      No, please don't tell me his books feel even longer than they are! I have read a couple of short(er) stories by him, and I likes them all. They were also all not "classical" Horror stories. I have also seen several films etc. based on stories of his, of those, some were "classical" horror. I still hope I'll be in the right head space to read another book of his one day, and I would like to read one of his more typical stories for once. And those are long!

    • @adashofbitter
      @adashofbitter 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +17

      that's not true at all... From memory, he got into a near marriage ending fight while drunk at the hotel and, reflecting on this, had the idea for the novel and decided to stay there until he had finished writing it. At least, it's something along those lines... Maybe he had a dream about his son being chased by a vacuum cleaner and that inspired a scene, though there's no such scene in the book, but it's not the inspiration for the novel.

    Honestly, I get that this is tongue-in-cheek, but forcing yourself take something utterly mundane and somehow find a way to make it horrifying is actually a pretty good way to make an original kind of horror.
    People have done ghosts, but it’s hard to think of many horror stories about a dog of all things, so you have to actively look for things scary about it, which can help make it feel more immersive and real, I think. Sorry if this was ramble-y.
