Landon said it was a difficult episode because Dirk looked so much like Dan. It almost became too much for Landon emotionally. It was just a few short years since Blocker died when the episode was filmed.

A Lorne Greene appearance on LHOTP would’ve been a sure fire ratings buster. Whenever 2 iconic characters from a classic show get together years later to appear on another show, fans absolutely love it. Whatever the decision was, Michael & Lorne missed out on some nostalgic tv history.

Raja 1938 - That is exactly what I had in mind when I was watching this video.
Perhaps it's best that he didn't get the part of Starbuck, because it was Dirk Benedict's personality that was needed to continue on to become Faceman on The A Team.

    • @Raja1938
      @Raja1938 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

@@bobsradio6025 I agree he wouldn't fit the Starbuck role as well as Benedict, plus his age and career wasn't at a point where he'd be regular on that show. I'm thinking more of a guest-star for an episode or two like what Fred Astaire or Lloyd Bridges did.

When I was in second grade I went to school with Greene’s daughter Gillian. We were both about seven and I don’t remember much about her, but I do remember one day when Gillian got sick and Greene came to the school to pick her up; we kids were so excited, “did you see him? Was he there?”I actually did glimpse him talking to her and got very excited. First brush with a celebrity, it’s stuck in my memory for almost fifty years!

Wow! Mr Landon was on TV for pretty much 30 straight years! Three hit shows in a row! That’s gotta be som kind of record. It just hit me cuz I was never much of a Little House fan (Emergency! and Adam-12 were my thing, followed by all the great 70’s Sci fi such as SW and BSG, etc.) and I definitely wasn’t into Highway as a teenager (Miami Vice, etc), but I sure loved him on Bonanza. Yes, all 3 reasons make sense. I remember Michael saying it would have been too soon for them to reunite on LHOTP. I had never watched Bonanza and am just beginning to watch now (I've seen 11 episodes). I've watched Highway to Heaven multiple times, so for me, it's a backwards reunion for them....if that makes any sense.

When young Egene was discovered pumping gas for a director, the director noticed his good looks and asked him to be a fill in, in one of his movies he was producing. Eugene accepted the challenge. As time went by, it was required by the Screen Actors Guild that actors take a stage name for privacy reasons. Young Eugene there was a hit among the female audiance, so he was asked to appear in a new Western called Bonanza in 1959. Eugene again, gladly accepted the role, as he was to potray, young, hot tempered, very handsome Joe Cartwright. The producers and directors of the show itself encouraged Eugene to change his name, so, he went to the phonebook and found the name Michael. He wanted to take the last names of Lane and Douglas, however, they were already taken, so, back to the phone book he went and found the name, Landon. There you have it. I remember Fred Fusco's mooching sister & nephew (played by David L. Lander) too. They wanted Fred's money, but he had other plans in mind for it.

Dan Blocker also looked like he could've been his son as well, with different mothers it made sense, Pernell Roberts didn't look like him at all, Lorne, Dan and Michael all had the same facial/ear structure, Pernell Roberts would've made a great "Have Gun Will Travel" character, tough when need be, but very cerebral in solving problems, lol plus he already had the all black outfit

I remember watching a couple of episodes of Bonanza when I was little. It was in color and on NBC on Sunday night, I think it was on before the NBC Sunday Night Mysteries. I saw an episode on an independent station with my grandfather after I graduated from high school.
Speaking of Battlestar Galactica, there was an episode where Commander Adama, his son Apollo, Starbuck and Boomer were in the Main Street of a village that was terrorized by the Cylons. The town’s people found one of the Cylons and called it Red Eye. Red Eye took over the town. Red Eye contacted a Cylon base ship for reinforcements to destroy the town. But Red Eye and the other Cylons were to face The Galactica crew in a gunfight. Galactica won the battle and leave the planet. In an article in Famous Monsters Of Filmland, the scene of the showdown reminded the writer of the article of the Cartwright clan standing together to face the the threat.
I remember Lorne Greene in the show Last Of The Wild. A nature show created by Ivan Tors.
I remember seeing a comedy spoof called The Canadian Conspiracy. It was shown on Cinemax and it featured Lorne Greene, William Shatner, Howie Mandel and other actors who were born and raised in Canada. There was a list of many actors, producers and directors who are Canadian. Lorne Greene has a comedic moment as The Godfather of Canadian entertainers.
I remember the Alpo commercials. He worked with some beautiful and healthy dogs.

The Bonanza casts’ affection for Lorne was so real, they actually called him Dad. The greatest story Landon told about Lorne had to do with the fact Lorne wore a hairpiece and in all the years on Bonanza they’d NEVER seen him without it. In one episode Lorne had to jump off a boat into a lake. When he did, his hairpiece floated to the surface and everybody thought they’d finally see Dad without it. Lorne’s hand came up like in the end of Deliverance feeling around for it and eventually he got it before he ran out of air!

A critic once joked that Little House on the Prairie was basically Little Joe on his own with his family. And Highway to Heaven was Little Joe returning to earth after dying. With such similarities, an NBC-hyped. Bonanza reunion would have sucked the air out of a quiet family drama like Little House.

I also wonder if Greene and/or Landon felt that Michael needed a chance to be his own star in Little House and not appear to be upstaged or have his "mentor" show up on his hit show. Though I agree Greene was busy busy busy and also the "don't imply that the Bonanza world and Little House world were connected" was likely a big part of it.

I remember an Alpo commercial that Lorne did where a dog was laying down on the floor in a simulated kitchen with Lorne kneeling beside him and holding a stick. Lorne is talking directly to the audience and tells us that the dogs name is Delbert and that he is 12 years old, which is 84 years in human years. Then without missing a beat Lorne takes the stick, throws it way off camera, and yells, "get the stick, Delbert, get the stick!!"
And hot damn, Delbert took off like a shot and I almost did to. It startled the hell out of both of us. If Delbert was acting it was damn good acting, and i dont think he was actually chasing the stick as much as trying to get away from the crazy guy who threw it.
I think the intended idea was to show how youthful an old dog acted after eating Alpo, but it was seriously ambiguous.
