My wife and I are moving to Kentwood in a few days. These kinds of videos are really useful to help my wife get an idea of what life will be like in the area. I'm originally from Michigan and even lived in Comstock Park about 23 years ago, but my wife was born and raised in Nebraska. It is really awesome hearing her get excited about things to do in the GR area! Thank you!
Thinking about moving (from Oregon) to Grand Rapids but still doing some homework on its suburbs, weather, housing, I’m retired but keep myself busy so accessibility to entertainment, restaurants, shopping is important.
Don't bring a vehicle, there is a severe shortage of parking. Some say they get a ticket just parking on the street in front of their house, or apartment. Traffic is the worst, with the most rude drivers, as any other city in the Midwest, including Chicago and Detroit. The area is full of so-called Trump cultists and conservatives in name only snake oil salesmen.
I am retired and live there. Wonderful activities, adult learning at Aquinas College and Calvin University for very little money for those over 50, lots of festivals in the summer, nice little neighborhoods.
@knittylane3016 glad you can afford a place to live here. There's 800 plus folks here who can't. Plenty of opportunities to help others in and around GR.
Good video. I'm a long time Grand Rapids resident. It may not be as big as Chicago or New York, but for a city of its size Grand Rapids and the surrounding area has so much to offer. And some of the best real estate rates in the country and as climate change effects so many areas of the country, it being surrounded by the Great lakes is going to make it very very attractive to so many people. But dude. Clean your shirt before you do a video!
Not for long, there's a housing shortage and the roads are already decades beyond capacity. You can see this in this video. Taxes, property, and rents are skyrocketing for the whole county. People can't even park on the streets where they live in some areas, they have fines and will tow it away for you. There is no free parking downtown, and they've put in parking meters that now extend to 10:00 PM but will go 24/7 before long. Plenty of meter maids, they just hired another 10. But, at least it is not as bad as Houston, LA, and New York City yet. Worse than Chicago though. Road rage is a problem throughout the county. Worst drivers on this side of the Mississippi. And, if you flip a driver off you can expect retaliation. If you can't handle it, I suggest getting a bus pass. Remember this: It always sounds like a good place to live when local realtors are hawking social media on the internet.
@@roberttarrh3969 what you just described is true everywhere not just in Grand rapids. As for free parking downtown go to any large city can you find that our parking rates are more than reasonable. In Chicago if you want to go to dinner downtown, you can automatically expect an extra 30 or $40 just for parking.
The amphitheatre has to be voted on, and there are some high crime areas like most cities that u need to know about before you move here .. and it's definitely near downtown

Hi @juliegaines8750 . It is! Let me know if there’s anything local that you think I should cover in future videos. 👍
Name one thing that is beautiful about it? You must be a realtor. Buyer Beware!
@@roberttarrh3969In my opinion it’s a great place to live. In fact, I just moved back.

You’ll have that in every city. Just be aware of where you are.
