I read a joke in Khushwant Singh's joke book :
During Military rule in pakistan , Three people were brought before a Judge for beating up a military officer .
Judge asks : why did you beat up this officer ?
First man : Sir , he was trying to harass my daughter .
As a pakistani father , it is my duty to protect the honour of my daughter
Judge: OK , you get bail . Next person , why did you beat up the officer ?
Second man : Sir , the woman he was harassing is my sister . As a pakistani brother , it is my duty to protect my sister .
Judge: ok , you also get bail . Next person , why did you beat up the officer ? Is that lady also your relative ?
Third man : oh no Sir , I was just passing by when I saw these guys beating up a Military officer . So I thought maybe Military rule is over , so I decided to join in

    Dear Shahjad Sheikh ji,
Majority Muslim public in our subcontinent became a victim of The British Rulers' interests of post independence period coupled with ego & selfish interests of pseudo muslim Late Baba Jinnah. There was no sympathy to the idea floated for separate nation for muslims & Two Nations Theory till elections of 1937. Even during 1940 there was no demand for Pakistan in the resolution passed by muslim league at annual conference at Lahore, only reference for more autonomy for muslim majority states of North & North Western states was made. After that at the behest of Governor General Linlithgo backed by former PM of UK Late Winston Churchill, muslim league led by Jinnah floated the Two Nations Theory & separate nation for muslims. No doubt The Britishers wanted to weaken the freedom movement of The Congress Party, because being quite engaged in second world war, utterly in need of British India army & brave fighting soldiers from India, also under huge disturbed economic conditions. The Congress Leadership too failed to anticipate the dirty process of conspiracies for which The British Rulers were quite expert. Though Gandhiji had twenty one meetings with late Jinnah after release from jail at Jinnah's residence Malabar Hills Bombay, but Jinnah being backed & assured by The Britishers refused to budge & amend his Two Nations Theory.
After partition & assassination of PM Late Liaquat Ali Khan, all leaders of muslim league lacked patriotism, spirit of sacrifice, bankrupt with vision for progress, economic development of Pakistan, her public indulged in leg pullings of each other for selfish interests which gave a pretext to military leadership to step in & enforce dictatorship which ignorant public of Pakistan too welcomed by distributing sweats in cities. Cunning persons like Zulfikar Ali Bhutto became advisers, close confidents of the dictator. Even journalists of whole mainstream media of Pakistan too became psycophants. As per custom evolved, mullah mafia too became psycophant of dictators. Please take care of yourself as ruling elite of Pakistan may not like your words & podcasts. Thanks.

Totally agree to you on lip service in case to Islamising Pakistan because it was usually done by people who had no knowledge on Islam or no knowledge on the relevant subject they wanted to Islamise i.e here the banking system. Few yrs ago i did the gender training program along with a Malaysian gender expert who was well read on Quran. It was amazing and i took that tip from and read Quran, hadith and variety of literature on Islamic history before my gender training and my communication improved.
Like Islam we as a nation have not understood our constitution not even our basic fundamental rights.

The military establishment in Pakistan has maintained a dominant role in the country's politics for several decades, often intervening in civilian governance and even directly ruling the country through military coups.
There are a few key reasons for this:
Perception of civilian weakness: The military sees civilian institutions and political leaders as lacking the ability to effectively govern and manage the country's affairs. This has led the military to view itself as the sole savior of the nation, justifying its interventions in politics.
Lack of civilian control over the military: Civilian leaders have been unable to fully institutionalize democratic control over the armed forces, allowing the military to maintain autonomy and influence over key policy decisions.
Military's economic and political interests: The military has built up extensive business interests and a powerful role in the economy, giving it a vested interest in maintaining its influence. It has also forged direct foreign policy ties, further entrenching its political power.
Constitutional ambiguity: The constitution of Pakistan has been repeatedly amended, with provisions that allow the military to intervene in politics under the "doctrine of necessity." This has provided legal justification for military coups and rule.
However, the current army chief, Gen. Asim Munir, has stated that the military is "well aware" of its constitutional limits and expects others to "uphold the constitution."
This suggests an acknowledgement that the military's political dominance may face challenges, especially if civilian institutions can assert their constitutional authority.
The strength of Pakistan's democratic institutions will be crucial in determining the future civil-military relationship.

There is a fundamental flaw in Pakistan and it is very much creeping into other countries as well. A nation should be based on Dharma (not religiosity) where each individual stakeholder is committed to uphold the spirit of the whole nation (and by extension constitution) and be ready to sacrifice individual interest for larger interest. When the reverse happens, i.e. individual interest overtakes nation's interest, deterioration starts to happen. In case of Pakistan, it happened from day1 where people who had the responsibility to build the nation became self-centered. Second issue was, Pakistan was formed on the basis of Islam and each/most muslims have faith in Allah, but ALL those folks who has been blessed with power by Allah do not respect Him as they are misusing that power for self-interest and not for serving Allah's people (the general mass). As long as this understanding does not come, nations will suffer. All the virtues that religion/spirituality talks about should be practiced by people in power. Till that happens, not much change gonna happen no matter who has power.
Shehzad, if you have read this much and it makes any sense, I recommend you read some Hindu scriptures that has practical lessons for life on earth.

I don't agree with this sentiment. Constitution isn't the supreme authority to determine morality.
Slavery was once constitutional in the US and so was everything that the Nazis did.
The constitution is nothing but a formalization of the state and for any revolution or a people's movement ,the state will try to use constitution to suppress any uprising.
After the communists took over, they introduced a new constitution because China was now a new state.
    Same with Pakistan.
The constitution of the Islanic republic of Pakistan can NEVER be a source of justice or moralirty because it serves a state created on the basis of a hateful religious theory(two nation theory). Much like how you can never expect the Israeli constitution to ever deliver justice to the Arabs.

It took years to create a constitution, but who is truly responsible for the delay? Is it the dictators, politicians, feudal elites, or even Quaid-e-Azam himself, who had no concrete plans for the country he helped create? Despite having ample time after independence, instead of dispersing power, Quaid-e-Azam appointed himself as Governor-General. Subsequently, a few cults followed his footsteps in centralizing power. If we compare this with the current situation, we see Imran Khan portraying himself as another Jinnah. Khan is also trying to centralize power, with no clear plans for our future other than consolidating his own authority.

A Pakistani talking about why the constitution matters, seems like a joke, but very refreshing nonetheless 😊... In a sea of madness, there are still untainted fish swimming...hope always lives next door, as long as you know where next door is 😉... More power to you and other minds in Pakistan fighting a losing battle ... You're fighting a losing battle, but at least you're fighting to stay alive in the war 🙏🇮🇳

Israel and the UK Do not have a written constitution..
    If Ayub allegedly violated
Constitution, what about the progress this country made during his time ? Did the people not have respectable lives, than the democracy of Bhutto ??
Your podcast is simply distortion of facts as well as the terms of reference to discuss politics of Pakistan
What the democracy has contributed to the common ??
18th amendment is pro separation , simply put.
