My test of QRP using the YouKits HB-1B QRP CW Transceiver. First QSO QRP contact using the Youkits QRP rig and the Elecraft T1 QRP Portable Antenna Tuner.
Designed for SOTA radio. This is what comes in the box as the best SOTA radio idea.
    New version with SWR indicator,
    World’s Smallest Stand-Alone ATU!
The Elecraft T1 is the only automatic antenna tuner that’s sized to match today’s small QRP rigs. It’s one-fourth the size of most other compact ATUs. And at just 5 ounces, the T1 is the ideal backpacking accessory.
    Use with any Low-Power Transceiver
The T1 can be used with any 0.5-W to 20-W transceiver covering bands in the 160-6 m range. This includes kits, home-built rigs, and commercial transceivers such as the FT-817, IC703, Ten-Tec Argonaut, SG2020, etc.
    Quick, Convenient, and Accurate
The T1’s 7-inductor, 7-capacitor L-network provides a wide matching range, and its re-tune time from memory is just 1 to 2 seconds. Equally important, the T1 always tries to achieve a 1.0:1 SWR-it doesn’t stop at 1.5:1 or 2.0:1 like some tuners. You won’t even need to change modes to tune. You can use SSB voice or a keyer as well as a constant carrier (AM, FM, CW, etc.).
    FT-817 Remote-Control Option
For even greater convenience, we offer a "smart" remote control adapter for use with the Yaesu FT-817 . On any band change, the adapter's microcontroller sends band data to the T1, which quickly recalls the appropriate network settings. Imagine instant QSY without the need to transmit-less QRM, less hassle! (See drawing below.)
    Factory-Assembled or Complete Kit
You can purchase the T1 assembled and tested, or as an easy-to-build kit. Our professionally written, fully illustrated assembly manual provides step-by-step instructions, and no alignment is required.
    Unsurpassed Technical Support
If you have any difficulty, our technical support via telephone and the Internet will get your T1 up and running quickly. You can also get answers to nearly any question day or night from the helpful, tech-savvy hams on our e-mail user group.

Great Video Tom, just goes to show it does not always take forever and a whole lot to make it work. I hope you are QSL'ing some of these great adventures you are doing/gong on. I oft times rummage thru my collection of QSL cards from back in 1972, and get great satisfaction out of the card. and the best part!! I often remember that exact qso and what we talked about sometimes (50 yrs later.!) QSL'ing is a privilege, and respect to the other ham, and a lost art. that is fading fast. collect them while you can and it is still affordable. you will not regret it trust me.!. I would not give up my QSL card collection for nothing!. 73/72 gud dx'ing! de Ellis WA1RKS

Very nice, Tommy. I am looking very hard at the HB-1B myself. I enjoy another TH-cam channel (mkc0pr) which belongs to Mike (AC0PR) and it is devoted mostly to SOTA and QRP using CW. He uses the same setup, and the rig sure seems to work well for him. Anyway, enjoyed the video as usual. 73

Nice video. I use my T1 with a Mountain Topper 5 bander. I participate in SOTA so it helps me change bands really quickly with nothing more than a wire for an antenna. de K7FOP

So fun watching this!! Is the ground counterpart wire the same length as the perched on branch wire? Or it is the tuner that fixes any unbalances?

    • @hamradiocq
      @hamradiocq  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I do believe they are the same lengths and the tuner does the balancing act as well.

John Kelley I should havr mentioned it. I think I'm at about 600 above sea level. St Louis Missouri. The hill I'm on is probably about 100 feet up above the other ground relatively.
So eastern Missouri to Virginia. I probably threw the antenna up about 18 feet.
Missouri to Virginia is nothing special but being able to do it so rapidly was unexpected.
