Great work man. Looks great. I love seeing how you interact with your employees. I’m so used to seeing the boss yelling and cursing at his employees. You speak to them calm and with respect and did a heck of a job. Keep up the good work. Love the video.
Thank you for the wonderful comments!! We try our best to always be that way, however, if i am in a
bad mood, its probably my cousins who hear it the most!!!Thank you for watching and the comment!!!
Gonna be honest I didn't expect such a good video from a dude in flip flops and capris but I'll be bookmarking this for my future lean to project because there's a lot of good info to take in and I'll need to watch it more than once.
Thank you for being open minded!!lol...i had my pants pulled up so i wouldnt get mud on them....but the flops there is no denying!!! Thank you for watching Zach
Don't drop your razor knife
You forgot the douchebag jawline beard
I’m pleased that there aren’t many comments/arguments about your method of setting the 6x6’s in dry concrete or using the bricks at the bottom of the hole. Here in East Texas there’s plenty of moisture in the soil year round (to set dry concrete) but always everyone argues about gravel or no gravel at the base of the post. I always have used about 6” of gravel or drainage rock and never have had a rot problem. The biggest issue you didn’t address was your reason for leaving the top of the concrete 6 inches below the surrounding soil. I would consider that to be the weakest link since it gives water a place to pool at the most critical spot.
Thank you for watching
Dude wears slides while managing his crew, filming for TH-cam, climbing ladders and cutting up post beams. Total boss!
thank you for the view and especially the comment!!!!
This is the kind of video I wish I could find all the time. When I thought "I wonder what it takes to build a lean-to onto my shop" and find a video of this quality. Perfect length, perfectly explained, great quality. No life story, no long dumb introduction, just the good stuff. Thanks!
Our main goal shooting the video was making sure that anyone could actually build their own lean-to off of the information given!!!Thank you for watching and for the comment. We have more DIY decks, roofs, and shed coming soon

Best video I've found on the topic and I looked at a lot. I used it to make my own. Excellent video production skills, carpentry skills and even human relations. Not everyone would learn enough Spanish to communicate with help. Thanks
Great instructional step by step with material list! It might be a good idea to fill the holes in the ground with a layer of large gravel rocks so the posts can shed any water that can accumulate in the posts over the years and cause rotten posts. I built huge deck when I was 22 and thanks to Bob Villa lol... showing this method, it still stands today and I'm 58. No rotten posts. This is the best video out there today sir. Thank you!
Wow, thank you very much sir! You have a great day!!!!
I have mad respect for a boss who is willing to get up and dirty with the boys and not some one that just barks orders.. great work on the build!
Thank you Chris for watching and commenting!!!
when i started this company i wanted to do things a little differently than how i was done by other bosses. that was to include pay, saying thank you for their time away from their families and vactaion pay(which is un heard of for construction workers where im from). i think we are accomplishing those things and thats why i have such good people working with me.
One of the hardest things to do we've dicovered is being a consistent part of all the crews day each day as we grow. Filming a complete video without interference is also super hard. I do love building and actually being with the guys lets them know that i know what they go through and lets us connect on a level much more personal than if you are making money or not! Hopefully we can continue to grow in experience and execution to bring quality videos on a regular schedule. Thanks again for watching
@@firstnforemost7283 well you nailed it! God bless you, and your family. If I still lived out there I would look you up. Definitely the kind of company I would want to have work done by,or work for. Cheers brother keep it up it will pay off for sure!
Great video. I really think that lean-to is built better than the prefabricated building it's being attacked to lol.
Thank you Dan, i do believe so as well. i get attacked a lot on here about how poorly i built it, people saying it won't last. Yet, its still there and since been closed in and looks wonderful still. In fa t ive been contacted by the same homeowner to build one on the other side as well!!!!
The quality of the production on this video is top notch. Also very informative and easy to digest information - thanks.
Thank you sir, for the great comment and for watching
Aussie lady cabinetmaker here. Sweet job and respect for teaching others valuable skills. Ytube algorithm was kind sending me down the rabbit hole in your direction. Wish more ppl took the time to teach good building practices.❤
wow!!!thank you for the kind words, they are greatly appreciated! And thank you for the comment as well! Have a great day!!!!!
Great crew, superior dog 😂
Very well built with the notched in beam!
Thank you very much sir!! Thank you for watching!!
Thank you for this valuable video. I was considering different options to free up much needed space in my shop and this looks to be the best option for my needs. I also appreciate that you lead and treat your team with respect. Its great that your team works "with" you rather than "for" you.
thank you so much!! i appreciate the kind comments, have a great day. if you build something please show us!!!
One of the best instructional videos I’ve ever seen. Appreciate ya!
Thank you very much for your kind words! We appreciate your feedback and wish you a wonderful day as well. If you have any further questions or need assistance in the future, feel free to reach out.

I got a build for ya.
Tri-level home’s basement side door (sub level) with concrete exterior staircase. I’m building a lean-to greenhouse to cover and enclose the staircase. I like to see your take on it. Good video.
my mom lives in a house with that exact scenario! and the drain is in the center at the bottom of the stairs. i think thats a great idea, you'll be rerouting the rain entirely and not even letting it get to that area.. As a matter of fact the house we built the lean-to on has that situation as well. except its not a tri-level home. i built a roof over that for him when i built his addition! I'll see if i can show it to you! thanks for watching and commenting as well!!!
Amazing video! Thank you
thank you very much and greatly appreciate the comment!!!
Great video , very easy to understand .Thanks again.
Thank you for your comment😊
Teaching and working, great combination, real life skills
Thank you for the great comment!!!!
I will echo the comments regarding the quality of both the information and the videography for being complete, easy to understand, with excellent shots of important tips elements of the build. Suscribed!
Thank you for watching, commenting, and subscribing. Have a great day.
It’s best to stack all sheets together on saw horses . Measure your screw hole marks and pre drill all sheets in one pass together . Your screw holes will always line up this way and be perfectly uniform once installed
Thanks 😁
you're welcome sir, thank you for watching
My father in law had a concrete business that all he could find to work was Mexicans… he taught them the trade, then they left and started competing against him on bids😂. It got to the point he just had to stop. He wasn’t mad at them because it’s hard work and he respected them. After he died they all came to his funerals, and anytime I need any work done they are quick to come and help.
If someone learns a trade, he or she will never be out of work.
Mexicans are one of the only labor willing ppl out there
Were they Mexicans or other Latinos because a Mexican men who work with their hands know these skills…have you seen Mexicos structures and ways of building with concrete that many white bosses in the USA began implementing into their jobs? I’ve never ever heard of Mexican workers learning the trade of concrete 😂😂😂😂 maybe the U.S. business practices but not the concrete skills
Great instructions and awesome respect for your crew!
Thank you Amanda!!!! Keep on the the lookout for our "Chapel" build uploading next week!!
Love the working slides though I was the only one have done so many projects in slides!
i got to have in the truck with me every day!!!
Great video this is exactly what I need really enjoyed the 4 footed helper lol

thanks for watching John! let me know if you have any questions thoughout your build I'd be glad to help!!!
Rockin the flippy floppy’s, safety first lol
Great video you’re gonna blow up
Very good video and a big thanks for all the details
Thank you for watching, i tried to make it a point to give enough details so anyone can actually complete their own lean-to. i hope you enjoyed the video and check out our deck and ceramic tile DIY's as well!!!
just me, but I would have trimmed a couple inches off the first piece of tin to make the lean-to roof line up with the main structure roof. all in all, very good video.
Fabulous video. One of the only structural based videos that I have been able to comprehend. You have a great way of educating. Thanks for that. I need this exact structure on the same side of my pole barn.
Wow!!!what an awesome comment. when i came up with the idea for this video,i researched other videos, and i felt there just wasnt enough explanation to actually complete a build like this. So for you to say that is super awesome!. Thank you for taking time out of your day to watch our video!!! I hope you have a great day.

Nice work on the video and quality looking work. What size was the lean to or did I miss that ? I know the video is 2yrs. old now but what would a job like that cost?

I’m thinking about doing this above my deck and was curious if it’s loud underneath the metal roof and if so what can I do to lessen the sound? Best video I’ve seen on a lean to. Great freakin job man.

thank you very much, and thank you for watching our video!!! the amount of views on this video is almost unbelievable, and has well surpassed our expectations!!! filming and the whole youtube channel is much more work than i had expected. i have a massive amount of help from our videographer, who is actually much more than that,
we are learning more amd more everyday!! planning and scheduling is really the hardest thing to accomplish, because the other crews and builders do not wait just because we are set! thank for your kind comments and i hope you check out our Chapel build series and many more that we have in editing phase right now!!!
have a great weekend
Cool. Looks pretty easy thank you.
You bet!
I like the video I do a lot of this work but was seeing if there was new or different ways of doing this for at home but man… put some shoes/boots on 😂 I almost couldn’t keep watching seeing those Sandals lol
Very well done video.Thanks.
thank you very much!!! have a great day!!!
Looks like there should be a slant on the roof for water drain purposes
This guy wanted a real flat roof because thats where he plans to hang deer for skinning and park his side-by-side. ideally you would need a pitch of atleast 15 degrees.
👍👍👍 Very informative thanks
Thank you Pete!! And thank you for the view and comment!!!!!be sure to check out our DIY deck and ceramic videos in the DIY playlists!!!
Good video, my favorite part is if you wanna see more DIY projects just like this one... As there are 5 other people doing the work... lol But good instruction.
lol...i get it..we only had 5 hours to shoot so i have to do what is necessary for time and the guys' hours but it was an ironic statement, depending on POV!!!! Thank you for watching and especially the comment!
This was a great video. Looking for something for my channel to keep Edna and tools. This video is perfect for what I was thinking of building!
Glad it was helpful!
How did you attach the ledger board. Im wanting to install a lean to on my building. The frame of my building is 2 ¹/² " square tubing. Im unsure on the best was to tie into it. My tin on the side wall is running horizontal like this one.
Great Job Thanks
Thank you for watching!
[again, thank you for you're helpful video]👍

Very high quality video. clear and concise
thank you very much, we owe it to our videographer for sure!!!! thank you for watching our video!!!
Good video!
Thank you sir! thanks for watching!!!
I’m building a roof of the shed like you are, but it’s for a chicken run. Now I planned on taking it from the shed and attaching it to the privacy fence instead of installing post like you did. Our shed is a big shed that anchored with large augers, the kind you might find single or double wide trailers. Now is that a bad idea, should I run a couple of post up against the fence to where the roof isn’t attached to the fence?
great question!! depending on the spacing between the posts of your fence, you may be able install a beam from post to post on your existing fence that could suffice just fine. these typs of roof designs with metal panels have a very low weight per sq. foot . thank you for the comment and for watching!!! have a great day.
That wood beam should be insulated with some old oil at least... It will be rooten...
WOW!! I love videos like this and have not seen one give so much explanation of details. Wonderful!!!
I am wanting to do something on a little smaller scale to the side of my house...one story, asbestos roofing.
My question is...should the pitch of the lean-to be equal to the pitch of the roof in order for water run-off from the roof to not wash backwards onto the wall of the house during a downpour if the lean-to roof pitch is too shallow?
That was pretty horrible stated and hope you can decipher what in the world I just asked.
Thanks so much. Jesus bless.
thank you for watching Miss Sandra!!!!
you do not have to make your new roof the same pitch as the house. You pitch should ideally be steeper than 12 degrees. A 4/12 pitch which is close to 19 degrees is required if using asphalt shingles. As far as the blowing rain, there is a way to cut Z flashing against the existing structure along with silicone that will protect you from blowing rain!!!
Good vid.
Thank you Doy, and thanks for watching as well!!!!
well built
thank you very much sir!!!
thank you for watching our video!!!
I'm trying to decide between doing a lean to like this or having a separate structure built. What was your cost on materials for this?
Great video! Definitely saving this one for my summer project.
Thank you watching our video!! And an extra thank you for the comment, it really helps youtube show the video more!
a few things i would have done different. I would have mixed sand and gravel into the concrete and poured it wet, its a lot stronger. Also with the roof, you never screw in the valley always on the hip. You can see how the techs have created an indent, this will eventually leak, also those sheets need the ends folded up under the other roof to stop the water from back traking.
Great anglo spanish guero(whiteboy). I'm a 4th generation Spanish Mexican from Texas(Tex Mex) better known. Make them speak English to you😂. Great video awesome instructions, hasta luego amigo.
Gracias, lol.
Great video!!
Great video! You explain it so well. How deep did you set the posts? Do you prefer dry concrete mix, then add water, or mix then pour?
I'm curious, how do you keep yellowjackets from building nests under the original eaves and the new roof? How long does it take for the concrete mix to be totally activated?
thanks Don!
1. we set the posts 24 inches deep.
2. i prefer mixed concrete if strength is my main priority, however dry packed is easier and all that was necessary for this job!!!
@heymaker
thanks for the comment and questions!!!
1. bees and wasps are definitely a battle, especially where a building is barely used.
but the best way is to completely close off the fascia. i actually did a newsletter on this exact problem that goes up on my community tab this friday the 9th of june
2. the concrete will be cured in approximately 24 hours
Beautiful shed! Awesome work.
Thank you very much!
Wouldn't it be better to put the post on concrete blocks instead burying them in the ground to prevent the wood from rotting?
Nice video btw.
yes it definitely would be better. i built this lean-to for a builder i work for and he couldnt decide on what type of floor he was going to lay i.e stamped concrete or pavers. so he told me to do it as i did!!!
ideally a metal bracket attached to concrete or anything keeping the post at least 1 in above the surface would be great!
@firstnforemost7283 that's good to know. It's the only critique I had on the build. As I understand it, that space where the air meets the wet soil is where wood rots.
Thanks!
Wow Thank you sir! Thank you for watching!!!!
Now all you need to do is to close it in on one end and the long side.
thats right baddoggie!!!!
Wait is nobody going to mention his sliders ? 😂What a legend great tutorial!!
I dont go to work without them!!!!!Thanks for watching
For beginners like me I would like to see a close-up of the overlap of the metal and the placement of the screws.
Valid point!! Noted, Thank you for watching
@@firstnforemost7283 Thank you.
The main issue is not sealing the bottom of the 6x6. Even tho it’s treated the concrete will eat the wood away. You should be doing at least a couple coats of driveway sealer or something along those lines to have a barrier between the wood/concrete.
One more question. Do you recommend some type of moisture tape when attaching a lean to roof to the shed? I'll be using treated 4x4 post that will run along side the shed as close as i can get them. I am wondering about putting moisture construction tape in between the post and the shed? Also, would I be better off having a metal roof with just framed in roof or using OSB and putting shingles? On the other roof I recently built I used plywood and shingled the roof. I am wondering which is more cost effective? I'm also thinking just putting up a metal roof will cut down on the amount of time
Good detailed info.
Thank you sir for watching and subscribing!!!i just sent you a subscribe as well! thanks for the comment as well!!
i meant for watching lol i dont know if you subscribed!!!
👏 great job
thank you very much!!and super thanks for the comment!!!
Good job true plumb level and square oh and strong
Thank you very much for watching and especially the kind comment! Have a great day
Got to ask at the middle 6x6 post. Why does it look like only one of the 2x8's is bolted and not the otherside? That's my only question because I'm building one myself and your video is so far the best video to watch and learn
Really good video! I just hate that the metal ribs on the roof don't line up with the lean to roof.
Thank you for watching! That is the only thing i was unhappy woth as well!!. out of the 120k views we have so far you are the only one who mentioned this. i fought the homeowner to buy 1 more piece so i could do it and he just wouldnt buy it. the structure is temperary and je just wanted to save!!! Thanks for the comment!!!
Great quality videos 🔥
Thank you sir!!!
Glad you like them!
interesting good start except for placing the 6x6 pressure treated post in the ground with cement around it. So wrong, always dig to your frost line in area a hole for each post, then frame it up put mixed with water cement fill up to approx 4" or more above ground, set post on top of concrete forms with braces. Now less chance of rot on post, and if ever needed replacing easier to do. I do this also for my decks. a good builder would know this.
Honest question I just came up with as I never thought about. Rafter jumpers as I call you. How many where a cup by %. I know stupid question but I may consider it on my next dyi
How come the roof has no slope?
Step one: hire a construction crew.
Nice video, but why have an entire team, and use so much material just to build such a simple shed? To me 2 to 3 persons was enough to build this.
Great video! Thanks for letting us come along! Keep up the good work! 👍
thank you Rudy! make sure you check out our wedding and events venue build part 1 is up now!
Looks good, unfortunately that concrete is useless but not mixing it 1st and pouring into holes. Those post can be pulled straight out of it, I've seen happen several times. Another tip wrap the bottom of the post with tar paper and a staple gun it will prevent the concrete from sucking all moisture out of the wood making it rot prematurely. You can add a couple of screws sticking out some to get added strength from the post pulling out of the concrete as well.
Thank you for watching the video!!!!
I would spray the lower post with spray t a r.
It will never pass inspection in Canada you have to add 2. Pieces of 2x6 post against the wall to carry the load and four 1 inch thread rods with nuts between the 2x8 and wall
I love metal roofs.
on our wedding chapel series that just uploaded we installed a standing seam metal roof that we just shot a week ago. unfortunately the ridge vent wasnt delivered on the first order so itll be a couple weeks before that series continues!!! beautiful decks and stained glass windows will be installed next two episodes!!
Really helpful, thanks! I'm building a very similar lean-to right now and I picked up a few valuable tips. It's my first one and your explanations cleared up some questions I had. P.S. your crew really knows what they're doing! I wish I had them to help me!
good except never place post boards in ground with cement around it. see my message above. always set boards above ground level.
1:30 Are the 4x4s the only lumber that needs to be treated?
No, the 4x4s gotta be pressure treated, which means it's rated for ground contact. Everything should be borate treated though, for sure.
