  • After 4400kms of "severe" riding in deep snow and quite possibly not using low range enough, it's time to change the drive belt.
I got a good deal on the Gates Gforce belt, right around $100, as compared to the $300+ for the OEM Suzuki one.
It's fairly simple to change the belt on these machines if you are mechanically inclined and have tools and an air compressor and impact gun. The whole procedure took right around 2 hrs.

does a worn out belt cause slippage at speed? ive had some issues where all of a sudden the quad revs up but no power is getting to the wheels and i can hear something banging around in the clutch box then it reengages after i let off the throttle. hard to repeat and doesnt happen everytime i ride either.

Yes, absolutely. And polished up clutch sheaves that are glazed will cause the belt to slip at higher rpms, add the two together and you will have issues. Every belt has a minimum operating width as well, if the belt is worn down on the sides and is out of the service range, it will cause slippage. Take the cover off and check, but it's always good practice to replace belts before issues show up.

I have a question. I noticed you used those two bolts to loosen up the belt to remove it. do you leave those in while you install the new belt and then loosen them back up and take them out? Please help I'm getting ready to replace my belt.

How did you find the Gates belt worked? Any issues with it?

after using the bolts to separate the clutch (2) is there enough slack to pull belt off or does primary come off? I dont have an impact if thats the case

I bought my first impact wrench (air) and socket to remove the primary! Do you know that the belt has a DIRECTION of travel? The angles on each side are different! I have not seen any Suzuki forum or comment mention that at all. Oh and thank you I did degrease and clean the primary and the metal does look much different than when I removed it.

Is this Yamahas Ultramatic style cvt?

    • @danieljohnson3492

So their the same? Or Yamaha just know how to do it better and have better success and that’s why they blab about it so much? I’m actually about to sell my cousin on an auto vs a geared wheeler. I’d NEVER go back to geared..I’m SPOILED on autos. Especially Yamahas.

I bet gates makes the Suzuki belt just as Honda belts.

Hondas are geared! No Honda ATV has a CVT belt.
