You only need two sceptres: one for the altar, one for teleporting.
The third sceptre was being recommended for the STASH, but it's not needed at all. You can store the outfit without the sceptre and you're going to be using the sceptre to teleport there in the first place.

I think I got my scpetre pre buff and I was there for like 3-4 hours every night for a couple of weeks. I just happened to loot the 6th sarcophagus as the timer was about to run out and I had no idea I had it until I see the log slot pop up

No you didn't get unlucky the zombies from Temple Trekking drop them in order so you never get dupes, starting with the top. If you don't pick up the drop, they still think it's the next one you're due and will keep dropping the top until you pick it up!

Maxed out herbs and use the rest on mahogany logs
you only "need" 2 scepters as an ironman because you can store the menaphite robes in the stash without storing the scepter in it.
