I was offputted by the Graphics too. But eventually, after reading enough reviews, I gave the game a chance. I realized, it's not the graphics that are a problem (they are rather pretty), it's the organization of the information on the cards, and the text on the cards. The Action Text doesn't pop out, it seems a bit bland/generic. It takes getting used to (half a game, i'd say), then you're used to it. The Gameplay is really good!
Just got this game and I love the turn mechanic, and the no-shuffle mechanic. I'd agree that the graphics could be better and the unique powers could have been more unique. Still it's a solid deck building co-op game.
well the new kickstarter actually improved the design by making full art cards instead of black and white frames ... the art remains the same but is has its own charm

RazBaz07 Same. When I saw this on KS, the art/design caused me to skip it. Even with the "seal of excellence" the art is still off-putting enough for me to skip it. I want to emphasize, it's not bad. It just doesn't do anything for me.
Game looks great, I dunno I like the art. The graphic design seems ok, not the best but It's funny when you don't mind race for the galaxy's, which has the worst graphic design out there. Hah it's just goes to show you that if their is a great game under their you can put up with certain odd elements.
Why is the box so big?? Not like there's miniatures to fit, it's only cards and a few tokens. Honestly I would be more inclined if the box was reasonable. Shelf space is costly for a meh looking game, even if it is one hubby is really excited about.
I think one thing to keep in mind, and something that has made me struggle with liking the game, is sometimes it is just impossible to win. Not all the time, most of the time you can mitigate it with skill, but sometimes the order of the Nemesis deck and the order of the turn order deck means you just lost and couldn't do anything about it. GG. So if games where you sometimes just lose is a dealbreaker for you (and it almost is for me) i would suggest not getting it.
It's a funny old world. I'm happy with this art work but I find Sentinels art tragic. I couldn't buy it for that alone. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder...
I was thinking the same about graphic design before Tom even described it: it's boring and looks unbelievably old. Kind of a shame, because presentation is often nearly as important as mechanics and contents. People want to be told an interesting story first of all!

highly recommend checking The New Age edition :). If you dont like design or generic mages/Nemeses
Yes, the illustrations are great but the graphic design and typeface and alignment of graphic elements are beyond tragic.

funny thing is Tom loves Summoner Wars, which has a pretty plain/generic art style, especially compared to this game.
At least from seeing this video, the game almost looks like Sentinels crossed with Dominion. Might have to pick this up.
You are not wrong. The creators started with Dominion and modified it until they had a new game.
He has an issue with this artwork but not with terraforming mars. At least this is consistent.
Im trying to pick between this and Marvel Champions... and yeah the way this looks is a hard sell. Does the secon edition look better?

I thought so too, I actually like 1980s / 1990s art style, I even like the 2000s cartoony art style. It's not garish but it will do.

the cards are super thin(cheap) and the art is eh.
Update: I have my copy and had to double sleeve the paper thin cards.
I found somewhere in Europe that got it early and it has shipped !
Tom you nailed it on this one. I passed this game up because it looked generic. I really wanna play it now and it isn't available.

Kelly Croft Expansions pretty much, they need space in the box to store them. it's normal for a deck builder to have a massive box tbh
Pathfinders Rise of the Runelords sticks both out and up on my shelf. It's almost big enough to live in.

Check out the second edition, the graphic design is a lot better. You may also check the later big boxes.
