise, get a real bike
