    Soccer is the main sport that bridges all cultural divides. Every single country on earth plays soccer. No matter what color or nationality you are, that round ball and 90mins of passion on the pitch brings EVERYBODY together. And that's why it'll always be the #1 sport in the world.

      G D nah baseball because right now, by popularity and ratings, it’s american football first, basketball second, baseball third. I think football has already passed hockey in most parts of the US. Baseball is next because the younger people are watching baseball less and less.

      McNugget Fan The big six in the prem are probably overrated but most people that I've spoke to think that the rest of the prem teams are worse than the 'smaller' teams in other big leagues so I don't know where you got that from :/
      I think the main reason the prem gets more coverage than the other big leagues is because English is a more globally dominant language than German, French, Italian etc. so it's easier for people to follow.

      You make a great point. For so long, the outreach U.S. Soccer and MLS did was targeting suburban Whites and latinos. There is nothing wrong with that for sure, but they basically ignored everyone else. The smartest thing the Atlanta United ownership was entirely flip that script. Before a single match was played they focused on the urban parts of the region first. They went to the pubs and hosted watch parties, they when in to the working class Black and Latino neighborhoods and did viral marketing through murals and block parties, they went to the Asian neighborhoods (something that other MLS teams seem to ignore totally) and did the same marketing. Basically they went to every neighobrhood in the city and told folks "We want you there AND we want you visible." That has gone a long way to ensuring a passionate fan base that would take a normal club decades to build. Plus it doesn't hurt our team is legitimately good.

      word of the day: aye just this year at my high school more black men like myself tried out for the soccer team. And most of them are American Football players. So it's really getting popular over here in Georgia. I've been a fan since I was 7 and have played since I was 7. Greatest choice I ever made from what sport I wanted to play in rec. My other choice was basketball which I did later on played but I'm so happy I chose soccer over it at the time. (From ATL)

      Facts💯. I'm a young African American male and I play soccer for my high school. I go to a predominantly black and Hispanic school. Sometimes I get stereotyped because I'm African American and people say shouldn't you be playing American football or basketball. I get so mad when people say that black people don't play soccer when they don't watch the sport.

      If you look at England they completely dominate soccer at youth level in Europe and the World because they are blackest European nation and the US could do the same if they get rid of the play to pay system that excludes them out of professional game. if the US want to be a top soccer nation they need more African Americans in their teams because you are starting to see the nations with black populations are dominating youth soccer and that predicts the future of soccer.

      The phrase that I use to describe Atlanta United FC is "the club of my dreams". I've been dying for an MLS club to call my own ever since I started watching and following the league in 2010. I've seen the growth, I've seen the excitement, but I wanted to experience it myself, to point to a crest, a team, and say "that is my club." If Atlanta United had been a typical MLS club with a typical MLS fanbase, I would still have been overjoyed. But to see how much the club did to become truly a part of the Atlanta community and to see that community then return the favor and buy into the club so utterly and so passionately is beyond description.
      Quiero Contar Contigo.

    Soccer has to go urban, inner city, hip hop, if the US is ever to produce a soccer superstar. I much prefer rock'n roll soccer and samba soccer, but If soccer goes hip hop, even the white suburban kids bred on American football will start to think that soccer is cool. Pele is black. The original Black Panther, Eusebio, was black. Both these guys were carried around on the shoulders of white men and called King, "O Rei", in countries that were heavily racist and involved with the slave trade for centuries - Pele in Brazil and Eusebio in Portugal. You can find those iconic videos on TH-cam. Pele and Eusebio were the Cristiano and Messi of their era. Two of the greatest athletes of the 20th century. Black kids in the US would do well to learn about Pele and Eusebio, and I believe both ended their careers playing soccer in the United States. Now that's positive black history.

    • @TagusMan
      @TagusMan 6 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      jangance: Technically, Eusebio is African. He was born in Mozambique. But I mentioned Eusebio and Pele specifically because they were black players from majority white countries. They both transcended football and became international superstars, back when racism was far more obvious than now. In 1965, Eusebio became the first black player to win the Ballon d'Or. And Pele was already the most famous person on the planet. It's important history that no one ever talks about.

    America is really starting to embrace the beautiful game. This kind of excitement and passion is unmatched in any other sport. I’m 100% down for more black folks killing it in soccer in the US. I hope it outshines basketball and football one day. Unlikely, but with younger generations taking on a more global citizen outlook, I could see them loving an international sport like this.

    • @StylistecS
      @StylistecS 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Trevor Estrada it’s more popular with people under the age of 40 than its ever been. The sport that’s going to first take a hit is baseball. The older folks don’t want to admit it but it’s declining in viewership for younger people. Soccer is on the heels of Basketball too at people under 40.
      Here’s the next step. The USSF needs to get rid of the pay to play and they need to start getting into the inner cities. If they keep ignoring this, well the sport will never grow to where you and I would like it to grow.

      NYCFC playing on a baseball field and harming the MLS by having the worst dimensions of a pitch in the whole league.
      They need a downtown soccer stadium fit for purpose - and then there's no reason at all, in a city as diverse as that, that they can't "do an Atlanta".
      Or maybe the Red Bulls could beat them to it ... they're stuck in New Jersey, not exactly packing them in.

    Atlanta is proof that football in the US isn't "manufactured" and "fake" how everyone around world claims it to be. Genuine love the beautiful sport is growing more and more everyday! Im so tired of seeing all these Europeans hating and bashing on the US when it comes to anything football. They say its all about money here and yes some of it is, but yet in all the European top leagues the only way to win is by spending A LOT of money, ridiculous amounts really. Just be happy and excited for us in the USA as we are that this sport that was once hated and looked down upon is growing more and more everyday!

      MrButtScratcher1 Reapectfully, you are wrong. Google “the diverse square mile in America” and you’ll learn about this section of Atlanta with basically every nation in the world represented. Or the part of town I live in English is a second language. And lastly, about 2 million of Metro Atlanta’s population is foreign born or the children of immigrants.
      What may make seem not very international is due to how big and affluent the City’s African-American culture is. No other place in the world is like this town in that regard, so it gets a lot of press.

    Some of the reasons I'm so excited about African-Americans getting into soccer are the similarities between black and Brazilian culture - there is an inate sense of rhythm, passion, and showmanship, which has traditionally been a part of what makes Brazilian soccer so beautiful to watch.
    As soon as African-Americans start to switch from American football to soccer, they're going to see the opportunity for their culture to shine through the sport, similar to how it has in basketball. There could very well be several Neymars in the community.
    Imagine if Allen Iverson (for example) had played soccer instead of basketball.

    • @thebee9853
      @thebee9853 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Ryan Austin Dean Brazilian culture is a black/African(Yoruba, Angola, Gabon, Anjico, etc.) culture(with the obvious European influence here and there.)
      There wasn't always so many mestizos and whites/europeans there, the country used to be mostly black/african.
      Even with all the race mixing and European immigration that happened there in the last 100 years, they still have the largest black/african population outside of Africa at around 50 million.

    I always thought there was an American conspiracy to keep African Americans away from soccer. It is like a fear that if African Americans start to like and discover soccer it is game over for the NFL and NBA. Soccer players get million dollar contracts at 12 and don't have to go to college to play for free like Americans sports. Soccer is a more black sport than the NFL or NBA. There were professional black soccer players in the 1880s playing with white players. Black people were not allowed to play in the NBA and the NFL until the 1950s. One of the reason the NFL is not popular with Black people outside of America because it is seen as a sport with a plantation mentality that reinforces race and slave hierarchies. NFL teams are full of black guys killing themselves so a highly paid white guy can tell them want to do and old rich guy who doesn't care about them makes money off them, that doesn't sound like a Black sport to me. and colin kaepernick exclusion only proves there is a Plantation mentality with NFL owners. That is why surprises the world that soccer has the reputation in the US of being a white man sport when it is the most urban sport everywhere else. In South Africa during apartheid where Black people were banned from playing sport soccer was the sport the black people played. Star soccer players get paid more money than NFL players because they take more of the revenue because they don't get exploited like NFL players. African Americans need to stop damaging their brains for white men who don't care about them in the NFL and play soccer.

      Delboy0 Yes! Soccer is for everybody around the world. All you need is a soccer ball and some cleats or sneakers. Many of the best black players play for England and France. Pogba, Sterling, Lukaku, Rashford, and others are great players who have black parents and come from former European Colonies in Africa and the Caribbean. From a Mixed-Race American Manchester United fan.

      There's no conspiracy against black player playing soccer. It's just that there is no defined route in becoming a professional. In NBA and NFL, there is a clear path. Get spotted during high school, go to college, enter draft. But for soccer it's completely different because only the United States have a draft. The rest of the world just sign players, which convolutes the process which leads to many players not pursuing a career in soccer. Also, for youth players it's pay to play which is ridiculous because when you look at the best players in the world, most of them came from poor communites.

    As an American, I find it pretty sad that we’re still referring to football, the sport’s TRUE NAME, as “soccer”
    Let’s face it, we’re a laughing stock in Europe and abroad, couldn’t even make the World Cup in literally the easiest qualifying group in the world
    If we want to be successful in the sport, we need to show respect to it’s real name

      While i'd rather it be called football the name they use is a very minor problem. The fact that they have a passionate fanbase and street culture around football is a massive breakthrough.

      MAN CITY FL: Although it makes all the sense in the world to call it football, because you literally play the ball with with your foot, the names "football" and "soccer" were invented at the same time for the same sport by the same English dudes. Calling it soccer doesn't make it wrong. It depends on what country you live in and on the historical reasons for calling it football or soccer. In Canada, we call it soccer because, like in the US, grid iron football became popular first. Association football, or soccer, didn't become a wide spread sport until much later. In Australia, they call it soccer because they have Aussie Rules Football. Call it football if you want. I do, but I have no problems calling it soccer as well. However, I do have a problem calling American football football. That's not football. Handball maybe. Throwball. Sit-on-your-ass-for-half-the-game-ball. Anything but football would make more sense.

      Don't tar all football fans with the same brush. Football in Europe has had a problem with racism for 60 years. That's because the place where a lot of people meet (matches ) is the ideal place for right wing nationalists to try and spread their evil ideas. In Britain the BNP and the League of Saint George often spread their propaganda at matches.

      21Sandoval What I gathered from the video was that he intended to say Atlanta is the best example of a US city that influences black culture nationally. In terms of African American culture, specifically, I'd say you can make a good argument for that.

      Jorgeflo7 I see your point but the thing is that our word and the word everyone around the world uses. Is being used by a sport that has nothing to do with the meaning of the word. And they also think they are the worldwide sport and diminish our sport to be less than. So why the fuck should we use another word. Fuck that Fútbol is way better than using a shitty secondary term “soccer”.
