Great video, very helpful, I'm still working out a few bugs implementing the A8 into my multi rotor, I mostly fly fpv freestyle quadcopters for recreation, and have a DJI Mavic 1 and Mavic 2 Enterprise Thermal for my side business and search n rescue team I volunteer with. I recently got a good deal on a DJI F550 hextacopter, that I want to make into a lighting rig for search n rescue ops. It's my first multirotor with more than 4 props, so it's been a learning experience, the A8 was a perfect price and fit, because it's purpose will be lighting more than photography, but with everything on the F550 being in the DJI ecosystem it was a little bit of a challenge getting the A8 to work, and I'm still ironing out a few things.
What I did is use the DIY cable for the ethernet connecter that's next to the HDMI out, and just used the AV out pin to an analog 800mW fpv transmitter (there's actually a DJI OSD module between the A8 and video tx, for my telemetry), and powered the video tx from a 5v pad on the drone. I'm using an older Radiolink AT9 radio with a R9DS rx for my control link, but only had 3 aux channels that were already being used for gear/arming and two for gain control. But then I discovered that the older Radiolink radios connect to multiple receivers at the same time quite easily, and the actual radio still had 4 aux/servo channels available, when I was flying the F550. So I just got another R9DS rx, connected it to the A8 via the included S-Bus Y cable, and mapped pitch axis, zoom, single photo, and start/stop recording to the free channels/servos on the radio, and I was in business.
I'm having issues with the photo and recording, not always working, but I'm getting close to figuring it out. They must have fixed the pitch control you were talking about, because I have it on a slider, and depending on how I set my end points and sub-trim on the radio, I can set how fast and far the camera travels in each direction, and I set the midpoint on a switch to be able to center it quickly. Anyway sorry for the long comment, just thought I'd throw it out there in case anyone else was struggling with non SIYI, Mavlink or Adrupilot hardware, thanks again for the video, it gave me some good insight on a couple decisions I need to make, take care, happy flying!!
Hey man! I am also in FPV and trying some stuff out with a bigger hexacopter, and I was looking for a decent camera to start with before saving up to get something like a gremsy. But for this camera it is pretty hard to find good reviews. Would you like to tell about your experience with this camera up until now? Cheers!
Looks like a pretty good product Marc. In the spirit of this product I would love if GoPro made a Thumb size camera.
It worth of adding optical zoom into the set. Would be perfect. I'm sorry asking about tracking features.

I assume your just using analog video output via CVBS signal? I was a bit confused reading there manual as refers to "air unit", which I initial though meant DJI FPV "air unit" compatible. This does not appear to be the case. Would be nice to see such a gimbal like this with either Walksnail/Avatar, or DJI VTx support, or a VTx that took HDMI video input.
I have been struggling to get the A8 mini to work. Apart from the flight controller, flashed with Arduplane, do I need any other hardware? Thanks for your answer.
I have buy 30 cameras a lot of problem, roll stabilization reset the camera every turn, i send you mail wich firmware resolve the problem?? i try last 2024 3.4.7
should we buy this gimbal if we have to use on a multi-rotor with ardupilot with without GPS
Might be interesting with the rumored walksnail VTX that supposedly can take an hdmi camera in.
That's what I'm also waiting for. It's actually officially announced not just rumored.

@@joe60000 they just posted a teaser image on Facebook with a sketched shape and some details about the different inputs. Since then it was silent. That was mid July. I am also waiting for a date and try to get info through my contacts.
@@MarcFPV fingers crossed this brings about the ability to used a switch powered HDMI splitter.
you really got one . I was looking for that for years cause I had seen it in 2019 or so but they had said back then it should be a copter platform with no wing support.
That's why they got in contact with me as they have interest in bringing it to fixed wings. So they wanted feedback.
@@MarcFPV you mentioned the gimbal control issues but I had thought you are flying dji fpv goggles which should be capable of headtracking cause my first dji racing goggles back in 2018 supported already head tracking and analy fpv plus hdmi input .
Like the review even though 1 axis has its own limits I had forgotten over time.
May I know, how do you control the gimbal of camera?
I spent some time mounting this on my quad as I thought it would be a better solution than the separate 2 axis gimble and camera I had before.
The gimbal works well controlling it from my TX via Ardupilot but the camera is poor to say the least.
At 4K there is lots of compression and is not as good as the Runcam Orange 4K I used before and no where near as good as the DJI pocket I mount on another drone.
Very disappointing It really is not worth the price

Thanks not gonna buy it yet. They need to get rid of that drift. Really like a gimbal based 4k cam or 2.7k with zoom and p&t options.

yes, to INAV via SBUS out.
@@MarcFPV can you do a video showing how you connected it up or a diagram so I can see exactly how it was done.
how are you transmitting the video feed? how do u connect to FC? Are u using a matek?

The gimbal has a normal analog Video output with a CVBS Signal like our FPV cams. it will not work with WS goggles yet. I also have no info about the new WS VTX with HDMI that would also work with this gimbal in HD. Waiting for that too!
