- ABSOLUTE DEVASTATION IN ALASKA.
Over 150 homes were flooded in Juneau when the glacier lake dropped flooding the area hear by. A state of emergency has been declared and many cruise ships have diverted from the area while they recover and evaluate the damage.

The news media is not talking about this at all! Dammit! These people need help! As a cruiser I’m pissed that this is not getting more attention
We down Windsor Vermont u.s. Had your beautiful lights down here s Sunday night, never had them before, don't know. Why but sure we're beautiful
@@maryhutt4263 WTH are you talking about!
So sorry to hear about the disaster in Juneau; glad to hear no one was injured. This may be a good opportunity for the cruise lines to generate some goodwill in the area by stepping up and assisting with the relief efforts.
It was suicide basin which is an area where glacier/ ice field melt accumulated. Its a lake formed by melt water and called by ice. When it releases, its like pulling the plug on an over filled bathtub. It happens every year, but last two years have been extreme. The heat is melting the ice field fast! I live in Juneau.
Thanks for the explanation.
Perhaps they can build new structures higher off the ground on stilts like beach or river houses.
@@bluegold21you say this with zero knowledge. If global warming is real we must stop all first world countries that are killing the planet for monopoly money. But blame the natural life of the planet. Bet you think Nixon received a call from the moon.
Oil greed and ignorance caused the glacier to melt? Really? 😂
@@bluegold21 Sounds like your predisposition won't allow you to see anything but what you _want_ to see. Have you talked to an actual scientist or geologist in Alaska? Global warming isn't measured year by year, but decade by decades, preferably about 30 year intervals. In addition, the global warming you're insisting on is taken from places that are different than they were when initiated. Temperatures are supposed to be taken in a natural setting, about 50 feet or more from any building, street or man-made structure. With the grow of cities, the locations of the temperatures are often the same, but 'civilization' has encroached up on it, and the big city temperatures are often taken at airports.
In case you've forgotten, the Great Lakes were _all_ formed by melting glaciers and all formed in prehistoric times. It's not like glaciers melting is anything new; it's been happening for millions of years.
Can't believe this is the first I'm hearing about this! Hope all affective get whatever help they need. Praying 🙏 for all.
We need to realize that 100 homes may not seem like a lot to people who live in towns that have been hit by tornados, or flooding in places like Alabama and Louisiana, but getting the supplies and resources to recover is going to be unbelievably difficult in a remote area like that. And I’m sure that they won’t finish before the really cold winter hits. Praying for those people.
Duh
@@bac9346 does it make you happy to be so rude? Ive been through this type of devastation when people didn’t have a clue how difficult it was to recover. Why wouldn't you want to raise awareness? I oray that you never have to go through this yourself.
@@sandytaylor9393 Duh? Really. Sandy you are absolutely right, devastation caused by floods, hurricanes and fires is absolutely heart breaking. Not only the loss of home, precious belongings but peoples lives. We lost our 20 year old son, who was a volunteer firefighter during bushfires here in Australia and it something we will never get over. To have a rude a blasé and uncaring remark is repulsive. I’m so sorry that you had to go through such a horrible experience and pray that that all is well now. Recovering from this kind of devastation takes years, something that @bac9346 has no idea about. Have a blessed day.
@@bac9346 Duh? Really! What a rude remark, obviously you haven’t experienced this kind of devastation. Homes, personal belongings and people’s lives could be lost and you say Duh, where is your compassion. I’m amazed at the fact that you don’t care for the people and communities that have to recover from something as horrible as this. How sad.🇦🇺
@@Chatty_crafter thank you. We are fine. God bless
My heart goes out to those folks, and I'll add them to my prayer list. Devastation by flooding, fire, landslides, and storms has been unprecedented this year---many, many towns and cities and natural areas have been badly hit. I hope those folks can get resituated before winter arrives. God Bless.
Prayer for the people in Juneau. Thank you for reporting this.
Thank you Don for covering the situation in Alaska
That is terrible news for that area of Alaska. I am glad there was no loss of life.
So sorry for the residents whose homes were flooded. Hope they recover quickly.
People in NY and PA were flooded yesterday too. Just a reminder that global change is affecting everyone.
Consider this, and I did not know it until I did my first Alaska cruise. Juneau is the only State Capital in the world that has NO highways connecting it to anywhere. By sea and by plane. That's all you got to get in or out. Now imagine that evacuation scenario.
My understanding is a lot of people own their own planes. On our last cruise the bus ride out of Juneau to the airport the driver told us this factoid.
Juneau and Honolulu**
Thanks for the update Don, apparently it has been decided to not be covered by American news outlets...
Our prayers go out the those people. Hopefully there homes can be repaired quickly and they are alright. Gratefully no one was injured. And no lives lost.
That is such a tragedy! Praying they get the assistance they need. That is such a beautiful area.
Thanks for the updates, Don. It's so sad to hear of such bad news. Prayers for all under this catastrophe.
Praying for everybody in Juneau, Alaska who are flooded. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
I am really sure that prayers will help the people 3ho lost their homes a real lot.
@@unlvqasl How do you know it doesn't help?
Didn’t God cause the flooding in the first place?
I live in Switzerland 🇨🇭, we also had a lot of landslides, mudslides and lots of flooding. Warmer climate is not a good friend for mountains!
All the Methane released too…. I’m surprised that we don’t develop an energy grid out of Methane
😂
The Northeast Kingdom of Vermont was hit twice in the past month with devastating floods. They were still recovering from the floods of 2 years ago.
Prayers for these people involve, hope they get all the help they need. Love Alaska One of the most Beautiful places you can cruise to.
I hope Juneau residents get all the help to recover quickly, its so hard to get supplies up there.
Always great info on here. Do you know why all Bridge cams on Princess are not working David
my nephew lives in Juneau and they had a lot of damage to their home.
Winter is coming not going to get their homes fixed before winter. When things start freezing up their homes will be gone. That is sad.
That's awful, water damage but also freezing cold water is the worst.
Saw that glacier last summer. Gorgeous sorry to hear for the people affected
So very sorry to see this. Prayers for each of these families.
Best wishes to our Alaskan friends!
Prayers for the people in Juneau Alaska. I was told that FEMA flood insurance only covers 250K, so even though I am in flood zone X, I have private insurance. I am in Florida and there was a lot of flooding after this tropical storm Debbie. And though I had no flooding here, the retention ponds are very full. My point is, if there's even remote chance of flooding you need private flood insurance. The average home cost is about 450K.
Thank you for posting this. You’re absolutely right. It could have been so much worse. Thank goodness there was no loss of life or major injuries.
Most home owners insurane dors not cover flooding.
Hope the residents recover quickly
I was just there in June. I walked over to the big Falls.
Hi Don it’s good to hear that no one was hurt, just seeing the photo you have shown it certainly looks devastating, cheers Don
My prayers are with all involved with this devastation.
It is also my favorite cruise.🙏🙏🙏🙏
So sad to hear this. Such a beautiful place. I took the Alaskan cruise several years ago with my 5 sisters. It was a wonderful experience and so beautiful! God bless all of you who are homeless or suffering in other ways from this disaster. ❤
My thoughts and prayers are with those affected by the flooding.
Glacier are growing in anchorage. There still snow in the mountains. It happens every 7 to 10 years. Cloud coverage blocks out so much UV rays. Its not carbon.
Earth's increasing axial tilt not you is thawing frozen CO2 in the Arctic and will cause Noah's east to west tidal deluges. These are just the birthing pains. Every mountain will be laid low and valley filled.
Repent believe in the word warnings of God our Father and be saved or
Hello. Thank You for the report. I used to live in Fairbanks in the 80's and the permafrost and glaciers were melting then. I love to look on Google Earth and make videos about the places I find. I just did one on the Juneau Ice Sheets and noticed the extra water everywhere. Back then, the furthest north a person could drive without a snowmobile, was the city of North Pole. Now we can drive hundreds of miles further. The Earth changes, but we usually can't notice the difference in our lifetime, but now we can. I don't think the caps are supposed to melt this quickly, but that's what we are dealing with. Be safe and prepared everyone! Anymore, anything can happen. The best we can do is try to be ready for anything.
So very sad to hear prayers for all those beautiful people in Alaska, who have been affected by this tragedy. After taking my very first cruise to Alaska this year I totally understand why you love it so much. I can’t wait for the opportunity to go back!
Actually, the final count of homes damaged/flooded was 290, which was way more than originally reported. As another resident of Juneau has said, Suicide Basin is a side basin of the Mendenhall Glacier. Since 2011, it has released glacial lake outburst floods that inundate the Mendenhall Lake and river 1-3 times each summer. Last several years, only a fee houses along the river were affected. Then last August, we had a record flood (crested at 14.97’) that damaged many houses along the river and even one fell in. Almost lost an entire condo building. This year, almost exactly a year later August 6, 2024, we had another record breaking flood event where the river crested at 16’. This time instead of just those along the river, we flooded inward about a half a mile in some places. It was devastating. Even though we knew about the potential of the flood 24 hours in advance, no one suspected just how much the valley would actually flood this time around. It caught EVERYONE by surprise. Many folks looked out their windows around the time it crested and didn’t see any water on their street. Then 1/2 hour later they woke up to 2-4 feet of water inside their homes (homes that were not expected to be in the path.) SURPRISE!!! Final count was 290 homes that were damaged by flood waters. The water came within a couple of blocks from my home. Juneau is a great community. We have come together to help our fellow neighbors in their time of need. Still a lot of work to be done drying out houses and ripping everything out. Hopefully, our government agencies and our community will put their heads together and figure out a way to prevent this. Not holding my breath.
Hi Don, OMG prayers for all of them.
FEMA pays a max of 30k on uninsured residence zero on rentals if insured all flood insurance is FEMA throughout the USA all 50 states. If insured they will file claims with their contract claims adjuster.
My thoughts go out to those affected by this tragedy.
Wow, that's crazy!! Hopefully, they don't find any casualties.
Just goes to show how much we need the glaciers and the unimaginable devastation they can unleash.
We visited Alaska because of yours and Tony's videos. We loved Juneau the most and our walk down to Mendenhall Lake. We really want to go back for another cruise there in the future.
Look at photos of any of Alaskas glaciers 40 years ago. The warmer it gets the faster they melt.
thanks for your up dates
Prayers will continue for those in Alaska. Praise God that there hasn’t been any fatalities🙌🏻 One of our absolute favorite places on earth. Thanks for sharing this update Don. Continued fun and safe travels for you and Tony🥰
Sad news they’re in our prayers
Thank you for this information
It simply is devastating...fires, floods, earthquakes and hurricanes and tornadoes..just rough in that terrain and beauty and weather.
thanks for your video. It was very informative in our prayers to the people of Juno. We love that place and I’m so sad for those people. I hope they recover quickly. Thank you again.❤❤❤🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Prayers to all those people affected by this. Thank goodness they were able to get everyone out in time. My husband and I went on a cruise to Alaska for our honeymoon in 2009, including a visit to Mendenhall Glacier. It's an amazing place - we loved it. It's heartbreaking to hear about the issues Alaska has been having. 😢
It’s a sad situation for families to be displaced from the comfort of their homes and their routines. As long as there is life there is hope. ✌🏼
Thanks for letting us know Don
Don, you beat the TV news channels on reporting this! So sorry to hear the sad news. Fingers crossed, the gov't. will get their act together and send aid ASAP!
Wow that is not good and not easy to get supplies up there quickly.
Thanks for the update. We hear nothing about AK in the lower 48.
Just got back from Alaska 3 weeks ago. What has happened? Oh no. 100 homes destroyed and families displaced. Oh boy. Thank God there was time to evacuate everyone and no one hurt.
That is an exaggeration
Went to Alaska for the first time in May. Beautiful part of the world abd such friendly people. Met a number of Australians working there for the summer. Thinking of the beautiful Alaskan people this season. Love from downunder Australia 🇦🇺 ❤️
Was in Juneau last month. So very sorry to hear this. Praying for the families who have been flooded out. It’s such a lot of work either cleaning the houses or replacing the house and all the possessions.
Great video Don ❤ Very heart-felt 😢
How sad but glad everyone is safe.
Praying for all those affected....
Don, loving your new delivery format and video endings like this one; just panning the landscape while your recommendations appear. Keep up the great format! 💜💜
Prayers for those effected by flood
This use to happen in Stewart BC. But the Bear Glacier has retreated so much it no longer happens.
Unfortunately Don, FEMA doesn’t reimburse for “ALL” this money. I wish it was that easy. People need to begin with their homeowners insurance as step one and build from there.
Thanks for loving our Alaska USA!? Junea 🙏💜
We are on a cruise next week and have the tour planned. Don't know if they will still fo it. Prayers and thoughts to the family's in the flooded area.
Oh no😮😮😮Just had a wonderful cruise to Alaska
Praying for Alaska. How tragic.
Oh my😮
Thoughts and prayers. Hmmm. Wonder why these things keep happening. Hopefully this is just a once in a gazillion year event. I know better. Good Luuuckkk
People don’t rely on the news media or the government. 🤯
Hope everyone keeps a positive and recovers quickly
Praying 🙏🏼 for those in Alaska.
Thank God the authorities acted quickly. Sorry for their devistating loss of property and cherished memories.
If it had to happen, at least there was time to evacuate. So sorry for the losses. Can’t imagine. ❤
Really hate to hear this. So sad for those who are affected. 🙏🙏🙏
Lets hope this doesn't keep opening up the warmer it gets.
You can be sure it's going to get worse. But you can also guarantee that the republican governors won't react appropriately. They are happy to take the oil cash and let the lay people suffer the consequences.
Was just there in June. Devastating for the residents. 🙏🙏
It happens every year. We heard about how it happens every year last year. If you live in a flood zone then don't be surprised.
Thank you for this report! Terrible!!🙏🙏
prayers to the families
Thankful my brother isn't in that part of Alaska anymore
So sorry to hear about this disaster! These people are in need of serious help from FEMA!
Okeedokee...just waiting for Alaska cruise passengers to start complaining they're not going to get their excursion there.
And quite possible many will be uninsured...they built in a known flood plain
I hope they don’t rebuild the homes in the same flood zone. Obviously unsafe.
Prayers for Alaska. Such a beautiful place and can't wait to be back there next year.
🙏🙏🙏. To those folks being involved in the flood.
Love you, Don, have a great day. great video. once again thanks for the news. love watching you at lunch time
wow... What a mess. Sorry that the WP Rail was wrecked. I didn't hear details he mentioned earlier about cruise ships being reduced. We are going there next month. Hmmmm.
Landslide at Chilcotin is flooding regions below now too. Earthquakes & volcanoes all around kids.
How sad, an entire village wiped out. Seems like there is a black cloud over Alaska😢
No. About 1-2% of houses in Juneau were affected. No homes were lost. The flooding lasted about 16 hours, and the worst affected homes had 4 feet of water in them. I live in Juneau. I assure you that 98% of Juneau was unaffected by the event.
I hope the government treats Juneau better than they did Lahaina. 😢
Wow!! Sad for Alaska what a mess
It technically was a dam bursting. A ice dam from the Mendenhall glacier, it happens to some extent every year.
Thanks Don
was just visiting that lake area in front of the glacier on a cruise last week! Wow! that is a shock
