What I really admire about Eno is that he never plays the 'wizard' role; he doesn't obscure what he does or adopt a twerpy persona. Spencer Kelly is trying to big him up as though he has mystical powers, but Eno wants to demystify what he does and let others know it's within their capabilities. He's obviously dazzlingly bright, but above all he extols the joy of having an enquiring mind.
That's the key to his genius, I believe....constantly being curious and never being afraid to make mistakes. It's inspirational, because anyone can foster those qualities, and be a little closer to genius.

I met Mr Eno years ago when I worked in a hifi store. I didn’t recognise him until he produced his credit card, he was generous enough to spend time talking synthesizers - or more precisely my ‘museum pieces’ as he described them, whilst explaining the principles of digital synthesis. He’d only come in to buy a pair of headphones. Thank you Brian.
For me, Brian Eno is the greatest living artist. His creativity, his work, his music, his personable character, and his clarity of explanation and openness is great.
I was watching another interview with Eno today on TH-cam and someone left this comment, "He's so fucking brilliant. No pretension or pomposity, just a guy who fucking loves to create." So true. And also, he is such a genuinely nice bloke. :-)
I think it's funny how people are unimpressed because "everyone else is doing that" when he's the one who came up with it to begin with. It's hard to look original when everyone else has been copying you for decades.
Been a big fan of Eno's since waaay back...I'm a geezer...and he always gives me new reasons to continue being a fan. Smart, talented, interesting, pretty humble considering his genius. Aces vid.
I feel lucky to have been turned on to him by high school friends in 1980. Amazing that after 40 years his work never gets old. Thanks to YT it's possible to burrow into more than just his music on a record player.
Curiosity generates inspiration and then creativity. I am liking Eno, for his methods that help artists get out of comfort zone and avoid repeating the same thing. A way to keep things new.
Brian Eno is a true visionary. Much respect for the man. I would've been very impressed that he found such a smooth round potato stone. That's a great find.
au contraire, eno is under estimated. his outsider status and massive intellect has helped to create some wonderful moments in pop music and beyond. Granted in conjunction with others, but that's how to stay alive. most people have one idea on thier own. then they die from repetition of the same idea. we should cherish this man whilst he is still alive.
I remember being inspired to make music from looking at the back of Music for Films with his geometric notation design on the back of the cover, for non musicians to draw a song with.
Brian Eno , He is a person of incredible genius. “ Reflection “ I use this application all the time. This application always Version ups that change every four seasons,Thank you !
I don't know if it happened by now but I would love to see and hear the result of Brian Eno playing with Elektron sequencers ... Would suit him really great.
Can't believe this came out seven years ago... I just started experimenting with randomness, scripts and generative sequencing in my music two weeks ago and now I found this and learned that I simply channeled my inner Brian Eno all the time?! I love him so much! ❤❤❤
I love how you can totally randomize the drum loops, yet still count the beat. The Modal Randomizer plugin in Reaper does the same thing. I love playing around with it...
this is just great and very generous of eno. the interviewer is so-so, but he lets the guy talk, so thats a win. plus eno was in very good humor and it makes you want to hang around this.
amazing how Brian didn't use his voice enough during those awesome years ...what he did use during those times were great baby on fire and needle camels eye was the best
searching for origins of Windows 95 startup sound brought me to discover a person, who is so incredibly extraordinary. Completely out of this world. His music.. so flowing, so merging. Truly discovered a new gem. In fact it was 1 AM.. guess the best ideas come past midnight lol xD
Lovely man, inspirational work and message...and a great interview, some really good questions, a good counterpart to the Arena documentary. I do wonder if there is supposed to be an irony in him talking about humanising work and allowing errors in the system when this is shot and edited so badly? Even for the lower production bar of TH-cam, the out of focus, shaky and different looking cameras are jarring. At least they got the sound good, I guess - although rather quiet at the start. And all from the BBC who SHOULD know better!
I love a whole variety of music and am not particularly patriotic, but Brian Eno, Imogen Heap, Jamie xx /xx and bat for lashes all make me a proud brit 👌
This kind of software is rampant these days, even on iPads, where musicians can create music while having a coffee in a coffee shop. There are more and more programmers doing this kind of thing in various ways with various interfaces. It's so much fun.
Odd seeing his studio like this, but can imagine the work that goes into making such classic albums. Eno is a great creator and I love his musical output whether it be solo efforts or in collaborations and/or production, its all good stuff. I particularly enjoyed the ambient lighting and the array of a million pictures. The speaker setup looks kind of complicated but interesting as well that I can imagine an installation like that. Smart fellow. Thanks for sharing
I have tons of respect for Eno and have for a long long time. His early minimalist work, Fripp and... and of course My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts which was life changing for everyone who heard it. That said - he's clearly doing what's called 'chance music' - very beautifully so - but he's not naming it this and as such, he's kinda/sorta making the process form his own and it's just not. OK, lemme have it
He's not paying attention to what other people are doing. He's too busy paying attention to pursuing the ideas he's interested in. See his sense of childlike wonder about science and "understanding?" He's down the rabbit hole, in his own world - it keeps him captivated. I know what that's like. So, in my understanding, he does seem pretty oblivious to terms that others are using for things. But I'm curious: what is the harm in him going about like this? (genuinely asking, please do inform)
Nora Joyce said about her husband, James, 'I do not know whether or not he is a genius. I just know that there is no one else like him.' This is how I feel about Mr. Eno. Now, I have to get back to his Oblique Strategies cards...
Hearing him say nobody else is using these methods as far as he knows makes me think he doesn't look around at what many other people are doing in music production today.

Great story.
Yeah ok.
For me, Brian Eno is the greatest living artist. His creativity, his work, his music, his personable character, and his clarity of explanation and openness is great.
To me it is David Lynch, but Brian Eno really close!
I sincerely wish this was 30 hours long instead of 30 minutes long.

I cannot agree more. And now that you say that, maybe what I really want is to hang out with him for a day.
or two, or a week, or one month, maybe a year or maybe we need some more time
Eventually technology will be good enough to have generative Brian Eno interviews that last forever
Incredibly inspiring!!

Mr Eno is a national treasure. Fascinating on many levels...could listen to him pontificating for hours
Hes a very unpretentious lovely man
Truly lovely
If there were more Brians this world would be a much better place.
Perfectly said sir
I've been an Eno fan since Roxy Music, and I've never seen this side of him. His genius is amazing.
Brian Eno is one of the great scientific, artistic and musical innovators of our time. A man with a huge and valuable intellect.
Those notebooks alone could be worth billions someday.
Eno is f***ing brilliant,isnt he??
This guy has been making beautifull art all hes life without ever falling in the trap that is being a celebrity.
We are so fortunate to have brilliant artists like Brian Eno and David Lynch.
Awww, I love that Brian found a cool potato rock. I can relate.

he is creativity, he never stops being fascinated with his various artistic paths
Should be UK's minister of education
I was just thinking that. Imagine if he was Minister for Culture, Arts and Education.
Stellar idea! He certainly knows a lot more about realistic education..
He is more intelligent than the whole of the UK’s government combined!
He's too overqualified for any government.
One of the greatest, important, creative, intelligent, influential, special British musicians ever. Love his stuff :)
Curiosity generates inspiration and then creativity. I am liking Eno, for his methods that help artists get out of comfort zone and avoid repeating the same thing. A way to keep things new.
Ive rewatched this so many times

I have Oblique Strategies and I use them all the time. Great interview and insight to the man himself.
03.17 I saw these installed in a botanical garden in Geneva. The sound changed as you moved passed them. It sounded great.
Brian Eno , He is a person of incredible genius.

18:20 heads into some Autechre territory
Imagine if Eno and Aphex Twin did a collab.
oh yes please
discorobotification would live to listen to that
discorobotification that would be quite nice to listen to
They did
...funnily enough, I don't think it'd work. Be too much like the irresistable force meeting the immovable object! ;-)
What an fascinating guy Brian Eno is. Id love to observe him, doing his thing
read his diary from 1995!
that 'speaker plant' at 3:20 is absolutely mindblowing.
I love how you can totally randomize the drum loops, yet still count the beat. The Modal Randomizer plugin in Reaper does the same thing. I love playing around with it...
He's just a humble guy. Incredibly talented artist and intelligent. I also admire his activism. Good man.
17:50 “when Brian Eno discovered Autechre”
Frank Ocean spotted at 0:09
Are you saying he's a 'potato like object'?!
7:28 there is some girl back there. She is one of the reasons of Eno being this amazing.
Man, you have one hell of an eye ! :)
Bit 'The Ring' though.
6:00 Frank Ocean's Boys Don't Cry magazine in left bottom corner, nice to see Brian is keeping up with new artists
He’s anything but a philistine
Eno has been cited as an influence on Blonde although I don’t know if Frank has confirmed that
I'm so happy watching this.
this is just great and very generous of eno. the interviewer is so-so, but he lets the guy talk, so thats a win. plus eno was in very good humor and it makes you want to hang around this.
He's a genius he has had his fingers in so many of my favorite songs from so many people,
Brian you've just defined the essence of why Science is so endless while at the same time Art can be so do-able.
That was a joy to watch my favourite artist in his playzones. Thank you for sharing yourself Brian.
This man looks timeless.
Experimentation is brilliance beyond imagination. How wonderful to invigorate all the senses in so many creative ways.
Absolutely adore this guy. Thoroughly enjoyed that.
amazing how Brian didn't use his voice enough during those awesome years ...what he did use during those times were great baby on fire and needle camels eye was the best
Brian Eno and I use the same MIDI controller... that makes me feel particularly special.
searching for origins of Windows 95 startup sound brought me to discover a person, who is so incredibly extraordinary. Completely out of this world. His music.. so flowing, so merging. Truly discovered a new gem. In fact it was 1 AM.. guess the best ideas come past midnight lol xD
Brian has the ability to rouse my interest in subjects I would have assumed hold little appeal. He would have made a terrific teacher.
My artistic hero! A true genius. If they aren't studying him in art schools n 150 years, it is really the end of western civilization.
I never would’ve thought that I’d want Brian Eno to DJ at my party.
The Scripters he is using are all native to Logic!!!!! You can all do it now if you have the Software!!!! (Under MIDI effects)
Searched for Scripters in Logic ProX help..nothing comes up?
midi effect> scripter. The actual scripts he's useing are custom.
Cheers
Is there similar midi effects for ableton?
@@ODDJOHNOFFICIAL I'm interested in Ableton as well. Maybe a VST can work. Any experts?
Wow! Learn something new, every day.
Love B. Eno. Groovy artist/musician.
Checking out the app now.
The humble genius of sound.
Loving the creative camera work. The fast cuts and experimental angles seem so fitting :)
Eno is all about capturing naturally occurring sonic beauty and getting out of the way as it’s happening.👍
wow excellent very interessting great guy !
That was a beautiful 30 minutes of blur.
Dear Brian Eno…Thank you for being who you are
We have to protect this man at all cost!
Eno surrenders enthusiasticallyto his interests, and thereby constantly grows as an artist.
There is a lot of value to be gained here, nice
Groove at 17:29 just waow it is really great. Is it released in that version?
Fantastic! I finally got to see what his little speakers were about. Nice interview boys.
Does eno have music released that sounds like what he was playing on the computer in this video? So sick

and interviewer is useless, yet he probably is famous and works there for years

The way of the future, now he have to find a way to break the technology and break those rules along with it
Fascinating. An artist in every sense of the word
Brilliant! So glad there's a Brian Eno! He's kinda smart, huh?
Crazy that just four years later what he was doing on his own with scripts is now natively built into Ableton 11

Bush of Ghosts is just jawdropping. It is utterly timeless. It was put out in 1980 and sounds like it could just as easily come out last week.
22:46 definitely thought the interviewer just swiped the cards XD until I realized that's his phone
Some real gems in there
Nora Joyce said about her husband, James, 'I do not know whether or not he is a genius. I just know that there is no one else like him.'

Now, I have to get back to his Oblique Strategies cards...
Brian coming with that heat 🔥
amazing that he defines, Many speakers working together creates a phase relationship, In UFOligy many kraft work together too create a mother ship.
I'd like to have a set of those idea cards. Great stuff.
There are free Oblique Strategies apps. Simple and very useful.
You can buy them from Eno Shop or eBay etc
there are web apps out there for viewing them, and physical cards, and smartphone apps too.
Make your own!
Hearing him say nobody else is using these methods as far as he knows makes me think he doesn't look around at what many other people are doing in music production today.
Such wonderful
Insights into his way of creating
I'd like to pop over to Brian's place and see if I can work out a more elegant solution to softening up the corners on that spiral staircase.
10:04 Raaga....how curious, he appreciates indian classical music to the point of applying its framework. Mad props!
I don't think it's possible to be a music genius without having a healthy affinity for Indian Classical.
interviewer /homework /lucky / interesting /hypnotic. and special thanks to the BBC. love from Canada.
