I’m going to try to use just water from now on. I used to use soap and I have found that it makes my skin break out really bad. Maybe I’ll reply to this comment and tell you guys how it works for me, and remember if you are dealing with acne too you are still very beautiful and it doesn’t define you at all!
What kind of soap did you use? Because when I overuse exfoliating acid cleansers, it tends to happen to me too, or generally with harsh cleansers. It would be great if you could update the comment from time to time and share your results! 😃

Well, if it's working with normal water for you, why change it? But if you use a cleanser, make sure it's gentle; something like the Beauty of Joseon Green Plum Cleanser would be good. Their sunscreen is also good, so that would be my recommendation. I mean, you can still do as you like.
You can use a microfiber washcloth daily, in the AM and/or PM, or just once per day-or not at all. If you have a regular washcloth that’s rough and stiff (depending on how you wash it and how sensitive your skin may be), you might want to use it once per day or just a few times per week.

Hmm, do you use Adapalene for acne? And if so, how have you been doing with this routine? 🤔 I mean, if it works great and you do not experience any clogged pores or breakouts while only using water to wash your face in the morning, just continue 😃
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet I use adapalene mainly for acne scars and bumps the thing is I have been water cleansing for a long time and in the morning I didn't used to do anything only sometimes I would use sunscreen or just go bare face to school but now from almost three week I have been consistent with using adapalene at night and in morning routine of using bha and moisturizer since I have holidays and I am not going outside so no sunscreen But my skin has more acne spots than before I don't really know am I purging because of adapalene or breaking out because of the consistent moisturiser I have added in the morning daily with only water cleansing
@@almasimtiaz3109 I have had the same issue; therefore, I do not use any moisturizers but purely add hydrating serums or just use sunscreen when I am going out for a more extended period. (which I rarely do because I have lots of work 🤣 and people in my area seem to be so aggressive nowadays 😏) Anyway, I think that the moisturizer is the issue! But, still, if you want to use a moisturizer during the day, and if you use such heavy occlusives (vaseline) in the evening, it is essential to wash it properly with a cleanser (suitable for your needs) in the morning as otherwise you will clog pores and therefore you have these issues. Still, the moisturizer may not even be required (in most cases). If I experience dryness because of differin gel I always like to skip 1-2 days which solves the issue, and during that time, I do not use anything that works best.
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet yeah that is 😂its hard to use sunscreen consistently or even apply moisturizer somtimes and wear mask on top thanks for the advice I will avoid using moisturizer and instead use hyaluronic with bha Also one thing is I have been using niacinamide for a long time over two months and before that also on and off but I have not seen any results like it neither got bad or improved it's just the same condition of skin
@@almasimtiaz3109 Yes, also, I do not like it, but the sunscreen formulation also plays an important role; most are just not made for daily application; the best I have tried so far is the one from NIOD but very expensive for everyday use 😕 For the skincare products, you can also try not to use anything and just cleanse your face in the morning. Regarding the Niacinamide, I am really questioning a lot of these skincare ingredients to what degree they can really help us. There is a massive lack of studies publicly available. I tested some on myself and was very consistent for 6-12 weeks since that is what they usually did in these studies. Still, the results were mixed, it was difficult to determine how much the product did and how much the skin did on its own, and there are so many factors to consider while using these products. If it does not show any improvement after such a long time, it will likely not do anything. Maybe give it another few weeks, but if you do not see results, just don't use it anymore because it won't likely do anything 😕
Tbh I don’t have any skin care routine as a guy, I’ve always washed my face with water only and still have glowing skin. Maybe genetics or luck God knows.
Yes, I think, as a man, it is much easier as you do usually not have any hormonal imbalances; therefore, skincare companies like to choose male models as they always have glowy "clean" skin so that they can claim their product works well 🤞😉 But yes, genetics play also an important role, I think.
I (57, male) have always had oily face which is why I use bathing soap on my face while showering daily. I read somewhere recently that this soap is actually prodding my skin to generate even more oil. Will check this out, skipping the soap on my face (which is a nuisance anyway, tends to get into my eyes).
Hey came a across this today. Am in Kenya, Africa and wish to try this routine. My skin is super sensituve and reacts with almost everything. What moisturizer do you recommend plus sunscreen.
Hey! 😊 Do you have dry, normal, or oily sensitive skin? Do you experience redness, stinging, or burning? As for sunscreen, look into a mineral one, which is less likely to cause more sensitivity to your skin.

I like to use these water bottles when it is hot, but I think there is some concern about the nitrogen used. So I use La Roche Posay Thermal Spring Water.
What is a good natural sunscreen? Can I use it on my face as well? Thank you. I stopped because I didn't want harmful chemicals on my skin. I think I overdo with my washcloth because my skin is tight and uncomfortable
Mineral sunscreens. However, most of them leave a white cast (some more than others), and that's why they aren't as popular; however, if you don't mind it or get one with a tint, it's fine. Still, it would be best if you used an oil or balm cleanser to properly remove it in the evening. I use very soft microfiber/makeup washcloths, which are very gentle on the skin :)
Another question, do you know if a washandje is enough instead of a microfiber towel: i only know the dutch word sadly, washandje but its like a towel but smaller and most of the times softer and there are baby washandjes too and those are even more soft and gentle (from the hema the baby ones). Are those okay instead of the microfiber towel? I try not to purchase too much and use what i already have so that is why i am aksing this. Hope my english is a bit readable, if not please tell me and i woll try a translator app. I am dutch :)
Don't worry, your English is great, and I can also understand/read in Dutch. I just can't speak it 😅 If your washcloth isn't too rough, it can work. I have several microfiber cloths (also known as makeup remover cloths) since they remain soft regardless of whether they're wet, damp, or dry :)
@MelissaVanDijkOfficial ah thank you!! 😊 Yes my English is okay to read and listen, but typing it isn't my best 🤣 I'll try the baby washcloths and see if that works enough. Otherwise I'll search for the microfiber ones! Thank you a lot Melissa!! 💓
@MelissaVanDijkOfficial little update: tried the wascoth method and it wasn't good so I have ordered a 3x microfiber towel! Thank you for helping me out!! 💓
I would then use a gel-to-foam cleanser in the morning, something like Cetaphil Daily Facial Cleanser or Beauty of Joseon Green Plum Cleanser, or other mild gel-to-foam cleansers. It's important to properly remove it, including dead skin cells, sweat, and oil, so that it does not further clog the pores!

For how long have you been using these products before you started double cleansing? If the moisturizer didn't burn your skin before double cleansing, the moisturizer isn't the issue. It's the double cleansing method or your oil or water-based cleanser, depending on which one is new. If you do not have any direct sun exposure, there is absolutely no need to apply any sunscreen. Taking it off depends really on the sunscreen you are using. Some are water-soluble and come off with water, or your regular water-based cleanser, whereas others, for example, The Ordinary Mineral Sunscreen and other similar mineral-based formulations, are really impossible to remove with water. There, you must use an oil-based cleanser or need to rub very harshly with a cloth, if you apply them once, you know what I mean. And no, if you use moisturizer, you can use it before sunscreen, but generally, there is really no need for this. Just sunscreen is enough as they all contain hydrating ingredients, and it's just about finding the right formulation for your specific needs. You may need to test a few to find a good one. Here is the guide to figure out your skin type: Cleanse Your Skin Wash your face with a gentle cleanser to remove makeup, dirt, and oils. Pat your face dry with a soft towel. Wait for an Hour Allow your skin to return to its natural state. The characteristics of your natural skin will emerge after about an hour. Don't touch your face during this time! Examine Your Skin Use a mirror to look at different areas of your face, and feel it with your fingertips. Focus on these aspects: Oily Areas: If there's a shine on your forehead, nose, and chin (T-zone), it could indicate oily or combination skin. Dry Areas: If your skin feels tight, especially on the cheeks, and shows flakes, it may be dry. Balanced Areas: If your skin doesn't feel too oily or too dry, it might be normal. Sensitive Areas: If your skin feels itchy, reddish, or has a burning sensation, you might have sensitive skin. Assess the Findings Based on your observations, categorize your skin into one of these common types: Oily Skin: Your skin looks shiny, and you may have enlarged pores. Oily skin often has more visible blemishes and acne. Dry Skin: Your skin may feel rough, look dull, and have almost invisible pores. Dry skin can crack, peel, or become itchy, irritated, or inflamed. Combination Skin: This skin type features two or more different textures. Commonly, the T-zone is oily, while the cheeks are either normal or dry. Normal Skin: Not too dry and not too oily, normal skin has a proper balance. Pores are usually small, and the skin's surface is smooth. Sensitive Skin: This skin type can show up as redness, itching, burning, and dryness. You might need specialized products to minimize these symptoms.
It depends on your journey, and if you are sweaty or have a lot of oil production, it is still important to wash it with a suitable cleanser at least once a day to get it off the skin.
I do not have much knowledge about that, sorry 😕 But generally, cleansing your face with the right cleanser and using sunscreen to protect your skin during the day from damaging UV rays would be the right way to go.

I think that you've tried too many skincare products in a short period. Give your skin a break, do not use anything at all so that your skin has time to recover.
Well, it depends. Generally, if your skin is oily, you want to remove all the sebum from the skin surface to prevent it from clogging your pores. However, if you are not prone to acne, cleansing with water may also work well. Alternatively, you may want to try cleansing with water from time to time to see what works best for you. Overall, I suggest testing different methods to find the most effective cleansing routine for your skin.
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet but there is huge problem with my face wash after washing my face with face wash i feel irritation on my skin 📍😭 what to do
I have tried washing my face with only water. But even now I'm getting acne. I stopped all skincare routines. Does anyone know how many days will it take to clear acne if I'm using only water to wash my face?
The effectiveness of using only water to wash your face in clearing acne can vary significantly from person to person. Factors such as your skin type (oily, dry, combination, sensitive) and the current condition of your skin play a crucial role. For some, water alone may help in balancing the skin's natural oils, while for others, it might not be sufficient to address acne concerns. Acne can be caused by a variety of factors, including hormones, diet, stress, and genetics. Therefore, if your acne is caused by factors other than skin cleanliness, washing with water alone may not have a significant impact.
@@gvshriram Well, I am experiencing similar issues. Although I have significantly reduced them over the years, I still encounter random flare-ups that appear to come out of nowhere. @@gvshriram Yeah, I believe it's not so much about sugar, dairy, or junk food, but rather the quality of the food. If it's treated with additives like preservatives, or if the fruits and, especially, the vegetables are sprayed with chemicals, that's what I think might be causing acne or at least contributing to inflammation in the body, which then leads to new breakouts. That's what my findings are indicating so far. Moreover, products like benzoyl peroxide or retinol/retinoids seem to fade the acne a bit faster compared to when I don't use them. However, identifying the exact cause remains incredibly difficult.

Hey! I'm sorry to hear that! Moisturizer isn't necessary for everyone. In general, what skincare products you use depends on your skin type and needs. @@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet I use adapalene mainly for acne scars and bumps the thing is I have been water cleansing for a long time and in the morning I didn't used to do anything only sometimes I would use sunscreen or just go bare face to school but now from almost three week I have been consistent with using adapalene at night and in morning routine of using bha and moisturizer since I have holidays and I am not going outside so no sunscreen
But my skin has more acne spots than before I don't really know am I purging because of adapalene or breaking out because of the consistent moisturiser I have added in the morning daily with only water cleansing
@@almasimtiaz3109 I have had the same issue; therefore, I do not use any moisturizers but purely add hydrating serums or just use sunscreen when I am going out for a more extended period. (which I rarely do because I have lots of work 🤣 and people in my area seem to be so aggressive nowadays 😏)
Anyway, I think that the moisturizer is the issue!
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet yeah that is 😂its hard to use sunscreen consistently or even apply moisturizer somtimes and wear mask on top thanks for the advice I will avoid using moisturizer and instead use hyaluronic with bha
Also one thing is I have been using niacinamide for a long time over two months and before that also on and off but I have not seen any results like it neither got bad or improved it's just the same condition of skin
@@almasimtiaz3109 Yes, also, I do not like it, but the sunscreen formulation also plays an important role; most are just not made for daily application; the best I have tried so far is the one from NIOD but very expensive for everyday use 😕
For the skincare products, you can also try not to use anything and just cleanse your face in the morning.
You haven't disrupted the acid mantle on your face
I (57, male) have always had oily face which is why I use bathing soap on my face while showering daily. I read somewhere recently that this soap is actually prodding my skin to generate even more oil. Will check this out, skipping the soap on my face (which is a nuisance anyway, tends to get into my eyes).

Here is the guide to figure out your skin type:
Cleanse Your Skin
Wash your face with a gentle cleanser to remove makeup, dirt, and oils. Pat your face dry with a soft towel.
Wait for an Hour
Allow your skin to return to its natural state. The characteristics of your natural skin will emerge after about an hour. Don't touch your face during this time!
Examine Your Skin
Use a mirror to look at different areas of your face, and feel it with your fingertips. Focus on these aspects:
Oily Areas: If there's a shine on your forehead, nose, and chin (T-zone), it could indicate oily or combination skin.
Assess the Findings
Based on your observations, categorize your skin into one of these common types:
Oily Skin: Your skin looks shiny, and you may have enlarged pores.

Do you use anything else apart from your cleanser?

Hey!
I'm sorry to hear that!
Moisturizer isn't necessary for everyone. In general, what skincare products you use depends on your skin type and needs. Similarly, sunscreen is essential when exposed to the sun but might not be required if you're mostly indoors.
What cleanser do you use?
What's your skin type?
How long have you been using your current cleanser? Have you noticed a decrease in your acne since then?
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet simple refreshing face wash it's a gentle face wash but I have noticed white heads applying it its been 15days yes acne reduced coz I m working on my gut too but still feel some breakouts

Have you thought about changing your cleanser to options like Cetaphil Daily Facial/Oily Skin Cleanser, CeraVe Foaming Cleanser, or The Ordinary Glucoside Foaming Cleanser?
That's good to hear! I've experienced a significant reduction in my acne by doing the same. However, I haven't been able to completely eliminate them. It's a challenge to have full control over everything we consume, especially since we can't be certain about how food is treated, including the potential presence of preservatives, antibacterial agents, or other toxins.
@@shubhangiiyer1654girl I was using same cleanser and the problem is that cleanser !!! Go check the reviews. Is giving white heads to everyone
Yeah i just use soap and water to cleanse my face before i sleep and after i wake up and surprisingly have better skin than girls😅
Hey there,
I have been using hyaluronic acid serum and vitamin c suspension in am and pm but after applying vitamin c it irritates little bit for short time and get normal. And also sometime after cleanser I feel very bit irritating which may be happen sometime.
So is this thing normal..??
No, it is not normal. Does it also happen if you skip the Vitamin C 🤔?
I didn't try. And also on the vitamin c box its written that "a tingling sensation can be expected after applications". So should I use it.??
Tingling can happen because it contains a high % of Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid). However, if it stings or burns, it's best to stop using it, and you may want to use a Vitamin C product with a lower %. Or mix the Vitamin C Suspension with your moisturizer.
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet it doesn't burn or anything. Just feel tingling sensation for couple seconds. Should I continue using this..??
Thank you for your help.
@@darshilpatel3858 that is normal
Careful on DAIRY … and drink water
Dairy is not the issue, and water intake is also not a concern unless you really do not drink any during the day. However, I am not in the camp that advocates drinking tons of water and peeing all the time. It makes no sense, unless you are a water company selling bottled water ;)
