Those end fed wires usually have a 9:1 unun in the feed point. If you don't lay out a counterpoise wire in the opposite direction as the wire, then you need around 20 feet or more of coax between the tuner and the feed point. The unun will use the coax shield as a counterpoise. The short jumper was why you had trouble tuning at first. The longer coax would have tuned even better if it was a straight run instead of coiled up on the ground. I've used and built those end fed types quite a bit. They're good versatile antennas, but always seem to require a tuner for some if not all of the bands.
yes, that's similar to some of the Chameleon recommendations where it specifies in certain configurations, you must use 25+ fee coax. I couldn't find that exact model HFedz online I wanted to get it's length accurate. I think I see a similar model on eBay and it says this: 88' (26.8m) of #18 wire included. if the eye bolt have a 2nd nut yes but I don't see it on you end fed. Most recent design have this connection and a plastic 8 shape carabiner for strain relif and prevent shorts between the antenna wire and the gounded eye bolt.

My setup with this rig is a home brew end fed tuner,65 feet of wire,tiny key,the new mini speaker,and a 4 amp battery.:-}. If this was over the weekend then he was probably participating in the weekend sprint. Some SKCC members use the SKCC skimmer which will alert whenever an SKCC member is calling CQ that you haven't logged. Nothing to worry about, they just ask in case.

If you want your viewers to be able to see your antenna without interfering with tuning of your wire antenna you could tie strips of pink or orange plastic tape, like you find in construction box stores used for marking zones, to your antenna wire prior to pulling it up in the tree. I use this to mark my guy ropes when setting up at Field Day or other sites where visitors may be walking about, not paying attention to where they are stepping, and hopefully not bring down my antenna. You said you would list where you got the key below but I couldn't find any listing. Great video and great to see that you are enjoying the hobby. I like your sling shot, gives me an idea for a screw on addition to a telescopic painter's pole, better than the DIY PVC pneumatic antenna launcher where a means of pumping air into the reservoir would have to be carried. If there is new law about projectiles then you/I/we hams need to read up these in our respective areas so that we all can be apprised whether we are in conflict with the new law. Your videos are mostly in remote areas, although I haven't viewed all your videos, and I don't recall that many people are in camera shot near your recording area. If any one is around they are usually far from you, which I suspect is intentional. I would be more concerned with toting around a DIY PVC antenna launcher if I was out portable alone and other people were around. My idea of using a painter pole with a screw on slingshot is when done with putting my line up in the tree I can remove the slingshot and stow it away and use the pole as an attachment point for the end of an EFHW antenna, or a sun/weather tarp, etc. I would appreciate the schematic or location that you purchase that key. I am not in a rush as I have several. My trusty old, cheap Radio Shack straight key or a homebrew key that I use portable. I recently received a 3D printed iambic key that I saw on Dave Casler, KE0OG you tube page. I don't like taking my Bencher MY-1 or Kent iambic keys or my Kent Straight key out in the elements. Your CW has really come along! Looks like you found a winner antenna setup. Wonder how it plays on 80 meters. MFJ came out with something similar a year or so back that’s 132 feet. It’s a ‘no tune’ design on most bands. I think about $80 for the QRP version.

It's called the "Big Shot arborist" sling shot. Just google those words and it will come up different sites that sell it. It's a nice toy, but not completely necessary. If you get good at throwing then you won't need this.

I used Gordon West tapes at first to pass my 13wpm exam. I then used CW recordings and listened to many MANY hours of CW at various speeds. Mostly I learned through repetition. If I had to guess I'd say I have listened to about 300 hours of CW, maybe even 500 over the years using various devices.

Mike Simpson well I do cut out long sequences of calling CQ so it isn't as boring. Qrp is hard. Are you doing SSB? Ssb is extremely hard on qrp

I have one of those launchers and you really need to buy the trigger for it.. makes it much easier to aim and release.
