Good review overall. But about the side pockets. Take the retention strap and loop it through your bottle. Especially a Nalgene bottle. Any water in the pack is used to fill your flask. I always secure anything not zipped away.

    Thanks for detailed review.
After comparing various features, I chose the Deuter Futura 26L because of front opening feature and sturdy hipbelt/hippocket feature in spite of 1.4kg weight.

I have this pack and its a very well made pack. If you have it in hamd you will be impressed. I scored mine used and use it for my work gear and gym pack. Even tho the hip belt is not detacheable, it doesnt make it uncomfortable to wear for someone like myself that never uses it. My shoulders are on the narrow side and usually need a sternum strap so the pack doesnt fall off. This pack doesnt shift or fall of my shoulders. Also imo open i think the "30" L rating is modest. You can pack alot more.

Good review. I have used Arcteryx gear for a very long time. Over the last five years or so, the design of the clothing and gear seems to have shifted to urban/fashion instead of backcountry. For the price of their stuff, there should be no flaws.

I agree. Are there any good packs which dont compromise anymore?

Nothing is perfect. Several of the issues I have with this pack are design choices and therefore subject to opinion. I appreciate that they were trying to address an issue of accessibility to the side pockets instead of just slapping a boring old stretch pocket on like most other companies. A for effort, C for testing and optimization!

@@KaneDoesOutdoors still feels a tad bit shameful that a company with dead birds reputation manages to fail on say, waterproofing BOTH zippers that are next to one another(?!?!). and that elastic waist strap is a nono

I tighten those elastic straps 100X per day 🤣. It’s the lost bottle that really got me though.

I’ve got the larger version and ended up cutting off the hip belt…. You can tie a knot in the chest sternum straps but be sure to make it loose enough for layering up.

Already put knots on the sternum straps - hip belt is next to go. Still not sure about the side pockets

I agree with the other comment… the company is about fashion now..

Sir, you need to buy a backpack from a backpack company, not from a Chinese owned and Chinese made fashion company.

The design team is supposed to be in Vancouver BC. The materials and build quality are very high. There are three main issues that I have with the design (side pockets, zipper, chest straps) and 2 minor issues that are more of a use-philosophy standpoint (non-removable hip belt, no large external stretch pocket). This pack was 200$ CAD, which was 50$ less than my UD Fastpack 40. The attention to detail/quality on the Aerios is much better - the UD is already falling apart.
I wish we could have all North American made products, but unfortunately I wouldn't be able to afford them. The smaller companies that do make "innovative" packs (eg Durston, Outdoor Vitals) most likely manufacture oversees as well to keep costs reasonable.
