@@inigo137it's pretty much a blend of Taxi Driver and King of Comedy. A lot of the societal treatment of mental illness, deluded warrior for the people, decayed new York stuff is taxi driver. The mentally ill deranged bad comedian, seedy underbelly of show business stuff is king of comedy. I actually really like the point at the end. It’s something I need to remind myself of more. Most people making “cringy” & “obvious” statements about film or any other topic are just excited about a thing and trying to connect to others with it. Sure maybe there’s an element of wanting to present oneself as more knowledgeable and impressive than they actually are but that’s no crime nor is it something those of us are better at hiding it are innocent of. I think the best way to respond to someone saying something obvious like it’s a deep discovery is to be like “oh yeah I’ve heard of that, that’s so cool isn’t it?”. Why not do the thing that will leave both of you feeling better. Thank you for carrying this man.

If you think about it hard enough, Joker reallt is a sequel to Gladiator(2000). Both movies clearly share the same themes of jokes and gladiators and according to my google search Joaquin Phoenix is an actor in both movies. They are clearly the same movie.

No shade on Joker, which is a good film, but it really is the art film for people who have only watched summer blockbusters. Because of its comic book roots, all these people who'd never normally watch those artistic films suddenly got really into it and thought it was the greatest piece of art ever made, and that watching it made them true cinephiles.

As someone who really liked Joker. This was the most annoying part of when I tried to talk about the movie. (Especially Online).
Some Asshole had to jump in to claim that Joker was practically a remake of Taxi Driver and King of Comedy.
As if I haven't seen those movies.
Yes, Joker has stylistic similarities to those movies.
Tod Philips made no secret of the fact that Joker was inspired by Martin Scorsese film.
But Joker also has a lot of differences with those films.
But most important of all. Even if Joker has similarities to those movies. I don't care. Just let me talk about the movie with other like minded people.

To be fair, there are some things that you could argue in ways aviator influenced joker. Like the use of color and technique in how that color was applied, while sure even with king of comedy the uses of red blue and yellow are constant, but even in the aviator a lot of colors render as blue red or yellow throughout.
I think that it's not completely far fetched to say, while it was obviously way more influenced by the king of comedy, especially in story telling and both living with a mother we never see, and clearly mentally ill loners obsessed with a talk show host. I think that doesn't take away from the fact a lot of the same techniques were brought over as well
