The way I think of starter decks is that they’re your starter Pokémon, while an included booster is like seeing Wally get a Ralts first try while you run around for 3 hours only getting Zigzagoons
Dude I just started playing Emerald for my first time ever and I have like 40 hours in it and haven't found a single damn Ralts yet. I've been beffing up a Sableye though so hopefully that will help me crunch Wally's ass later...
The deck is bad so it is a good thing that they include boosters. It also somehow pushes the idea that boosters -and booster draft- are the way to go go next

Most sets are apart of Blocks was 2-3 for main blocks except for the Lorwyn-Shadowmoor block which was tow small blocks combined into a 4 set block.

@@brittanynguyen3794 Kinda but it would hold all of one element. This can't work with vanguard since they got over 20 clans that aren't always supported with ease. If anything the flags could work better in this case. Or magic.
Great job on getting one of the best mythica in the set In my opinion. On another there is also a thing called a fatpack which includes the 26 of each basic lands, 5 being foiled, a spindown with guild colors, a more sturdy card box, and 10 booster packs, and a booklet of all the cards in the set.
Kohdok, my man. I LOVE your content. I dont even play Magic, but I love this video! I think some great new videos would be How x Makes Their Starter Sets for Pokemon (if you haven't already), or Bakugan. They make sets that come with three Bakugan and a 40 card deck.
What do you think about the progression of Magic's Theme Deck product line, from its introduction with Tempest in late 1997, to how they do things today? I normally use the terms like "becoming", "replacing", or "replaced by", to denote the successor to a specific product. In 1997, Tempest was the first set to have Theme Decks. They had 3 rares. In 1998, with Urza's Saga, the rare count was reduced to 3. Eventide in 2008 was the last set to have Theme Decks. Normally, there were 4 Theme Decks per set, with a few exceptions where there were sometimes 3 decks, in 2 cases, and 5 decks in 3 cases. Core sets, starting with 7th Edition started to have Theme Decks, although there was a set of 5 Theme Decks for some Starter set before it. 10th edition was the last Core Set to have Theme Decks. These decks were 40 cards and had 2 rares. You had 5 choices of Theme Decks in each core set, 1 for each color, and the decks were mono colored. In 2008, with Shards of Alara, "Theme Decks are becoming Intro Packs" It's almost the same thing, except now you get 41 cards and a booster pack. You still get 2 rares, and it doesn't matter if it is a Core set or a regular set, you are getting 41 cards and a booster pack. In 2010 with Magic 2011 Core Set, you get 60 cards and a booster pack. Still 2 rares in a deck and 5 decks per set. In 2012 with Magic 2013 Core Set, you get 60 cards and 2 booster packs. 2 rares in a deck with 5 decks per set. In 2015, Magic Origins is the last Core Set... until its return later on. In 2016, Eldritch Moon was the last set to have Intro Packs, and with Kaladesh, "Planeswalker Decks are replacing Intro Packs". With Kaladesh, you get 2 Planeswalker Decks per set. Each Planeswalker Deck has 2 rares from the set itself, and some exclusive cards exclusive to the deck. Planeswalker Decks still contain 2 booster packs. In 2018, Core sets came back with Core set 2019, and instead of 2 Planeswalker Decks, there are 5 of them. one of each color. Core Set Planeswalker Decks only contain 1 booster instead of 2. In 2020, with Ikoria, Ikoria Commander AKA Commander 2020 is replacing Ikoria Planeswalker Decks, and Zendikar Rising Commander Decks are replacing Zendikar Rising Planeswalker Decks. For Ikoria Commander, I view this as a successor to the Planeswalker Deck line, but also the Annual Commander precon line. I don't know if WOTC is going to tie in the main annual Commander Decks with a set or if Ikoria is the only set to have the main annual Commander precons be tied to the set, and after that each non-Core set will have 2 Commander Decks that are built like the ones that they are going to have with Zendikar Rising. Core Sets will remain having the 5 Planeswalker Decks like before. Note that in 2020, depending with what will happen with Zendikar Rising Commander Decks, only the Core Set will have preconstructed decks under $20. For the longest time, from 1997 up to 2019, each set had at least one preconstructed deck under $20. Theme Decks were $10, Intro Packs were $12, until they added the 2nd booster in which the decks became $15. Planeswalker Decks were $15, and the Core Set Planeswalker Decks were $12. Commander Decks are $40. Which method do you like better? 4 Theme Decks per set, 5 Intro Packs per set, 2 Planeswalker Decks per set, or 2 Commander Decks per set? Do you think the starter deck product should be a format in which it is not the actual regular game? Personally I like the 4 Theme Deck setup they had from 1997 to 2008, but what do you think is the perfect number of choices of starter deck each set should have? For me, each Core Set must have 5 decks, and the other 3 sets in the year must have 4 decks. Each deck must be about the regular game of Magic, not Commander, not Brawl, not Archenemy. Just the regular game. The decks must cost under $15. I normally buy all the Theme Decks, Intro Packs, Planeswalker Decks to get a taste of what the set is like. With Ikoria Commander, I had to shell out $300 CDN just for the set of 5 Commander decks just to get a taste of Ikoria, rather than my usual $75, and the Ikoria precons are Commander Decks, not regular decks. I remember with Theme Decks each of the 4 decks had a theme tied to the set. With Mirrodin, one was about the Affinity for Artifacts mechanic. The 2nd one was all about Equipment. The third one was about Artifact destruction. The 4th one was about sacrificing artifacts. I believe with Planeswalker Decks, the Planeswalker was shoehorned in. The decks weren't about the themes of the set anymore, and about the Planeswalker, and because there had to be a Planeswalker, there could only be 2 decks per set, not the usual 4, like with Theme Decks, or 5, like with Intro Packs. Compare this with Pokemon and Yugioh. Pokemon had Theme Decks since 1999, and Yugioh had Structure Decks since 2004 in Japan, 2005 elsewhere. Pokemon Theme Decks from then to now are different, but at least they were still Theme Decks. With Magic, we went from Theme Deck to Intro Pack to Planeswalker Deck to Commander Deck. It is as if they refuse to add an extra rare, or make the deck better. With Pokemon, at least they added more rares and more trainers, but with MTG, they had to completely overhaul the product line. I just wished MTG just went with 4 Theme Decks per set and stuck with it. Maybe if you bought 2 of them, you could combine them and make a more competitive deck, like in Yugioh, and it would contain a code card that brings the deck into MTG Arena, while having a Theme Deck format In MTG Arena, just like Pokemon. Every time I try to edit this, TH-cam removes my spacing, and I have to edit this again just to put the spacing back in.
Great analisis, you seem to have a lot of knowledge about precons of the 3 major TCGs. I am also a fan of MTG and its precons, even if the format isn't as widely beloved or deep as others. I had actually not known exactly the route wizards would take after Theros regarding their preconstructed decks, and I was surprised to find a replacement with commander decks. While commander decks are an excellent product on their own, you also pointed out they are a diffrent price point, target, and format. Theme decks and intro packs are about introducing the themes of the set through a deck. Commander decks are more of an introduction to comander (not standard 60 card magic). I also would say that precons are best used in their own format, usually unmodified or with very specific and delicate modifications. I have a lot of theme decks from mercadian masques to eventide, but mostly I assembled them from singles rather than buying the deck (since I made my collection in the last 10 years or so mostly). I also have a set of the return to ravnica intro packs (the whole block), and I modified all of them a little bit to balance and show more themes of the set in them (for example added more keyworded mechanics to the Orzhov and Simic decks from gatecrash). Probably few people do this as most leave them in their natural state. Overall I still think Magic needs a 60 dollar deck aimed at new or casual players like myself. In my opinion, the planeswalker decks weren't a huge leap in quality, despite containing more rares ( the planeswalker itself, usually 2 rares from the set, and the 2 tutor cards). My main problem with the planeswalker decks is that many cards relied on them, and they don't sinergize well with quick rush decks, such as the Rowan deck (its meant to be a Boros rush deck with a 5 mana planeswalker). Not sure what the solution could be other than intentionally slowing the game down to permit such cards to have an impact, even if specific decks don't have a positive synergy with them. Planeswalker decks did include unique cards, which I am indeffrent to, but it did give the product a bit more personality with that, and allowed the set to be developed in its way, and the precon to make its unique cards in another, if needed. Intro packs were better for sets because they allowed more strategies to be included in them, showcasing 4 or 5 decks per set allowed nearly all themes to be shown. Limiting to just 2 per set also had its own stipulations. Again the 4 or 5 per set meant there were more misses too, as some themes where not meant to be made into its own deck in isolation of other mechanics (a deck from scars of mirrodin based on proliferate, comes to mind in this). Also wanted to mention pokemon is doing things very right, having its own theme deck format, and adjusting the power level of theme decks to deliver a conplete and fun expirience on their own, and a stepping stone for newer players. Tying the deck to PTCGO was a brilliant move.
It's funny considering that Domri is pretty close to being topless too. If Domri was a chick then that would super progressive of Wizards to have a character support the free the nipple campaign.

The toolkit is more of a collection starter. It claims to have over 200 cards, but 125 of them are lands. At just $20, it certainly conveys value, but it is far from the best place to start. You can't really make a deck out of it and it doesn't really give you a sense of how the game is played. I guess that's why it's called a "Kit": it implies that there's a lot of work involved. For a newer player, though, it's easy to get lost in all the cards. I'd say it's better as a second purchase
