  • So I was in the comments of another video and I realized that a lot of people don't know about the main differences between the different versions of Zelda BOTW for the Switch & Wii U. I made a video where I tried to lay these out for everyone. Enjoy!

    Maybe your wii u gamepad is busted because the motion controls for me worked just fine, had no issues with it ever and they didn't take motion controls from the switch and port it to the wii U, it's actually the other way around as BOTW was planned to be a wii u game from the start and was ported to the switch during development to be released side by side with the wii u version. Development on botw started before the switch was even conceived.

    I’m surprised you didn’t mention the convenience of sleep mode on the switch. That was the biggest selling point for me. The ability to push one button and resume your gameplay. The Wii U version forces you to power on your console and go through the loading screens again every time you want to play Breath of the Wild. It feels outdated, like booting up your desktop just to watch TH-cam or Netflix videos when you can do the same things instantly on an iPad.

    • @RobNoireGaming
      @RobNoireGaming  3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Hey that’s a great point ! To be honest I probably just didn’t think of it - it’s a video from several years back so I don’t remember much of my thought process for it. Definitely a really nice feature on the Switch though!

      The wii u has a quick start menu

    • @kellokabana2399
      @kellokabana2399 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BigMacOrange The quick start menu simply bypasses the system’s home screen. You still have to boot up the console and load your save file each time you want to play. It takes between 20 to 25 seconds to launch from the quick start menu and another 30+ seconds to load into your save file. I tested this 10 times with Twilight Princess HD. My fastest time was 54.13 seconds. It’s not even clear if the quick start menu is actually faster. In my experience, the quick start option saves roughly 5 seconds when it works but the gamepad is also more prone to losing connection with the console when booting this way.

    I've played 50-100 hours of BOTW on Switch and probably somewhere between 200-400 hours on Wii U, all on the game pad. The Switch is better, but I don't mind the Wii U at all. The frame rate drop sucks, but it is what it is. the game is a fucking masterpiece on either platform.

    • @RobNoireGaming
      @RobNoireGaming  4 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Exactly my thoughts as well. It’s great on both platforms regardless, the Switch just being a slightly better version (like 10-15% better at most). And luckily in the three years since making this video, performance and other issues for both versions have been improved greatly.

      @@RobNoireGaming I just got a switch lite. I have BotW on wii U, and honestly i think id rather play it on the Wii u gamepad than the switch lite. The resolution isn't as good, but i love the feeling of the wii u game pad. I know it's bulky but i kinda love it for some reason hahaha, i don't know why. The switch lite feels like a portable system to me. The Wii u game pad actually has buttons, a d pad, and joy sticks that feel like actual console controller. I like that a lot. But that's my (unpopular) opinion haha. But I would probably rather play BotW on a regular switch than wii u. I mean i definitely would.

    Interesting to hear what you said about controls. As someone who played the whole game on my Wii U, but also a ton of the game on the Switch at friends and family's places, the controls (and especially the motion controls) feel much more well designed for the Wii U Gamepad. The button layout feels well designed for the Wii U twin stick layout and everything motion related is very easy to calculate when the Gamepad is very flat.
    The Switch is technically superior, but I still prefer the game on Wii U.

    The apparatus shrine you mentioned can be cheated by simply tilting it low enough to jump on it and of course without having the ball fall off and then use stasis to shoot it over to the slot. Then you go to the top corner tilted up and paraglide down. But yiu may have already known that.

    Imagine all the features Nintendo decided to cut from the wii u version that would’ve utilized the gamepad and touch screen controls because they took too long and had to release it for the switch as well. The switch is either handheld or docked and they couldn’t do both the way the wii u could. There’s no way they would’ve wanted the previous gen version to have more features than the new console so they probably scrapped so many cool ideas that would’ve utilized the two screens and the touchpad.

Back ~3 years ago when I made this video, the main difference I noticed was that the switch joycons were a lot more sensitive, picking up my movements faster & more accurately than the gamepad did. For the joycons having a mind of their own, I have experienced joycon drift which is a major pain... they definitely haven't held up well over time.
      It's completely possible that with updates, etc, it has gotten better over the years on the wiiu side, or that maybe? I was getting some kind of signal interference with the gamepad.

    I recently bought a WiiU with BotW (I have a switch with BotW as well so I played both versions). And I kid you not the game lagged when fighting a single bokoblin on the great plateau. The one in front of the tower in the large open square where there is probably the least amount of content to load. And for me this lag is just everywhere all the time. Did not experience this on my Switch. Is there something wrong with my WiiU or something...?

    You claim that it's "... not really quite the same game." However, this really isn't true. It essentially is the exact same game. There are minor differences, but to claim that it's not the same is incorrect. Also, at 5:37, you mix up the directions. It's right for swords and left for shields. Anyway, good video. You mention what the differences are in detail.

    I think you are correct I don’t think a lot of people do know the difference. I personally thought the difference was that the switch version contained more content. I’m still not sure, because I cannot afford a switch, and I do have a wee U, and a friend of mine gave me breath of wild for Wii U so I just started playing that I put about three hours into it and so far it is a great game. I am going to aim to buy a switch this Christmas season of 2024 because the word on the street, is that Nintendo Held up the release date of the switch two for 2025 so I feel like the switches are going to be dirt cheap this Christmas season and then I’m definitely buying tears of the kingdom and breath of the wild one and two for switch I’m so excited unless I get one cheaper off marketplace first which I have found a few good deals on marketplace but they’re in bad areas of town and I just don’t really trust it something tells me not to trust those ones.

      The WiiU version is very solid and just as fun in it's own right, most things like performance issues, etc, were patched out over the years as well. Thankfully the content between the two versions is the same - if you like it and manage to get your hands on a Switch, TOTK is definitely worth playing as well, although I wouldn't personally recommend playing them back to back as they're extremely similar, especially at the start.
