This my friends is training. Though I was never good enough fly, my training was at Fort Irwin, California, having mock battles against the OPFOR, which is basically those stationed at Fort Irwin. They act as the enemy, dressing in the uniforms of the enemy which for my Battalion was Soviet Uniforms. I believe that they dress in Arab uniforms now. I was stationed at Fort Stewart, Georgia, and they fly the whole Battalion over as if you were going to war. Once you land you're assigned the proper equipment and vehicles, you start prepping and training f about 2 weeks. Then you go up against the OPFOR. It's very intense training and "combat". My first time I was "killed" and they make you ride back to the post in a garbage truck as motivation so you don't do it again. I'm quite sure that these pilots had way more fun than we did, but the training is absolutely essential for all of us.

It is awesome to see a great documentary of the integration and training behind our Air Force and Allies.
Capturing the entire cadre of the war machine, intel, maintenance, munitions, fire and rescue really speaks to the true story of professionalism it takes to accomplish the mission.
I spent 3 years at Nellis AFB in the Bomb Dump maintaining, building, delivering, planning, and supporting all facets that go into delivering the explosive armaments employed during these Red Flag exercises, Air Warrior exercises, and the USAF Fighter Weapons School training.
I had the honor and pleasure of working with the best, most dedicated professionals found in any industry or enterprise. They include the men and women of the Air Force, Navy, Marines, and Army - plus several other nations.
I really don’t believe there’s another nation that trains it’s military and it’s allies harder and smarter than ours.

You have to watch "Mover Ruins Movies" where he dissects this video
    1) This is not Eglin, it is Mountain Home AFB in Idaho.
    2) They never send one guy to Red Flag, they send an entire squadron
    3) Most of this is shot with Stratton in the back seat of an F15E. The shots transform from an F15C with no tanks going east at FL250 into Miami Center (instead of west) and then somehow morphing into an F15E doing a low level, with that same F15E landing at Nellis.
    4) "Tractor", the Red Air commander (actually came talked to my ALS class in Tyndall AFB) is most certainly being filmed in the back seat of an F15E since the IMAX cameras were probably too big to fit in a Viper.
I could go on for days, so many things wrong with this video LOL.

I'm amazed at not only the production quality, but by the military technology in 2004 which was probably at least a few years old by the time this was filmed (battlefield/ situational awareness software, LCD screens, digital combat tracking, visualization, AWAC Displays/ Integration, simulation, etc.). I especially liked [and was previously unaware of] all the different training and jobs/ support roles/ exercises, over just simulated aviation combat/ dogfighting (I thought that was all the Red Flag Exercise entailed).

    • @HABITZER

greatest doc i watched lately .. remembering all the aspects of the military that go beyond personal records
the bigger picture is what matters - in striving to make it happen we become better that we imagined before
also the message about war is most important ..
id rather exercise the rest of my time than going into a short bloody useless war ..
politicians and civilians should understand no matter how ready and hot the military is - they dont actually want the combat
so make wise choices in life

I would not call it a true documentary, there's a lot of staged fighting going on there.
Notice when the Viper got behind the F-15 flight and the entire flight proceeded to try to evade the lone F-16 in formation??
Yeah, a bandit shows up on your 6, that formation is going to break up with one group going left and the other half going right.
Also F-15's tend to fly line abreast about 1-5 miles apart with their radars blasting.

Excellent cinematography - particularly in the first part when the planes were dog fighting. Although there were some maneuvers that in a real dog fight, a pilot would never do - like a barrel roll. Having said that, it was cool to watch.

    • @pogo1140

That has to be the best job in the world even with the very real dangers one would face. I nearly had my pilot's license at 16 and wanted to go Air Force. As a senior in high school I had been running, lifting weights, etc for preparation to go in. When I went to take my physical in the middle of the Vietnam war I failed it due to hearing and it ended my dream of being a fighter pilot. On top of that, my eyes went from 20/15 to needing glasses. Talk about disappointed! To this day it still gets to me sometimes.
