Having declared my dissatisfaction with this sharpener last night th-cam.com/users/postUgkxDcr-y2Pf6xdnrFHrSP7dl9kpKaCozcSQ I thought about the problem some more. It occurred to me that I might be undoing each attempt at achieving a sharp edge by the repeated attempts. So, I tried to clean up the unsatisfactory result by honing with only positions 3 and 4.Miracle!! A really nicely sharpened chef's knife, more than enough to handle my needs. Admittedly, it did not reach professionally sharpened razor-fineness, but it is now significantly sharper than it was. A bout of breaking down carrots convinced me. So, major apologies to the manufacturer, Amazon, and all happy and potential owners! Follow the directions: don't buy it if you have ceramic blades; and don't overwork your knife blade.
I am writing to you from Chile, South America. Excellent work, very neat, functional and at the same time economical. As a contribution, I would install a magnet in the area where the knife rests. Congratulations!!!!
if u flush ( counter sink) a rare earth magnet or two into the fixture, you can stabilize the knife a lot more than holding it with your hand just a suggestion otherwise i i really like the set up great job
If you made several copies of the sandpaper holder (just that little part, not the whole jig), you could leave a different grade of sandpaper (60 grit, 200 grit, etc.) in each one, and you wouldn’t have to switch out the sandpaper pieces.
Have you had any issues with the screw on pieces that hold the sandpaper hitting the blade? Maybe it would work better to hold them on the ends in line with the rod. No chance to catch the blade
20° per side? That's 40° inclusive. Good angle for an axe, not a knife. What are the measurements for the one you made? What should a second slot for 10 degrees be? The "about 20 degrees" measurement is good for my axe, so it would be useable for that. A second rod slot for 10 degrees (+ or - 2 degrees) is needed.
not gonna lie to you... That was a great video, quick and to the point, and pretty decent video and editing skills, too. Great job man. I'm pretty impressed!!!
zajebiście ;) przydatne. Te "firmowe " ostrzałki tego typu to koszt conajmniej 200 zł za kawałek plastiku i troche metalu.Przydałoby sie jeszcze ramie metalowe ze zmianą wysokości kąta ;)
Great job !!! If you could move up & down the part that holds the knife it will allow different grinding angles for different kind of knives(blades) so you have 20% for each one. Thanks 4 sharing.
dont be daft, clamps are cheap as, u dont need a pillar drill u can get away with a cheap hand drill which everyone should have, and u dont need a table saw u can use a cheap jig saw like cmon now
This inspires me to make a version for 3D printer. How about a version, where wider sheet of sanding paper can be clamped and shifted over the active are, once worn off. Hm...
Great, simple to build. Thanks for posting. Ideas on how to modify it so the angle can be adjusted or alternatively the user can choose between three or four different angles such as 17, 23 and 25 degrees would be appreciated.
I think a simple modification to have an adjustment piece at the top end where the steel rod meets the upper wooded portion will do that part. But I am not sure if my above explanation is clear !
But you know that your approx. 20 degree is not constant above the full length? In direction of tip the blade gets shorter, means the angle is different..
It would be more versatile if you'd made several holes for obtaining various edge angles depending on the type of your knives! Simplicity of the device stands for its PERFECTION.
So far best ever and cheapest and most simple made sharpener i have seen, bookmark'ed ! thanks

we enjoyed with your sharpener its so easy & interesting & cheap best wishes

I have a Lansky sharpening kit. Same concept, but it's much smaller and packs away in a very small kit. I've used it for about 20 years.
Where can I buy them?
Just Google "Lansky Sharpening Kit". I don't know where I got mine, but they do have them on Amazon. Amazon wasn't even around when I got mine.
Okay, thank you 😊
The Lansky is good for larger knives but it can't deal with small ones
I already bought one and i'm very happy witht it. I can enven sharpen my kukry with it :)
THIS IS IT, IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS
Excellent one. Thank you so much. Easy diy job
That is sheer elegance in its simplicity.
Very nice!!! Awesome Project!!
great idea mate i love how you can change the sandpaper so easily
Good job brother...5 star and cheap..
Nicely Done!
would be great if there was like measurements on the screen or something i want to make one but i dont know any of your dimentions
For anyone else whos come here (like me) and was after some dimensions - he's added a diagram to the facebook post (follow link in description)
No facebook
Super! lo haré en algún momento.
pasaron 4 meses, ya lo hiciste¿?¿ xD
Very nice design and build, thanks for sharing all of your hard work
How did you work out the angle
tu fais comment pour changer d'angle d'affutage vu que tous les couteaux n'ont pas le même angle d'affutage. MacGyver ?
whare would I find a template?
Great work, bravo. I will try to make one for my knifes. Thank you for the idea.👍
Your belt sander is nice...
Can you please make a video on your belt sander ?
Your all projects are nice n accurate..
What is that thing that you spray?? It looks fantastic!!
Urethane
if u flush ( counter sink) a rare earth magnet or two into the fixture, you can stabilize the knife a lot more than holding it with your hand just a suggestion otherwise i i really like the set up great job
An extra clamp would keep the price under $22
@@stoneomountain2390
it was a thought nice job tho on the set up i made one for myself and it does work nicely

yes but the sandpaper every time will sharpen less, just is for 2 uses and change i guess
Awesome video!
Do you have measurements or a template for that jig?
in the description at the top a link to FB.
Great build and demo but. How do you calculate the angles though? This bit mashes my head! 🤣
That is really nice.
Could you make the sand paper holder spring loaded, so you can easily change the paper over each time?
love your work nice keep goung bro
Well done! Imade a similiar sharpener , set for twenty degrees, and the results are awesome. It's also fun.
Nice tool and video. 😊
Fantastic work there, dude. Really useful! 😃
Great design but how do you know if it's actually 20° deg angle
By using trigonometry
whelp this maybe a weekend project for me have a handful of knives that are basically blunts
Saaame dude.
Have you ever sharpened a knife? Or just watched youtube videos of people doing it?
Real talented. Very good.
Amazing and a great idea. You always rock M.N. I love your projects. Keep it up buddy.
What sorts of Sanding Papers do you use?
Nevermind🤦♂️
D.
you're just an amazing talented artist!Respect!
Puedes decirme donde encontrar el video completo?. Te felicito, me gusto mucho tu trabajo, pero, pareciera que en este video faltan pasos

Do you sell the things that you create?
You could also make the log u have the knife on. Changeable and have different angles.
👍 nice job!! What would be the maximum blade lenght this jig can sharpen??
I love it!!
Great and simple, Thanks for sharing. I'll do one shortly.
not gonna lie to you... That was a great video, quick and to the point, and pretty decent video and editing skills, too. Great job man. I'm pretty impressed!!!
Nice video, like it so much
Hey nice effort. Thus has given me encouragement to make one and try it . Thanks.
Is that a Parksude table drill? Do you recomend it?
That was really helpful ❤❤❤
I like it!

what is the name of rhis sand paper
good afternoon!
I really liked the video
I would like to know the measures you have used.
Thank you for your attention.
I'm from Brazil
Grana das lixa ? .
This tool has a fixed angle for sharpening?
Lavoro preciso e pulito bravo😉👍👏
And what do we do that do not have all those tools? would have been easier with a bench grinder.
James Shannon
Just a saw and a drill.
Great job !!! If you could move up & down the part that holds the knife it will allow different grinding angles for different kind of knives(blades) so you have 20% for each one. Thanks 4 sharing.
With 2500 dollars in tools you can make a 5 dollar knife sharpener....
With a thousand dollar computer or phone you can wet yourself.
dont be daft, clamps are cheap as, u dont need a pillar drill u can get away with a cheap hand drill which everyone should have, and u dont need a table saw u can use a cheap jig saw like cmon now
next up: how to make a knife sharpener with only your fingers and teeth
Ty... For under 5 dollars> then proceeds to use professional tools/ craftsmanship!
Not for 5 dollars no!
he didn't do anything that could not be done with inexpensive hand tools that most already own.
Very Cool as always bro and keep up the awesome content Sir.
Beautiful
It's very cool but what is the dimension of all ??? ( c'est vraiment cool mais quel sont les dimensions de la machine ?? )
I think it largely depends on the size of your knives and which sharpening angle you want. This model isn't adjustable
FIGURE IT OUT
Looks great. I've been watching loads of vids and this one looks like the best for my needs. Thanks.
Lots of HSS bits going into wood. Otherwise do you want to release the design plans?
Very nice
looks great, can you add the dimensions
Wow mate you have a very creative mind set love watching always educational.ps are you a carpenter??
Thanks, The best constraction
M.N notification always makes my day.
Why not stick on 4 side, so you won't so busy to change the grit
wow 😲👍
Thanks man it helps to finish my project
This inspires me to make a version for 3D printer. How about a version, where wider sheet of sanding paper can be clamped and shifted over the active are, once worn off. Hm...
Very cool
Creative.... But why not just use a stone or steel ?
I would like to buy a jig from you I don't have the tools to make it myself so would you do it
Great, simple to build. Thanks for posting. Ideas on how to modify it so the angle can be adjusted or alternatively the user can choose between three or four different angles such as 17, 23 and 25 degrees would be appreciated.
Make three slots up top. The higher you put the bar, the steeper the angle will be
Simply AWESOME!!!!
Should of used bolts where you put the knife that way you can clamp it down
Nice, but it would be even better if you could change the angle
I think a simple modification to have an adjustment piece at the top end where the steel rod meets the upper wooded portion will do that part. But I am not sure if my above explanation is clear !
This is great ! It could be improved with a knife holder
Awesome
Great project, just missing height adjustment. Cheers
Malzeme ve ölçüleri ni paylasırmısınız lütfen.
You can give me the measure of the pieces of wood? and the measurements of the holes or else it will not give me the angle thanks mate
Awesome! so simple :). I'll be attempting this!
Thanks a lot I made this with a small mod by adding a spring clamp to hold the knife leaving my hands free.
Que medidas tiene y que madera usaste ????
But you know that your approx. 20 degree is not constant above the full length? In direction of tip the blade gets shorter, means the angle is different..
I guess he already knew this but that belt sander IS used for knife sharpening all the time by knife builders.
good job
So perfect
It would be more versatile if you'd made several holes for obtaining various edge angles depending on the type of your knives! Simplicity of the device stands for its PERFECTION.
What you can’t sharpen a knife without spending 600 on a wicked edge! I use paper wheels ,very good video
Nice👍🌹🇩🇿
Você tem as medidas do jig de amolar faca
dimensions sir?
