Whilst taking a winter training dive class I once jumped in wearing full gear only to discover I had not closed my drysuit zipper.
Yeah, turns out drysuits make pretty poor wetsuits!

End of the dive. My sister in drysuit with her try scuba client. On the surface already, swimming back to bank. Water was not too deep. 3 - 4 meters. Her client accidentaly loose a weightbelt. To put it at the right position and tighten it propperly again at the end of the dive was not worth the effort. Sister took the weightbelt and headed back to shore. Even with BCD fully inflated she had to kick hard to stay on the surface. So she asked her client to close drysuit valve so she could use drysuit buoyancy for staying on the surface easily. Client was trying hard to close the valve. So hard, that he unscrewed valve completely. Try to gues what happened next. My sister went down :D It was just few metrs back to land so she walked on the bottom :D But the funniest part was just about to come. When walking out of the water, all water in her drysuit moved to her legs. It was almost impossible to walk :D She looked like a Michelin :D

As a season diver that helps dive instructors, while you're waiting to assist the dive instructor with his class don't fall asleep on the bottom of the pool.

    "Don't touch anything"
    - My dive instructor, who then on my second open water dive plucks this giant sea cucumber off the bottom and hands it to me, then shows me which end is its mouth and which end is its butt
Damn he was a good teacher. I kept losing control of my ascents at the end of my dives so we spent a dive (I had to do 6 because I did drysuit together with my open water) doing stepped ascents until I could get it down.

I did that on my 2nd pool dive back during my Open Water cert. class. Fortunately I have a Cressi Supernova dry snorkel, so I heard a "click" and then couldn't draw any air, rather than sucking a mouthful of water. I realized what was wrong and switched to my regulator underwater, and no one else saw what I'd done.

Indeed it was, I'm really happy I survived that mistake, it could have gone very badly. It reinforced the importance of BWRAF, at the surface I do part of it in reverse. Inflate BCD, Hand Weights to support, then remove kit. I dive from our 11.5' dinghy, and live aboard our 37' sailboat.

I’m still a rookie diver and learning quickly by my own mistakes..
One thing I did last week, that I wasn’t aware of, was to deflate my bcd gradually around 10 m. I didn’t deflate till I was ascending quickly from 7m to 3 in about twenty seconds flat, I didn’t know to use the dump valve along my waist where most the air was trapped!
Quite a rookie move but I’m learning all of the time.

I guess this one confuses me. I've NEVER travelled with my weight belt. Why lug around that extra weight when I've never been to a dive center that didn't have one for you at your destination. Of course I've never bought a regulator or bcd either. Rent them. Unless you live by the ocean and dive several times a year it makes no sense to buy these things. Especially if you have to travel by air to your destinations.

Yea... I stopped wearing a snorkel after like my 5th dive. Also, just as a good laugh for you, I was having a good conversation and didn't notice I hooked my gear up to an OXYGEN tank thinking it was a NITROX tank. As I was doing my last round checks, keep in mind it is now a bit harder to see the labeling as my BCD is on the tank, I couldn't understand why my air was so low. Breathing it a few time and wondering why everything just seemed.. off... When I was disconnecting the gear I then noticed it was an oxygen tank and we all had a good laugh saying I was about to have a very "good" dive.

I broke my ankle last week. It was a rock entry, and a small shelf juts out just under water. High tide it's no problem, low tide and it's a risk. The tide was half way and I kept thinking this looks too shallow, shouldn't be getting here...... So what do I do? I jump in anyway and land on the shelf with heavy kit on my back. I've got the video up on my channel.

Not checking air. Not knowing correct signs for indicating air remaining - a thumbs up doesn't mean you're ok for air. Being preoccupied with a camera or similar and not watching depth. I had the privilege! of going after a diver who despite indications to put air in his BCD slowly disappeared from sight into the blue whilst still fiddling with his camera.

In the mask on forehead section you say splashing and shouting is a sign of distress. I thought that was a myth and drowning people cannot splash or shout.

why it's so important to make sure you are 'buddied-up' - you check and look out for each other. I well recall being called-out by my OW instructor (half my age) for all the things not done well or plain overlooked but, hey, you get over it and you get familiar with the basics. Once you are down there, probably knees in the sand to start with, you can relax and think things through. Before you know it you are one of the crew and feeling great about the (undersea) world!

I'm sorry, but the demonstrations offered by Simply Scuba do not impress me in the slightest, sadly, neither does the presenter.
