One of the first and greatest records of all extreme metal. Death metal, a bit of thrash metal and even black metal may be heard here. Seminal influence in the extreme records until today!
@@LouisWinthorpe622 Yes, sure, derivative of death metal and black metal before those even existed, right. As it was said, and many old-school bands will confirm, Sepultura was at the forefront of extreme metal with their first albums and had a seminal influence on later death metal and black metal outputs, before they went on to play their own style of death-tinged thrash metal, then groove metal, then nu-metal. Hugely classic and influential band, there's no denying it.
@@YannickTMessiah Wake-surfers and bandwagon jumpers IOW. Fairly early ones, I grant you. And a lot of people, who ended up in later metal bands, would have been buying and listening to their albums, I grant you that. Same as I was (only without going on to join in any metal band). But any 'influences' that they took from Sepultura would be the 2nd hand influences of Slayer, Metallica, Celtic Frost, Bathory, Venom, Possessed and Motorhead. The same could be said of anyone who took influences from any of Sepultura actual peers; bands such as Kreator, Destruction, Sodom, Coroner, Voivod and Overkill; other 2nd Division Blackened / bestial / Thrash bands, not all that much different from Sepultura, in other words. Which doesn't make them bad sounding bands. They weren't. They were all great. And it doesn't make taking influence from those bands a bad thing, either. It wasn't. But I looked up 'seminal' in the dictionary. It said "highly original and influencing the development of future events". So, to call them 'seminal' is only half-right because 'highly original' they, most certainly, were not. A very good, quite early, band from a burgeoning (quickly growing and developing) scene, is what they were. One of the most popular bands of that 2nd division, that came along, following in the footsteps of the true innovators, I mentioned above, too. But fanboys are gonna fanboy and white knights are gonna white knight, I suppose, but I don't believe in revising history. I think that shit, is wrong and I think you've got your timeline mixed up. Either that or you are mistaking 'popularity' and record sales with 'influence'. They never innovated, greatly, or took any genre into brave, new, directions. Not like the bands I listed, who did. Great followers of fashions and trends, is what they were. And a great blackened Thrash band, too. By Chaos A.D. they were trying to copy other, older, Thrash bands by trying to make-believe that they had huge punk/ hardcore influences and incorporating a little of that sound into the music. But Metal bands trying to associate with Punk bands is such a pose and cliché. I hate it. It's sad as fuck. Parodied beautifully by the character 'Colin Grigson' of the spoof band Bad News, in the mock rockumentary 'Bad News On Tour', when he flicked his hair and said to an interviewer "Oh yes, well, I shacked up with punks for a while... Dyed my hair all sorts of weird colours". Metal bands should be Metal bands and stand on their own 2 feet being that! Say you like some punk music, if you like, but don't try and gain credibility by courting the image, or trying to create the false impression that you are a little bit Punk. They even got terminal collaborator-for-hire, Jello Biafra, to do a little skit on Chaos A.D., probably hoping a little bit of punk credibility and coolness would rub off on them; like I say: pure sad as fuck! Metal is better than punk. That's why you're in a Metal band, not a Punk band, Max. And that's why your previous 4 albums were Thrash METAL albums, Max, with no hint of punk rock in sight. I've enjoyed some of it, here and there, like The Stooges and, later, The Hives but let's face it: Punk rock is deliberately a bit simplistic, basic and kinda 'dumb'. Not as dumb as a Metalhead who's trying to show he is also a little bit 'punk', though, as well. When they started to follow and chase the shittier trend of Nu-metal, on Roots, just before the great, manager-pumped-up, big-headed, super-ego that is Max Cavalera, fucked off to, basically, pursue his solo career (because, let's face it, that's what shitty Nu-Metal band, Soulfly, basically was), that's when they turned to complete shit, for me, and I never really listened to them, much, after that, until they made Kairos and Quadra, which are both great (and much better than most Punk and Hardcore, I might add). Sepultura were never great innovators, of any kind. They were like The Borg of Thrash, in that, they would assimilated outside influence, into their own sound, quite well sometimes (Overkill incorporating Pantera influences, when they made Horrorscope, is another great example of this).
@@YannickTMessiah P.S. It's completely impossible for something to derive from something which doesn't exist. What, I believe, you are referring to is the process of 'one-upmanship' that has always existed in Metal and has driven the evolution of more and more extreme music, over time. Sometimes yielding a quantum-leap forward by bands like Chuck Schuldiner's 'Death'. The 1st Sepultura works and the vocal style employed, were not derived from later albums, the existence of which, no one had any awareness of. They were derived from the styles employed by earlier bands AND putting a little spin, on that, of your own. Then Chuck, Kam Lee, Chris Barnes, Lee Dorian, LG Petrov, etc. decided that they wanted to be more brutal / guttural than Max. Simples. But Sepultura music was, in no way, derived by what hadn't appeared yet. The very notion of that is preposterous.

Pq o tempo passa e o mercado muda hehehehe.
Porque Sepultura e Cavalera sao projetos registados diferentes. Cavalera sao os antigos Sepultura e Sepultura sao uma banda para criancas fanboys do eloy.

The very notion of that is preposterous.

this is the SEPULTURA true!!
The best Band of the metal world! Max and Igor, kills!
Yeah, this is fucking awesome! Can't wait for the full thing.
Eu só não consigo entender o pq de seja Cavalera, sepultura... Pq não seguir essa linha? Finalmente, digo finalmente um trabalho que me chamou a atenção!!! Ansioso para ouvir!!!!
Pq o tempo passa e o mercado muda hehehehe.
