Hi! Thank you, your tutorial is very clear! Do you know if original r4 cards can (or can't) support micro sd over 4 gb? I tried using my r4 revolution (no wifi, so I think it's one of the first models) with a 16 gb micro sd in my ds lite but It's not working
Hey no problem, in this guide I'm using a 16GB card. They can go up to 32GB just make sure your card is correctly formatted and is working properly. Idk why but I have 2 of the same brand 16GB cards (Lexar) and one works and the other doesn't even thought I formatted it with Aomei partition manager. I feel like this a card issue of some sort even tried cleaning the contacts but the R4 doesn't like the card. Hope this helps.

I have a R4 Card (4GB) on my DS Lite, is it possible to play DSi Enhanced games on it? i tried Pokémon Black & White 1 & 2, and Sonic Classic Collection and none of them worked, i searched on google and it says i can play DSi Enhanced games on DS Lite, but it didnt works, i also tried a diferent site to download the roms and still didn't worked, what i do?
Thanks for the video! I do have another issue though. When I insert the card it doesn't even show up. It's like I have nothing in there. What could be the cause of that? I updated my nintendo ten years ago and with that the r4 card stopped working and here I am many years later with no solution :D

only issue i really have with stock firmware is that it carries the timebomb on some cards. mine had one for 2024, bought it in 2019. ysmenu firmware is a great work around.

Man I miss my original Acekard 2 came with my NDS Lite back in 2009 I throw it on trash as kid because I dont have sd card back then and the Acekard 2 logo wont appear. I wish I could genuine get another real copy of it this days.

Common issue is that the files aren't correct for your card, or your SD card isn't properly formatted or corrupt. This issue has come across to me multiple times in the past and these are the main reasons.

Hey yes it can if you set it up with TWilight Menu, mind you if you don't own an R4 card you should buy one of the Smart Update R4 cards.

I found a few old cards including this r4 card, the ace kard 2i and the m3 Ds simply, and tried those out but realised eventually my Microsd was way too big, 128GB 😅
I do have a Ds lite but it has issues with its Wi-Fi card and has an error message when opening apps, might fix that in the future and try it?
No this card is only for the NDS/NDSL there are multiple cards however which the AceKard is one of them that works in every DS family device

I've never experienced this, thought I'd leave it for someone else but only thing I can think is the firmware is reading off the SD card properly.

Honestly to save the hassle you should get the newest 2022/23 model card for under $10 there's no true benefit to this one. In regards to files, I shared a site in Discord that has most of the files for older cards as well.
My ds loads up the card but it says to select rom, when i do it just goes to a screen that says 196% and the time in the corner

Hey there's a little sun icon at the main menu of your DS Lite on the bottom left of the screen. Tap it, you can adjust the brightness by 4 levels.

Are you using the right software for your specific R4? This is meant for the one shared in the video only.

My partner and i spent a few hours on this, had a few issues, need some help if anyone has the time to explain.
So first problem is when formatting, can do FAT32 but it won't allow 32 GB, when FAT32 is not selected, it will allow me yo select 32GB. We've double checked and we're using the right download from the R4 website as the card we have, which is the previous version of the one used in this video.
Another issue is potentiality where we're getting the NDS files from, which is elswhere but i couldn't use the search function on the website as it kept trying to take us externally, but the files u downloaded were NDS files and appeared as such, but not sure if that's causing an issue. We got the black screen saying the card couldn't be read upon opening the R4 (can't remember the message as it was last week) does anyone know what's going wrong here?
Did you watch the newer guide? Also this should only take a few minutes not hours, make sure your card looks exactly like the one shown. If it doesn't you may have a different card then the NDS/NDSL ONLY compatible version. If your card does look like mine it only works in the NDS/NDSL consoles. Check my playlist as well, I cover newer methods, also not (as I didn't understand fully) these original cards only accept up to 32GB cards at Fat32. Hope that helps.

This looks like the newer guide, the other videos of yours I've seen are using the new cards which I don't have, and I'm trying again to format these files and my computer won't let me have an allocation unit size of 32GB with FAT32 selected as the file system.

I don't see this guy posting any links to any of the files he's talking about such as his emulators and it's kind of hard to see what he's doing unless you set the video to 1080p and watch it full screen. He tells you about the R4 website which is printed on the card anyway. If you have to use Google then this video isn't necessary.

Try changing the date depends on your console though.

Is there any way to get an old R4 card from like 2008-2009 work on a new 3ds xl? I'm trying alot but my 3ds won't read my card
If it's the one marked for the 3DS it might work otherwise your best option is to get the 2022/23 model I mentioned there is no benefit to these cards anymore compared to the remakes.

Hey I tried everything in the books on my end to get this to work, Emerald and Platinum are 2 of the games that will not load because they need external memory to run. The only option is to get a GBA Flashcart unfortunately.

Hey this means that you didn't place the files correctly or format the card correctly. Also could mean the card isn't reading or is the wrong size.

Sadly it says "Couldn'tfind_DS_MENU.DAT" and doesnt start. Any suggestions what I am doing wrong? I used a 2 GB Card and formated it as you did in the video. Is it totally needed to be formated to FAT32 and 32 kilobytes?
Wrong card most likely, yes fat32 if your card looks exactly like this one then these files will work otherwise you need to find the right files for the specific card you own.

You can Fat32 a 64GB using a partition manager just fine, if it's the 2022/23 model than it'll work

Even if you do have the new R4 card, for the DS Lite, many Game Boy Advance games run like crap or at all. You are limited to using the best GBA emulator for DS which is GBARunner 2 which hasn't been updated since August 12, 2020. Lots of games have horrible audio issues. Only 64 files per folder too. Really sucks if you have a large collection.
What's weird is there is no rhyme or reason as to what works or doesn't work. Alien Hominid which is 8,192 KB does not run, yet Pokemon Fire Red which is double the size at 16,384 kb does.
Hmmm interesting I've tested approx. a dozen games mostly the popular ones however. I didn't even know that game was on GBA until you mentioned it. Most games I've discovered play decent, and for under $10 rather than $100 for an EZ Flash or EverDrive I'd rather go the $10 method unless you have a 3DS which you could just mod and install the game. That being said the R4 has many more purposes than just emulation, it does suck that a lot of homebrew emulators aren't being developed anymore but still an awesome card to own in 2023! :D
@@DNAMobileGaming Baldur's Gate - Dark Alliance, Cartoon Network Speedway, Blades of Thunders, Bratz, every single Classic NES games, Mario Golf, Mario Tennis, etc, and many MANY other popular titles do not work. But like you said, for $10 it does play a lot of games very well. 😁

As long as you can format your SD Card then I'm sure the Chrome book would work fine. It's just an Android Laptop basically if my memory serves me right, I've never owned one but you can do this with even your Android device so I wouldn't see why not.

Which one works with the new 3ds xl? I have the green r4 chip with 3ds on it but my new 3ds xl doesn't read it.
Did you use the firmware that says 3DS and copy the files over like I did? Also make sure your Micro SD card is formatted correctly, if that doesn't work check the contacts make sure they're clean. Also note 3DS Games do not play with these just wanted to make sure this is known because I get that questions at least once a week.

@Mentes can you try switching your date on the 3DS to an earlier date I had to do that with my regular 3DS just to read the R4 shown in this video. It won't load it but it would read it if I changed the date to 2016.

Also I noted I have a slightly different R4 card then the one in the video, so I downloaded the firmware that belongs to that card. I have an R4 SDHC RTS LITE, its dark gray with a silver sticker. I got this card probably over 10 years ago, I want to use it again since I recently bought a new NDSL. The card did work on my old NDSL, now it doesnt on my new one, probably the corrupted files since it hadn't been used for quite a few years. Do you perhabs have other suggestions? Thanks a lot!
@leonweber5244 are you sure it's compatible with the Lite and not only for the DS? Also what game loads when you put it in your Lite? Deep labyrinth, SpongeBob, Bomberman are the 3 major bios that load usually.
@@DNAMobileGaming I am sure it worked on my old NDSL, but it was probably close to 10 years ago when I played some games on it the last time. Back then it loaded most games I think, mario kart, mario bros ect. I Am not sure if I had the games you mentioned.

When opening Pokémon games on my Nintendo DS I get “the save data could not be accessed. Please turn the power off and reinsert the DS Game Card” (this does not happen with other games such as Mario ones). How can I solve this?

Oh weird. I was going to say Emerald, Platinum won't load unless you use twilight menu. The other games I've never experienced this, I'll look and see if I can manipulate this.
Hey so I tried multiple Pokemon games and have yet to experience this not sure what's going on but perhaps it's your SD card. The only way I have been able to get this error is by shutting off my console before the save completes.

I have also tried installing the new firmware like you have done in this video but it says “couldn’t find _DS_MENU.DAT”. Hey this card was only specific to the NDS/NDSL as shown in the video it says on the sticker NDS/NDSL. There were multiple types of these original R4 cards released for newer consoles over the years, your best option is to buy the latest R4 Clones they work on the entire DS family.
Thats not even the original original. The original could only accept a 2GB micro sd card max and didnt have a webside on the sticker. It only said R4 Revolution for the DS. It was actually pretty cool, it completely bypassed the DS menu even if you had the DS in manual. Honestly it is my favorite of any other version except for the 2GB limitation, and they didnt have emulators other then DS back then. Ive used it for 2 decades now. I made my own custom Star Trek theme since it was touch screen which was so uncommon in the early 2000s.
The original R4 Card literally said R4 only this is the original R4 Revolutions card but the upgrade version which was the latest model from what I recall. There's a ton in the Discord community for DNA Mobile Gaming that talk about this stuff all day however this is the most relevant card to date for the Revolutions style cards. The CLONES however that say revolutions on them are complete fakes and don't load the same bios.
I had to check my original box from 2007, this cart doesn't have the original website on it. It's r4ds not r4i-sdhc. I remember having to order mine from Canada when it first came out

Hey what's not working? Is it the same card? Did you follow the guide thoroughly? What kind if computer are you using? Did you format the card and copy the correct files to the root like in the guide?

Means you didn't place the right files for your specific card I have an entire playlist on different card types and covered why you may get the loading screen. Also note this video doesn't have any files follow the link in the description or go to the playlist lol

This works with all Original R4 cards you just need to pick the correct one like I did in the guide.

Yes only the original card supports up to 32GB the newer cards support bigger cards.
I did everything and it still says there is no DS card inserted

Have you tried other games? Did you make sure the contacts on the cards aren't dirty? Did you format the SD card correctly? Are you using a 32GB or lower SD card?
I use 32gb but i think duct tape fixed it
And i cleaned it
the firmware website isnt up
It only works in some countries as a lot of countries block it, read the description please.

You can use either one there is nothing different in regards to compatibility. The first file just uses a different menu that is called YSMENU. I use/recommend this menu because it has no time bomb and allows for GBA Games to be played. Also note this card DOES NOT support SD cards larger than 32gb

Theses are fake R4 :) this is not the original. The first was without the Wifi name on the linker from 07... R4i and R4 sdhc are nothing but fake R4 cards. The og one had fins on the back of the linker like a real game. How i know ? I was active back in the days. If you want a decent linker pick a SuperCard Ds two or later.
Well you are sort of correct as the original card that my father bought was from a pawn shop way back in the day but these cards were the original cards that had the original locked firmware that wouldn't work on other cards and vise versa. There's tons of these original cards still out there but hey stopped producing them back in 2018 according to what I read on the official R4 website which is only available in Northa America and other countries that didn't ban it. That being said these cards also (like this one does) have a seal of authenticity unlike the now TRUE FAKE cards that are found on AliExpress mind you the cards on Ali Express work flawless and are only under $6 CAD. I own a bunch of them & have yet to experience any issues as my kids play on them almost daily and have yet to tell me there is something wrong.

That is NOT an original r4, it’s a clone quite similar to the gold pro, rts etc etc, it was designed to look similar to trick people to thinking it’s a real one
It is the real card, if you try to flash the original firmware from the original site to clones a pop up will appear stating the card is a fake. I flashed this card with the firmware and it worked plus it has the seal of authenticity on the back. Unless the original R4 site that I guess is banned in multiple parts of the world is fake cards too then with my knowledge of owning these for over a decade I'm 90% sure this is real lol.

Well if you want to go all the way back then yes the original original was only for the DS. These were original upgraded versions it's been years since I owned the one from when I was around 15-16 I remember my father bringing one home from a guy that sold them out of his pawn shop.

What doesn't work your R4 card? This video was mostly for those that still have one of these or came across one otherwise I suggest to buy the $15 2022/23 R4 that works for everything 😃
