One of your best videos on how to tie a bowtie y’all do one on how to properly tie a tie tie. Did you good job? I like you a lot. I’m from the US. I know you’re from England but you have a very good channel. Keep up the great work, and we need more men like you
Ash. Thank you for this informative video. I'm going to get a couple of bow ties especially a black one. I am no longer going to wear the pre-tied one. Very best regards Ron
Hi Ash Thanks for the video . Ive only found this offering this evening Sadlly i could have done with it a couple of days ago As we are away again next month on our second cruise in 3mths i thought it was well in order to update my style profile some what .As you rightly say now ive learned this skill its with me for life . Thanks for your great work.I watched your last "life coaching video "in the early hours of today 😊😊😊😊
Will make sure I have this on standby for the inevitable bunch of guys in the office gents with panicked looks on their faces (me included) trying to tie their bow ties before the annual office Christmas do 😊. Excellent tutorial - thanks!
I've worn bow-ties for years, and have struggled with them sometimes: but that's because I did NOT grab both ends as you have done: so that'll serve me very well.
Great content, as usual, Ash! IMHO tying a bow tie is just a bit more difficult/complicated than shoe laces. It's also a matter of frequency, since I end up tying shoelaces pretty much every day. Bow ties? Not so much. That said: It can be helpful in learning this process if you practice on something other than your own neck. The process is complicated somewhat by the fact that you can't see what you are doing, and the procedure is backwards when viewed in a mirror. I learned by wrapping the tie around my own thigh, just above the knee, which had a circumference roughly similar to my own neck. I've also seen teddy bears or other stuffed animals brought in as ad hoc tailors dummies. Believe me, its much easier to master if you can see clearly what you are doing.
After listening to you TH-cam chaps I picked up a self-tie bowtie for my black tie ensemble, sat myself down with a video guide and had a bash, success. I will attest, a self-tie jobbie looks better than the ready rolled ties Mam procured for us as youngsters. Now, I'm considering a coloured variant for use with more casual outfits. thank you for your efforts again. M
Excellent little tutorial, Ash. -Size 15 and 1/2? I'm size 17 and 1/2 -18. (You have no idea the number of fabulous shirts I've had to pass up at thrift stores and charity shops because they were too small. )
It appears that a key step is that the longer side in the initial set up, needs to be flipped back over the shoulder, while forming the shape of the bow with the shorter side.
You left off the best part. As the event ends, you pull it apart and let it dangle down so everyone knows that you tied it. Also, if the knot is too perfect, you know it was pre-tied. The tie always has variations, different that the long tie.
I think I'll give the bow tie a miss for daytime wear. I don't mind the option for evening wear, but I'd look more of a prat if I went down this track, and I don't need any help with that.😁
This is a very useful video. I still find that the adjustment that has to be made after you have pushed the end through the aperture is tricky, and care is needed to ensure the tie sits closely but comfortably against the collar. I rarely get it right at the first attempt.
Ash, I need your help. Where can I buy online a "real" silk black bow tie, preferably in UK. And also, what do you think wearing a satin bow tie (not silk). I'm willing to buy something I have to tie myself
Knowing how to tie a bow tie also give a bit of a superiority complex to people who don’t know how to one let alone a normal tie. It’s pretty easy once you get use to it.
I try, and try, and try, and never get it right. I have a wonderful Churchill dotted tie which my wife can tie but I cannot. Thats means it stays at home when I travel 😭
Muscle memory and easier when the fabric becomes a bit looser with use. Great tutorial, sir. Wear and stand-out!

Great video! I have two, one Churchill dot and the other a regimental-style stripe. I'll have to break them out and use them!

Love this. Been a wearer of a bow tie for several years now. As a right handed I go a different route but the same result. Great video. Cheers Ash.
Thanks for this Ash, I have never mastered it, but now I shall retry to tie……..😉

My Dad taught me to tie a bow tie around my 18th birthday. He said two minutes to learn, but a skill for life.

Exactly the system I use!

So, here I am on my sixth go - and it bloody worked!
I’m off to my local gentleman’s outfitter to buy some really obnoxious box ties…..
…maybe noy😊😊
Welcome to the club sir.

Thank you and Greetings. Satoshi

You should have shown the two ways to tighten the knot after you have formed the

I never, ever go camping without wearing my bow tie.

Personally, I would look at ebay, or if the pockets are deeper, Drakes of London.
Camping with bowties, British!

Silly me, I've only used a clip-on in the past.
