Just remember the rule of thumb when it comes to dealing with scropins, big claws and small tail usually means not deadly venomous. Small claw, big/thick tail deadly Boi. There are very few exceptions to this rule. Also remember if it's your first time meeting any wild species, resist the urge to pick up or pet it. This is for both yours and it's safety.

I saw this thing twice in the desert at night.
When I was 12 I cought one and kept it as a pet. Though my mom did some research and found out how venomous it is and made me release it . Apparently she didn't do enough research.

Idk if this still applies but typically scorpions with big claws have less potent venom due to having strong claws to keep prey still, where smaller claws means their venom is potent enough to where they don't need strong claws to hold them in place.

Correct me if i’m wrong but I believe a good rule of thumb with scorpions is small claws = big venom, large claws = small venom, obviously don’t go around trying to test it but if i remember correctly it’s a quick way to determine how dangerous a scorpion is. If they have a lot of venom they usually don’t need large pinchers as defence, while less potent venom needs an additional defense stat with the large claws. Again, anyone who is informed please let me know if I’m wrong, don’t want to spread misinformation!

Middle eastern and spent my childhood growing up in the Middle East before coming to the US. And we would see these all the time while playing outside. It was very scary because there were times we didn’t see it until it was almost about to bite us or climbed on us.

I recall hearing that smaller scorpions are more venomous than bigger ones when I was a kid, I wonder if that’s actually true.
Smaller creatures in general tend to have stronger poison or venom. They have venom to compensate for their weak physical strength. This is a common trend in scorpions too. It’s not always the case, but certainly a good indicator.

Rule of thumb: The smaller their pincers, the more potent their venom.
Actually better rule of thumb, as someone who lives in an area with a highly venomous scorpion who has thick claws:
See a scorpion get to a high ground and keep an eye on it.

We caught a few in Kuwait…well they were solid black scorpions anyway
When I lived in Arabia, we used to go camping at a company owned compound on the Red Sea on weekends. Somebody brought one of these scorpions from there back to Tabuk in a soda bottle. Gotta wonder how he got it in the bottle. Anyway, the word on the street amongst the expats was that there were two scorpions in Arabia. The black one would kill you and the yellow one did not. We used to sleep on little foam mats on the ground when we camped at the beach.
