    I have a question about this,-
    Did you get more than just the 0420 code??
    I’m asking because I just got the 0420 code and also codes for my o2’ sensors that are behind each cats.

      Hello, no it was just a 420, I did change out my o2 sensors for both sides just for this code to come back after clearing it. For you I'd say change the o2 sensors if you haven't by now ride around for 400 miles to see if the code comes back by itself

    Was you having any problem with performance or spit sound out the exhaust? My 2000 yukon is doing the but no black smoke or rotten egg smell and there plenty of exhaust coming out and it seems I'm going threw a lot of gas

      Yes, I was losing gas quickly and the car revved higher than usual when driving or warming up, it wouldn't drop below 1000 rpm. No smoke, no rotten smell, but the fumes were much stronger than usual

      On this vintage, running rich, the first thing I go check is the little fuel pressure regulator on the injector fuel rail and it’s teeny tiny vacuum line- which is often split at the rubber elbows. The vacuum leaks at the regulator Results in excess high fuel pressure, that causes rich running and overloaded cats. Check it!

    I know this from a while but,i have to ask, did your mpg change before and after the cat change?

    • @altonbrown2955
      @altonbrown2955  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi, yes it did get better after as well as the driving itself. Before the gas dissapeared quicker and the drive train was rough or struggling

      @@altonbrown2955 thank you for the response, went ahead and changed my cat and the mpg went back to normal (300miles x tank)

    You’re giving out misleading information. Just because you have a p0420 code doesn’t mean go out and buy a cat first. Always replace the cheapest part first.

      I have gone that route before and in the end I still lost my catalytic converter, both sides, I've done the part by part replacing and i did so in avoiding what was bound to happen anyway, so this is a video that is more so a heads up to take it in and get your cats tested save the time and work and replace the cats and not prolong the issue

      @@altonbrown2955 I hear you. But if your cats are already gone don’t you think you should go ahead and replace the O2 sensors too since more likely than not they’re defective or will fail soon after replacing the cats.

      @C.Montero I did beforehand, all 4 O2 sensors, that's how I figured it was the cats, once it got changed the code went off immediately during the drive, no reset needed
