I agree. I just want to mention this before I say what I am about to say, I am not comparing Wilson to Haaland. Foden and Haaland have such a good partnership together at Man City. Wilson while not being as good as Haaland is, he does share some similarities in the fact that he is quite quick and strong for a striker. It could work, Foden would be feeding Wilson balls on a plate, because he is that good.

Using the England squad like a defensive block when most are attack-oriented players and not putting any pressure on America. Harsh to single out Trippier. Watch Trippier for Newcastle. The majority of his passes go forward, many of them defence-splitting. Why? Because he has Miguel Almiron ahead of him, and who runs at full-pelt for fun, and is always available for the pass. With England, there's no movement ahead of Trippier so he passes sideways and back. It's boring, and it ends up with the back four playing keep-ball.
The midfield was absent, and Kane is sooooo obviously off the pace. Trouble is is that he's an icon and the main man when it comes to FA branding. Like Shearer playing at Newcastle three years longer than he should have, Harry's peaked.

Like most of the squad, he plays for a club that centres on possession based total football philosophy. Southgateball is more defensive minded in nature, more negative and less creative. A player like foden can't shine in a team that lacks the technicality, confidence and most importantly chemistry to deliver a proper ball to him. Doesn't help that he's very small either, so not much of a target man

They are poor at the back, come on. They are a high pressing team, but the defensive line is vulnerable, and I see Iran getting goals against them. If Harry Kane was trying to get a goal and not constantly marking Adams, we would have got something. And that is how Southgate sets us up. That is why we will not win anything. Southgate and Gregg Berhalter are kind of similar in terms of favoritism and tactical inflexibility, but Gregg going 4-4-2 with McKennie on the wing (where he has played quite a bit for Juve) was really smart. Still hope we move on from him after the World Cup, but he out-coached Southgate today.

    • @ecaeas4439

Southgate was playing for a draw. It was obvious the entire game. England players passing it lazily betweenthe back line, not contesting for set pieces (aside from Harry maguire...), playing sloppy passes in midfield and inviting pressure on themselves whilst laying off the US when they were in possession. These players know how to play possession-based, progressive football. Gareth Southgate doesn't know how to play that type of football, so he goes with whatever is "safe".
