Piers, I agree so much. It was a time when we could be happy and enjoy life.I was a kid in the 80s. We were so optimistic. Today everything is fear and hate.
I was 20 in 1980 so the 80's were really good to me, I was single with no responsibilities, there was always a band playing somewhere or a decent bar to go to. My kids are all 20 something's and they can't afford the sort of social life I had in the 80's. We didn't have cell phones, the internet or social media. What we had was the what's on page in the local paper, a telephone and a weekly wage so if you were broke by Thursday it didn't matter because Friday was payday.
The world will remember it as how a false flag operation is orchestrated to bomb and overthrow government of Afghanistan and Iraq where millions of innocent people died.
I'll never forget and it all continues to be exactly the same way in bipartisanships about it ALL to never forget about it ALL. The statue of Liberty is actually very representative of my person illuminated, especially the crown and torch in her hand. Illumination feels spiked like that crown, and I carry the torch eternal flame within me. That's exactly how it is what it is.
Santiagueño CARP la película es una de mis preferidas de siempre y para siempre lo será. Quizás la haya visto más de 15 veces... pero nunca me cansa!! Te recomiendo que la veas si puedes; no te decepcionará
I'm almost default against "chick-flicks", but this film shows that female themes don't have to be dumbed-down. I was always a fan, and when I got the DVD for my wife (when she and her friends go to the cinema, the choice of film forces me to bite my tongue...) , she was hooked straight away. What a song and cast!
Yup: getting your song in the soundtrack of a Major Motion Picture just jumped it's budget and quality up by a factor of 10, at least. It's sort of cheating... :-)
Watching this on a boat going to work makes total difference! Hahaha ....almost crying here. What a song! Crazy lyrics but ok...Love it! Love from Portugal!
A masterpiece indeed! Carly is an excellent singer and songwriter! 😍😍😍😍😍😍 Love the 80's! I was a child but If I could go back in time... I really miss that time when people were friendlier and more understanding!!!
I should be bummed that I am now officially old. But I am glad that I grew up when I did (high school class of '73). Like the T-shirt says, "I may be old, but I got to see all the cool bands live." (Like $5 to see The Who, and a free concert in the park featuring Aerosmith and Brownsville Station.)
I watched this last night. Still a wonderful film. And this song couldn’t be more perfect for this movie. Nichols and Simon had a great working relationship with three films - “Heartburn”, “Working Girl” and “Postcards From the Edge” between 1986-1990. Became the first artist to win an Oscar, a Golden Globe and a Grammy for one song composed, written and sung by a single artist.
This song automatically starts playing in my head whenever I have a big professional accomplishment 😂Working Girl will always hold a place in my heart ❤
Jason Downs I know that feeling. God do I know. In a moment, my whole life changed. I can now help others to achieve their goals. That's my mission. That I can give to others without expecting anything in return. Except, that the recipient flows that favor to another when they are able too. Its called the Law of Giving. Every day is a blessing and a gift.
This song's been my morning alarm for God knows how long. Probably since 2020. I personally hope that when the forthcoming Working Girl musical coming to Broadway, this song is included. I could definitely see it as an opening and possibly closing number.
Carly Simon has the most beautiful smile and facial structure of any female vocalist of her generation. She could melt an iceberg with that smile. James Taylor was a lucky guy.
Don't think I can get enough of this song... It's a truly epic and feel-good song, and does remind me a lot of The Lion King - think it's because of the drums and their percussion, and of course how epic it is
I loved the ending when she was telling her friend guess where i am now....she had her own office with her own executive assistant...i felt she finally earn her position..

Jay MacB I'm from Manchester in the North-West of England and agree with you regarding the range of dialects here in the UK! If I were to just walk three or four miles towards Oldham in Lancashire, even before there in Middleton, the accent is drastically different from where I am in Manchester. The UK must be unique in this sense. American accents are again, varied and many. It must be a similar feeling for an American, say from Washington State travelling to Nebraska or South Carolina - the accent, dialect and even the culture to a certain degree must seem alien. I also agree with you Jay MacB with regards to the south of England; although I don't mind the southerners, the way in which they say certain words is akin to finger nails on a blackboard, plus the fact that they genuinally not as friendly as us northerners - fact! I've visited enough to learn that this isn't a stereotype lol. What can be said about Carly Simon? She is one of the most attractive and charismatic performers in history. She is also one of those artists that has never produced a bad record and in that sense is the gift that just keeps on giving! Talented, sexy, feminine, statuesque, highly-intelligent, personable and immensely charismatic......I could also be talking about the superb Sigourney Weaver here aswell - my favourite actress, who is 'yet' to receive an Academy Award! I find this quite stunning really. She was nominated for Gorillas In The Mist and Working Girl....but is yet to win one. Anyway, great comment mate and you're spot on about Carly Simon's dress sense, she always appeared a classy bird......and her hair! Great, great hair! Chris (UK).
this is my before 9/11 song. I also grew up on Staten Island so I was on that ferry all the time as a kid and teenager. Manhattan was the promised land. Where I've lived since '77. ny harbor is my beating heart.
Today smart working is a way to work and when you need it or you can't work from your company's offices, you have the chance to do it: so don't waste time uselessly but use it to work much more smart and your rewards will arrive when you don't expect them!!
Work hard and you will be rewarded? Today is work hard and you will get a nervous breakdown. The bosses only exploit people, that´s all and we are surviving paying the bills everyday.
One of the GOATs in music written specifically for a movie. Carly's music is timeless. Over 30 years and this song is just as fresh as it was in the '80s.
This song takes me to my Mom and Dad Young, early twenties. Fresh out of Pedagogics School @ Xalapa, Mexico They arrived at Mexico City just after WW2. With just a few possessions and Very little money. Renting an apartment, working hard. Elementary school teachers. Barely making ends meet. Raising kids on love and values, and little else. They gave me everything. I owe them the world. Everything I’ve come to love and enjoy and appreciate, I owe to them. Work hard, educate yourself and your kids. May God bless your Family.
I can't not weep when Jack stands up for Tess at the elevators and Oren slips out of the doors to listen to the two of them, leaving everyone else that just wants to sign their deal. There's something glorious about that little scene that is missing in the real life of many audience members I think.
This movie changed my wife’s life when she was 18. She applied to college in NYC and broke a lot of barriers and ceilings inspired by this movie. Excellent film

I need to go watch working girl again right now i remember being a little boy of 10 staying up to watch this on tv. It never left me thinking back. im now 40
I loved this from the very moment I first heard it. It is, I think, a secular spiritual anthem about people navigating life, coming through the fog, and waking to a new dawn in their lives - about personal developement and faith. It always called to me even before I began my own faith path. It prefigured that. It is part of why I think a spiritual faith can be just as beneficial as a religious one. Maybe this song helped me. And finally I have to say that if the sight of the wonderful Carly Simon standing on the back of a ferry and declaiming those opening lyrics does not move you, nothing will. Thank you Ms Simon
Carly, you not only have a powerful and beautiful voice, your spirit shines along with your sparkling eyes and gorgeous smile. I love this song. Thank you.

Carly Simon - Let the river run
We're coming to the edge
Running on the water
Coming through the fog
Your sons and daughters
Let the river run
Let all the dreamers
Wake the nation
Come, the New Jerusalem
Silver cities rise
The morning lights
The streets that lead them
And sirens call them on with a song
It's asking for the taking
Trembling, shaking
Oh, my heart is aching
We're coming to the edge
Running on the water
Coming through the fog
Your sons and daughters
We the great and small
Stand on a star
And blaze a trail of desire
Through the darkling dawn
It's asking for the taking
Come run with me now
The sky is the color of blue
You've never even seen
In the eyes of your lover
Oh, my heart is aching
We're coming to the edge
Running on the water
Coming through the fog
Your sons and daughters
It's asking for the taking
Trembling, shaking
Oh, my heart is aching
We're coming to the edge
Running on the water
Coming through the fog
Your sons and daughters
Let the river run
Let all the dreamers

Coming through the fog
Your sons and daughters
Let the river run
Let all the dreamers
Wake the nation
Come, the New Jerusalem
Silver cities rise
The morning lights
The streets that meet them
And sirens call them on
With a song
It's asking for the taking
Trembling, shaking
Oh, my heart is aching
We're coming to the edge
Running on the water
Coming through the fog
Your sons and daughters
We the great and small
Stand on a star
And blaze a trail of desire
Through the dark'ning dawn
It's asking for the taking
Come run with me now
The sky is the color of blue
You've never even seen
In the eyes of your lover
Oh, my heart is aching
We're coming to the edge
Running on the water
Coming through the fog
Your sons and daughters
It's asking for the taking
Trembling, shaking
Oh, my heart is aching
We're coming to the edge
Running on the water
Coming through the fog
Your sons and daughters
Let the river run (let the river run)
Let all the dreamers (let all the dreamers)
Wake the nation (wake the nation)
Come, the New Jerusalem
Thank you 💜
Thank you. Now I know what lyrics I'm crying to!
Thanks to you my neighbors are hating me but I don’t care!!!

"Darkling Dawn"
Awesome Oscar winning song. Powerful performance with her wonderfully smooth tones is what makes it great for me!!!
God i miss those days in the 80s. Everything was so exciting and had a buzz about it. It's not like that now.
AND THE BIG MALL HAIR!!! CARLY, U PEACH!!!
that buzz was from the high quality coke...
@@emillyyelen5169 HAHAHAHAHA, NOT THIS KID, I DONT MAKE DRUGGIES ANY RICHER THAN THEY R ALREADY. GO L V RAIDERS !!!
This song has so much meaning. Seeing the Twin Towers gives me chills. I live on Long Island and knew too many that perished 💔 NEVER FORGET
The world will remember it as how a false flag operation is orchestrated to bomb and overthrow government of Afghanistan and Iraq where millions of innocent people died.
Ditto
And yet we have so forgotten
Never forget, never forgive
I'll never forget and it all continues to be exactly the same way in bipartisanships about it ALL to never forget about it ALL. The statue of Liberty is actually very representative of my person illuminated, especially the crown and torch in her hand. Illumination feels spiked like that crown, and I carry the torch eternal flame within me. That's exactly how it is what it is.
Magical song and better movie!! I love this film
come the new Jerusalem😙😙😙🎬😙😙🎬
A mi me gusta la música , la película no la vi...😔😔😔😔
Nice movie, better song.
I miss when actors were in the soundtrack music videos. I miss soundtracks. Now I gotta go watch this movie, everybody was in it. The hairspray alone
@Michael Henry bro, i was born in the 80s. Yikes. Drink some metamucil
Yup: getting your song in the soundtrack of a Major Motion Picture just jumped it's budget and quality up by a factor of 10, at least. It's sort of cheating... :-)
Remember when the going gets tough by Billy Ocean from Jewel of the Nile? Michael Douglas, Kathleen Turner and Danny Devito were in the video
Working Girl is a great one.
@@theglamourisgone5669 Not the cameo by the man who we cannot name for copyright reasons. As well as the... Hahhhhmmmmf. :P
Watching this on a boat going to work makes total difference! Hahaha ....almost crying here. What a song! Crazy lyrics but ok...Love it! Love from Portugal!
Have loved this song ever since I first heard it. Thanks, Carly!
Carly at her most beautiful, lovely, gorgeous, pretty, sweet. Damn, cant find a superlative that describes
this vision of loveliness.
A masterpiece indeed! Carly is an excellent singer and songwriter! 😍😍😍😍😍😍 Love the 80's! I was a child but If I could go back in time... I really miss that time when people were friendlier and more understanding!!!
We’re still out there 💪
I should be bummed that I am now officially old.
I get teary eyed every time I see the end of Working Girl and she thinks she's the secretary and then realizes she's the boss.
Jason Downs its such a great movie. Forever a classic and this song is just amazing.
+Jason I get teary eyed when men open their mouths.
+BLTKellys But that doesn't mean she's just like the others. She can still make the difference :)
BLTKellys Yep, an ant who's on her way to taking over Manhattan :)
Another great song that stood the test of time... Most modern artists can only dream about releasing a song of this quality.
This song's been my morning alarm for God knows how long. Probably since 2020. I personally hope that when the forthcoming Working Girl musical coming to Broadway, this song is included. I could definitely see it as an opening and possibly closing number.
80's movies made New York appear so exciting and energetic!
That’s exactly how New York is 👌🏽
But many homeless were living on the streets back then. Sad.
very true, especially with the ubiquitous World Trade Center. It was so grandiose.
New York used to be like that but sadly no more. Too many politics have ruined it.
Because it was. Hot in the city....
I first heard this song at the end of the film when Melanie Griffith says "Guess where I am" ... so powerful!
She has such a beautiful voice, and she's such an amazing woman.
I can't have enough of this song... it is just perfect, sublime... Carly, you are timeless.
Definitely her best song, absolutely love this❤
Love the tension and release in the music. Especially on the phrase "Oh my heart is aching".
Makes me think of all the people, actually entire generations, that we have lost since the 80s.
Love this song, it was absolutely perfect in Working Girl, both for the intro and for the ending.
Agreed. By itself, it is just good but the music is perfect for the movie. Blends well.
Carly Simon is so talented, she really does great here.
Carly Simon has the most beautiful smile and facial structure of any female vocalist of her generation. She could melt an iceberg with that smile. James Taylor was a lucky guy.
She dumped him and married some other guy by the time this song was written. Taylor f’d up.
Agreed. She looks insanely pretty in this video despite it being filmed later in her career.
@@nickpavia9021 I agree with you. She was a total babe.
One of the BEST endings ever. Couldn't agree more!
But then the camera pulls back and as it does you see that she is just one of thousands, it was a subtle message from Mike Nichols.
One of my favorite movies
Both the song and the movie show me exactly what I miss about the 80's.
Melanie Griffith was ADORABLE in this film!! classic
trha2222 Not to be a downer...wall street is the same, always was, is and always will be. Maybe a cute movie, love story....but not much has changed....
trha2222 I hope she doesn't re-do that scene where she's cleaning the apartment just wearing panties and stockings!
yeah, and coked up through-out. love you, sister!
Saw the film 'Working Girl' here in England in 1988. Great film. This song takes me right back to being 16.
for french people Quebec accent is kinda funny, is american accent funny to british people ?
Chris (UK).
thanks
Very good!
Snap !! :)
this is my before 9/11 song. I also grew up on Staten Island so I was on that ferry all the time as a kid and teenager. Manhattan was the promised land. Where I've lived since '77. ny harbor is my beating heart.
I could listen to this song all day long!
whatch the movie, simple beautiful.

Me as well! Just watched the first two eps of season 2.

Then you MUST watch "Working Girl". And that goes for man or woman!!! Top notch movie!!!
‘Working Girl’, great movie from the 80’s and the message still has merit. Work smart and you’ll be rewarded.
exacly
Yessssssss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Today smart working is a way to work and when you need it or you can't work from your company's offices, you have the chance to do it: so don't waste time uselessly but use it to work much more smart and your rewards will arrive when you don't expect them!!
What a pretty woman ,hello sweetness.
Work hard and you will be rewarded? Today is work hard and you will get a nervous breakdown. The bosses only exploit people, that´s all and we are surviving paying the bills everyday.
Who wanna comeback to those times? 🙋🏻♂️
One of the GOATs in music written specifically for a movie. Carly's music is timeless. Over 30 years and this song is just as fresh as it was in the '80s.
This song gives hope. We need it now in these troubled times even more than ever. Miss the 80's
This song never gets old....so beautiful....lots of great memories. I miss the 80's.
This song takes me to my Mom and Dad
Young, early twenties. Fresh out of Pedagogics School @ Xalapa, Mexico
They arrived at Mexico City just after WW2. With just a few possessions and
Very little money.
It would be so nice for people to go against the flow 😢 Harrison Ford just straight up believes in her so much!
Such a great song and movie!
This movie changed my wife’s life when she was 18. She applied to college in NYC and broke a lot of barriers and ceilings inspired by this movie. Excellent film
The same happened with me...
Me tooxx
I watched this movie yesterday. I saw it in middle school the first time and it was a very touching movie.

Iconic. Her voice, those words, still gives me goosebumps in 2023.
Fabulous song and singer. Always feel like crying at the beginning seeing the towers in the background. But this lady has always been So talented. Tina Neilsen.🌺🇦🇺
The misty and distant image of the Twin Towers, and this song distant in time creates a double sensation of melancholy
The elevators and lobby scenes were filmed in one of the towers! ❤
I need to go watch working girl again right now i remember being a little boy of 10 staying up to watch this on tv. It never left me thinking back. im now 40
love this woman great songwriter timeless .she can really sing and can write some great lyrics .
Carly's music still makes people smile ...she needs to record another song for her fans asap!
Absolute Masterpiece ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I loved this from the very moment I first heard it. It is, I think, a secular spiritual anthem about people navigating life, coming through the fog, and waking to a new dawn in their lives - about personal developement and faith. It always called to me even before I began my own faith path. It prefigured that. It is part of why I think a spiritual faith can be just as beneficial as a religious one. Maybe this song helped me. And finally I have to say that if the sight of the wonderful Carly Simon standing on the back of a ferry and declaiming those opening lyrics does not move you, nothing will. Thank you Ms Simon
Amazing words! I agree!
Grande! Bravissimo!! Perfectly stated.
Then you MUST watch "Working Girl". And that goes for man or woman!!! Top notch movie!!!
Carly, you not only have a powerful and beautiful voice, your spirit shines along with your sparkling eyes and gorgeous smile. I love this song. Thank you.
This song will give all you need to fight the good fight. I always feel like a frickin warrior after listening to this.

Carly Simon hit a home run with this record. Such a classic 🎙️
I saw this movie at the theater when it came out. I remember hearing Carly Simon's song on the theater's great sound system. It's hard to believe that it was 31 years ago.
Same here... Gosh, those were great times...💜

La película no fue de 1985 🤔
...she's always fabulous and this is an iconic, film anthem with the added bonus of the video framing the Twin Towers so prominently, certainly one of her very best songs...)
It's almost like the Towers were background characters themselves.
she is so fantastic....wow..
I love this movie, this song and Carly Simon, a great singer and soul.
What a wonderful movie. I love the 80-90s, America's golden age.

So many versions of this song out now after so many years. This is the still the best one.
This song was played during tonight's episode of the The Simpsons "S31 E02 - Go Big or Go Homer". I must have heard this back in 1989 but I completely forgot about it. Nice to refresh my memory of it. Nice tune.

Qué gente más hermosa me recibió de los Estados Unidos de América. Soy bendecido de haber tenido tan bella familia norteamericana. Un cariño gigante desde Chile. Mi país.
