- In this video I show you some clips of how to get that corvette sound out of your LS powered truck.
Basic setup of the truck: 6.0 lq4, .030 milled 799 heads, ls7 lifters, tsp 7.45 pushrods, ls2 timing chain, high pressure melling oil pump, TBSS Intake, 216/220 cam 112 lsa .550 lift split, 4l80e 4K FTI Stall, 1 3/4 speed engineering headers, full dual 3 inch exhaust, 3 inch corsa sport pro series mufflers.

It's definitely nice to see some more people working on equal length exhausts with crossovers on trucks. It sounds 100x better than the unequal length/"true dual" setups that everyone wants on their vehicles.
Agreed. My truck (profile pic) had true duals and it sounded bad. I reverted to a full 3 inch stainless single, factory exit, long tube, no cats. 1 super10 and 1 TRX muffler as a resonator lol. Good noise under power but I love this guy's corsa setup.
It's that chug-a-lug that sounds like some old 1970s muscle car. It's what I liked about my c10 before I blew up the 350. Now that it's getting an L83 I plan on going with a similar setup to the OP's video
I don’t understand the difference between what you mean “equal length” vs “true duals”. I just did a nice X pipe setup with corsa mufflers that is symmetrical on both sides on my LS 69 camaro trying to get that vette sound and it sounds like a truck with exhaust.

My neighbor has a new vette, he said he loves to hear my truck start in the morning, he said it may even sound better than the vette :lol:. Truck is a 6.2L BOSS w/411HP. Looks like flowmaster with a true dual and crossover.
Do the headers have to be equal length?

Damn this thing sounds SO good! This is definitely going on the list of to-do's for my truck. My motor is really similar all the way down to .030 milled and ported 243 heads. Just a different cam. Awesome work man. Your truck is killer.

@@TheWolfMatt never had it on the dyno, but it’s definitely over 400. It runs hard. Have a bigger cam ready to throw in it right now too.

DUDE THIS IS INSANE. People don’t realize how hard it is to replicate sounds because exhaust notes have a lot to do with the way the exhaust is shaped, size and length. Fucking great job man

I picked up a cateye a few months ago. It’s the same color as yours. I have that crapy side exhaust I don’t like it. It’s cut short bc of the leaf spring. I’m definitely going this route. Appreciate the upload. Sounds great!

It's the X crossover that makes that sound. The system is very well done and although not exactly my thing, I appreciate the sound he made with the end result. I cringe at cutting out that crossmember tho'.
With a truck there is so much real estate there must be a better way than cutting that tubing out. I'm very familiar with that crossmember on the chevrolet trucks and just can't fathom cutting it out and not putting something back in. Still a great sound system in the end. Notice I called it a sound system, better than the radio!
Exhaust note is everything! Dad taught me this 50 years ago with his favorite stuff at the time. His daily driver 1967 Olds 442 ran oval "hush thrush" mufflers, similar to the "cherry bomb" a straight thru thrush muffler was a long can shaped glasspack without the rounded ends. The hush thrush was an oval normal looking muffler with a very cool paint job out of the box, but they flowed well for the time and the sound was money back then.
There is no way around getting rid of the crossmember when doing this type of system, if you don’t the pipes will be directly under the driveshaft and the driveshaft will definitely hit it. This truck was involved in a accident and I rebuilt it myself. Cutting out the cross member doesn’t bother me in the slightest. I’m keeping this thing forever and I don’t think it’s that structurally needed. People who drag race these truck cut most of them out as well, and they’re still very rigid. Through, I have thought about fab’ing up a alternative crossbar to replace this one. But I don’t see how it’s possible with the exhaust and driveshaft in the way

Damn youre giving away the secrets lol Ive been runnjng this set up for 3 years now. I used speed engineering headers, a mustang x pipe, and magnaflow dual entry/duall exit with turn downs before the axle. I always get ask why my truck sounds the way it does.

My exhaust fell off the other day and lost bank 2 sensor 2. Cat seemed to overheat on tht side shortly after AND simultaneously a coil decided to leave the chat. So it ran horrible. Cut the trash cans off, both were almost completely plugged. So now insanely loud and ran horrible. Installed used modern coil packs and built exhaust from end of downpipes back to cheap x-pipe (right where pass side cat was) and it just terminates at that because i ran out of daylight. It sounds INSANE. No tune and its getting better as i drive and it learns. It doesnt even break up at WOT anymore. I think if i run all the way back, ill be pretty close to the Corvette sound. True duals are dumb, exhaust scavenging is so much more important than anyone seems to realize. Your truck sounds awesome. Mines an 01' 2500hd with the 6.0. shes a knarly old tow truck, its about time it sounded like it too hahahaha

You can also do an equal-length performance Y-pipe using the 4/3 rule. Basically, whatever your collector/extension diameter is (which shouldn't be too big for the engine's output AKA you don't need dual 3" unless you're over 600whp) your single outlet needs to be 4/3 that diameter. Doing a little bit of rounding, dual 2.25 would be roughly single 3, dual 2.5 would be single 3.5, and dual 3 would be single 4. The 4/3 rule also works really well for custom X-pipes. Basically, get two shallow-angle elbows of your normal pipe (45 degrees or less) and cut 1/3 the diameter off of each before welding them together. If you have oversized duals (IE dual 3" on a sub 600whp setup) then you could do the 5/4 rule for making an X-pipe to bump velocity and scavenging a bit.

I love it! I hate that typical clappy "truck" sound and have been watching exhaust setup videos trying to find a way to get rid of it. This is a little too loud for what I want for my DD. But definitely informative for getting that more "sporty" sounding exhaust.
Loudness is all from the mufflers. Find quieter mufflers and you’ll be good to go!

I found this cluster on eBay actually. Was just a pre built custom SS cluster. Trans temp is built in and plug and play

I have a 78 box Chevy and i pretty much have the same exact set up you have milled heads to but I don’t want caprice sounding like a old school I want that corvette ss sound
The shop I went to modified a stamped xpipe to have 45s coming out the front. It’s all mild steel but came out pretty clean. Waiting on mufflers now

Best LS truck I’ve heard. Will be doing mine but I want to know how much it would cost to do the piping since I already got long tube headers and will order corsa mufflers myself.
I think I spend around 250-270 in piping. The biggest cost item was the x-pipe. It sucks that I had to buy a whole kit for a CTSV just to get the x-pipe I needed. If you can scrounge just finding the correct style x pipe it won’t cost as much. But you’ll need a x pipe that 45’s in the front and then is straight going back.

Bruhhh this sounds crazy. I have a gen III with a SS2 cam going in to my s10 with a GTO clutch and flywheel. Hope it sounds like this. 2 mufflers 2 resonators and an x pipe
At work and didn’t have a chance to watch the whole vid but heard the sound of the truck. Sounds just like a vette, but is your engine a vortec? What all have you done to it? Is it just different cams and exhaust that contribute to it or does a tune affect it too?
So I know the main thing is keeping them about same length..but would sound be affected if for example it can’t go all the way to rear of truck? It would stop right before axle?

Doesn’t scrape on anything. Pipes are about even with the bottom of the gas tank. I’m with you on not going turbo now. I have plans for a 2.9L whipple now

What would it require to have an LS powered vehicle to sound like ir similar to a Ferrari or Lamborghini? I was talking with an engine builder that makes a flatplane crankshaft for the LS engine. Equal length headers would probably be also required. Am I missing anything else that I might be forgetting. Thanks

I welded it all myself so I couldn’t tell you. If you were to go to a shop to do this, I would imagine it would be 600-700 bucks

This is just a custom SS cluster with blue needles. Full interior came from a 05 Denali as well! Heated seats and power seats all work as well
Did your truck originally come with power seats to make it plug & play???? My truck is a basic, has the manual seat adjustment, I would really like to have power seats, out of a different truck!!!!! How hard do you think it would be to had the extra stuff to convert mine over???? @@Chase.bachler
@@paulbritt5959 my seats were not powered before. I had just basic cloth seats. All you need is the body floor harness from the donor vehicle to make the seats powered. It plugs right in to the panel behind the emergency brake. Pretty easy swap. Plug and play. No splicing or programming. You will need the door harnesses and window switches from the donor truck to make the heated seats work though.
@@Chase.bachler Sounds do able on my end, just need to locate a set of seats & the other hardware @ a fair price..... My biggest problem is I'm trying to feed 2 hot rods, a 98 CORVETTE & an 03 SILVERADO. They can drain your wallet quick!!!!!

Hey I’ve been really considering getting this exhaust done for my truck, I’ve asked you before about the price, but how loud is it because I’m still in high school and if it’s way to loud my parents will kill me. I only plan on getting the cat back custom made header and cam will still be stock

Out of curiosity could this be achieved with a single corsa muffler with the headers and y pipe or does it absolutely have to be dual?
No it cannot. I originally bought just one corsa muffler and ran it on a speed engineering y pipe and it sounded no where near this. Sounded like a truck with a regular corsa exhaust still

This is exactly what I’m going for ! I’m doing this on my 2018 Silverado Z71 5.3 single cab short bed. I hope I get the same result even though it is a 5.3 liter. I already have long tube headers and BTR stage 2 cam with a Carven TR exhaust but it has that choppy truck sound. What stage cam do you have on your truck ? Thanks for making this video ! It’s TSP stage 3 truck cam. 216/220 .550/.550 112lsa. You will most definitely have the same sound coming from that 5.3 if the exhaust is built this way. Stay tuned for some more updated videos on the truck. More sound clips and I’ll have comparison vids to my old x pipe setup. Also have a custom grind cam from TSP going in soon. 231/244 duration split. Btw I do work at TSP so if you need anything hit us up!

It does not matter the size of the engine, they both have the same firing order. That's how you get your exhaust note. Yes a came will enhance the sound but it's the firing order! X pipe, not a cross-over.
Even if the X-pipe comes after the cross over you’ll still have the “truck sound” right 🤔 I’m tryna figure out how I can create a truly equal length exhaust on my 2018 chevy, everything’s in the way on the driver side but I do think I can squeeze through and smoothly tuck the X-pipe just after/under the transmission 😅 it’s gonna be a custom ass exhaust but i have to get this right.
Plan B is sacrificing as minimal clearance as possible and just going under the cross member which I know is not ideal 😂 but my truck is stock height (rear blocks removed) and it’s something I’m willing to live with as long as it sounds just like this 🤌🏽

I just started piecing together everything for this exhaust system on my yukon.
I have one question for you though.
On your mufflers are they offset/center, ofset/offset or offset offset (same side).
It was kind of difficult to see in the video. They look to be offset back and center forward but if you could reassure me on that, that would be awesome.

Awesome man. Glad I could be of inspiration for you! And yes they are a offset/center muffler. The offset part is where the tail pipes start, and the center is what is fed from the x pipe

Naw man, those engineers only put that cross member in there because they had some extra steel, just hanging around. You may not have noticed anything change when you cut it, but I guarantee you feel a difference when driving/cornering. I'd like to see measurements from the day you cut it compared to now, unless of course you added some sort of cross member back since then.

It's not just the exhaust that your hearing. A bump in compression gives the truck all bark
Im trying to grasp the concept to get this sound lol. so the trick is to keep the xpipe as close as possible to the headers maintaining the same length of pipe coming in and out but the routing does not matter muffler back ? Im running a LQ9 .30 tsp chop monster ,prc 225 heads, fast nw102 headers 4l80e and looking for new exhaust for this as we speak.
I would say the routing after the mufflers isn’t as critical for needing to be equal length. My setup is very close to equal length after the mufflers. But it does need to be equal length from the headers, to the x, and then after the x to the mufflers.
