    at @10:45 im confused. how are you straightening out the bow in the beam, wouldnt you just push the posts over since you havent set the concrete? asking because im about to make a lean to myself

    Can you show how you install the first and last joist, I meant the one on corners or both ledger ends

  • @RichBarschdorf
    @RichBarschdorf 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

    The bird mouth looks like it’s more than one third of the way. A crucial aspect to remember when cutting a birdsmouth is to ensure the structural integrity of the rafter. As a rule of thumb, never remove more than one-third of the depth of the rafter. Overcutting might compromise the strength and reliability of the rafter, leading to potential roofing problems in the future.

    Nice work on the video and quality looking work. What size was the lean to or did I miss that ? I know the video is 2yrs. old now but what would a job like that cost?

      No worries thanks for watching! If I'm not mistaken we spent about $2000 on materials and it was $1200 for labor. I think it is was 20x12 the posts and beam were at about 11 feet from the existing shed. I could be off by a little bit its been a while!

      Wow so cool that you built your own. When I made the ideas for the video my goal was that someone could actually build their own by the videos instructions. Even if it wasn't the same size it doesn't matter the concepts are the same. So cool! Do you have any pictures of yours that you could email us. I'd love to put it on the channel and make a video about it possibly! If you are interested in that please email photos of the lean-to to Firstnforemost2022@gmail.com . Thank you for watching!

    I just want something small to put my riding mower and push mower under, so it's not in the weather. Great video, but I think it's a bit overkill for what I need, lol. I have a brick exterior do you think one 2x6x10 would be good enough for the ledger on the brick, or should i go with a 2x8x10. Also instead of using 6x6 posts, could i use 4x4 or 4x6 to attach the roof? Just trying to see what a scaled down version would be.

    • @firstnforemost7283
      @firstnforemost7283 27 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yes sir absolutely on both of your choices. Especially, since you must want to park your mower under there. It doesn't have to be as wide as this one was. If you use 4x4's I would recommend some type of beam to post connector, to protect from uplift in a storm or high winds. If you use a 4x6, you can still notch the post as to put some bolts through it and into the beam. If you have any troubles with your build feel free to reach out and I'll do what I can to help! Thank you for watching

    • @TJsVette
      @TJsVette 27 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Awesome, I live in Florida so I plan to use hurricane ties to the ends and I planned on drilling straight through the 4x4s and using bolts to hold the 2x6 in place. Was going to start on this yesterday but it was so hot I wound up staying inside all day haha.

      yes, it's a bolt, not a lag screw. nut will tighten up with an impact driver; don't need to bother holding a wrench on the bolt head. Just out of curiosity, what did you think was happening?

    Is the ledger board against the metal treated or untreated?

    • @firstnforemost7283
      @firstnforemost7283 27 วันที่ผ่านมา

      On this build it is not treated. As long as it's not exposed to weather it is ok to use non treated lumber, unless you are putting it against concrete,masonry,or it's close to the ground! Thank you for watching.

    22ft 11 3/4 - 22ft 11 7/8 = 1/8 not a 16th🤷‍♂️

    • @firstnforemost7283
      @firstnforemost7283 27 วันที่ผ่านมา

      You have to move it 1/16 so that both sides are equal...if the difference is 1/8, you cannot move the other way an 1/8 because youll still be outta of square. I didn't speak clearly in the video. What ever your fldifference is you move it half of what measurements are so both sides are equal. That's why we moved it only a 1/16.

    • @firstnforemost7283
      @firstnforemost7283 27 วันที่ผ่านมา

      To pu it easier to understand if you add 1/16 to the first measurement, but subtract it from the second measurement. Both overall measurements will then be equal.! Thank you for watching

    • @stevenoe6395
      @stevenoe6395 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@user-mx3vf8gu2w ok I have never done a roof like that it just dint look like the marks were over the studs when he was marking them but may have just been the camera view but personally I would run a double top plate weather it needs it or not but I build so that stuff last as long as I'm allowed to make it last lol I over build everything I have seen walls saging because of people putting trusses in-between the studs with a single plate. Was a pain of a job the house was about 3 years old but inspectors in Ohio suck I have seen them require plastic over craft face insulation because it wasn't marked on each bat but we also have problems with people breaking into houses going thrue the siding then insulation then drywall because the builder just put celotex for decking and OSB around some windows it's a joke that it's able to be done like that!!!!!!!

    I’m pleased that there aren’t many comments/arguments about your method of setting the 6x6’s in dry concrete or using the bricks at the bottom of the hole. Here in East Texas there’s plenty of moisture in the soil year round (to set dry concrete) but always everyone argues about gravel or no gravel at the base of the post. I always have used about 6” of gravel or drainage rock and never have had a rot problem. The biggest issue you didn’t address was your reason for leaving the top of the concrete 6 inches below the surrounding soil. I would consider that to be the weakest link since it gives water a place to pool at the most critical spot.
