  • USC closed out 2018 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship with the men's 4x400m relay team of Zach Shinnick, Rai Benjamin, Ricky Morgan Jr. and Michael Norman shattering the school and facility record and setting the NCAA indoor record and IAAF ratified world record with a time of 3:01.98. Their time was also just .02 seconds shy of the USA indoor record of 3:01.96 set in 2006, which was not a ratified time and not recognized by the IAAF. The amazing thing is that the second-place team Florida (3:02.23) also broke the previous collegiate record and third-place Texas A&M was less than a second behind.

    I just don't get it. Holloway can run a 12.81 110mH, can jump an 8.17 long jump, a 20.66 200, a 2.16 high jump, a 6.50 60m, a 43.75 400m split outdoors and a 44.91 400m split indoors, as well as a 32.80 300m run as a teenager. Dude could be a hell of a decathlete if he wants to.

I thought the same thing. Perhaps he tried pole vaulting once and said "nope".

@@jlaux7 He seems pretty strong, muscular and lean. Plus he's fast. I think he could perhaps be a 5.00m vaulter tbh.

Rai Benjamin was born in the Bronx, NY to parents from Antigua. He represented that island for a short time as a youth. He filed all necessary paperwork stating that he would no longer be representing Antigua before he entered college. The world indoor world record belongs to USC.

Problem is it takes three years for your nationality to switch.

    • @kennethcoleman1378

@@KnightsSportsLeader He technically wasn't switching nationality though as he is American born and a US citizen. The issue was he had to file a transfer of allegiance because he had previously competed for Antigua at a Youth Championship meet. He was supposed to be granted an exception in the three year rule since he was American born and was living in the US for well over three years BUT they froze the entire application processes in 2017. This race happened in March 2018 they didn't unfreeze the approval of applications until October 2018 which is annoying because even then it was still a full three years (which wouldn't have mattered regardless) well before the indoor meet occurred. They should have been given this world record on merits alone because it is none of the runners fault that the IAAF decided to freeze applications due to the corrupt cheating of the East Africans.

@@kennethcoleman1378 I'm aware he was American-born and a US citizen, but in the eyes of IAAF, he was Antiguan when he was a part of that relay.

@@KnightsSportsLeader What I'm saying is that by the time of this record he had already done everything to be cleared in his US Allegiance, they just froze the application process.

Once Holloway breaks the 110mh world record (if he does, really) he should become a decathlete. Look at his personal bests, and you'll see why.
