Came to comment the same thing. Should have mixed in the Cullinan and maybe the Maserati with only one of the VAG cars.

To be honest, I have a soft spot for the late 90's Ford Explorer (seen at the beginning), mostly because I saw it a lot when I was younger and I had a small toy of said car.
It’s and early Ford Explorer not a late 90s. That body style was made until 1994.
Huh, well I've always liked that shell a lot better than the much flatter models of recent year.
There were a few railroad tracks bbn I used to jump in my 97' Explorer. Those things are great, not to be underestimated

I think the explorer won this he’ll it was 1,000$ and they jumped it twice! I didn’t see one of the $$ suv leave the ground. I say though the suburban the original suv wins it’s been around since 1936....
They couldn't jump the new cars they'd have to pay for the damage
Top gear US is beating a dead horse, just call it anything but Top Gear. We hold you to a standard you just can't meet.
The previous US Top Gear was great. This one is just not entertaining.

I miss the old Top Gear USA.... I am a huge fan of TG UK and yes I also liked TG USA and liked it a lot. I wish show runners just gave them more freedom, own path to follow and not force them to “copy” many things from TG UK. I will give this version a shot, but so far.. me no like.
Lacks cohesion and charisma
This bit have successfully show that majority of modern SUV doesn't really do "utility" all that well. A little bit roomier than a wagon, but not much benefit other than that.
In fairness though with road tyres and soft snow nothing is going around that track not even a land rover
Call me unpopular but I actually enjoy this show
I like it to bud, better than the current top gear uk with they're stupid challenges which don't even test the vehicles properly.

2/3 VW get stuck in snow
Dear MotorTrend, thank you so much for making this, it may not be as good as UK one with epic trio, but it is still absolutely enjoyable show. But if i may let me please sugest you a thing or two. Please in the name of god, drop Rob from the show, he cant drive , he cant act, he feels fake and out of place. He literally is "where is my skip button" guy. Dax on the other hand is amazing, follows the script too strong sometimes, but he feels natural and he really can drive, its CAR SHOW. Petrolheads show, Jethro is well placed as quick driver guy with knowledge, Dax is maniac with love of power and muscle, Rob is just granddad, who undergrab steering wheel while doing timed lap... fake smiles all the time, says his lines so fake im cringing. Replace him please.
They are all pretty much the same vehicle what's the point. VW is great and all but I'd like to see how they hold up against a jeep, Alfa, range rover, Mercedes etc.

@Lassi Kinnunen 81 all seasons come on Jeep unlike those other ones on show. LSD rear and brake slip infront more clearance than others and BEST transfer case For 4 x4 Jeeps being building these things since 1941. I’m not there so no o e knows for sure but my moneys on trackhawk all day long
* Crossovers
No these are SUVs. Crossovers are essentially hatchbacks that have been lifted. They usually share the same basic platform. In this case, however, these three all share the same VAG (Volkswagen auto group) platform but are shared on an actual SUV platform. No doubt they are unibody SUVs rather than body on frame, but because of their size, mass, people carrying ability, luggage capacity, the type of 4WD system they use (a legit system, which can be 50/50, and torque vector, and superior to the FWD based Haldex systems), their towing ability (although I don't think the Lamborghini can tow), and the fact that they definitely have the ability to do utility stuff (with the right tires!) with a strong emphasis on being Sport-ing (more like high performance).

Very disappointing to see MotorTrend trying to profit from a show name that should have died when the three guys who made it great were lost. I won't watch these just as I wouldn't watch a Roadkill show without David and Mike. I'm a MT+ subscriber, by the way.

This isn’t top gear... just change the name, stop trying to keep the brand name without the actual guys who MADE the brand what it is. I bet if you ever patched things up with Jeremy and got the crew back together you’d make TRUCK LOADS of money because you’d instantly get your fan base back.

Well the budget for the grand tour is far far higher than the bbc can afford and the hosts get more money, bbc couldn't compete

What I do is watch both the grand tour and top gear, I find my brain has the capacity to watch more than one car show
